- ✦ CLAN OF THE BROKEN NIGHT !!
xxxx( vinson ✦ archive ✦ last post )
And tonight marked the eve of a clan turned charity.
A clan sympathetic to the whims, whines and wails of every cat that crossed their paths. First disease-ridden ones, then ghosts spewing ancient mysteries and now lunatics spinning half-cocked tales about earless cats. It was ridiculous. Weakness.
But patience.
Crowcrawl tapped his claws against the cool pavement, disguising a thin smile. Power was not something given like pity along a darkened alley. It was earned, entrusted and… exclusive. And regardless, every situation offered an opportunity. Wielded appropriately, it was pivotal. Game-changing.
Now that his dear leader had offered the patrol’s assistance, the fools would forever be those holding grudges. Those blinded by pettiness and a lack of foresight. And he did not intend to be one of them. Far be it from him.
Her soft curls fluttered in the breeze as she dipped her head, a graceful arch, low and gracious.
“... yes, yes. I think so.” Gold eyes flickered, flitting to each of the patrol, a small smile gracing her muzzle. Tension eased from her shoulders, slipping like rain from rooftops. “I can’t thank you enough. I understand that a group like this must be incredibly busy and I wouldn’t ask unless━”
“Do you have any ideas as to where this… friend of yours may be?” He scraped a lazy claw along the pavement, tracing an idle circle. “It would help with the process.”
Her smile faltered, dwindling. “I… well━ I’m not too sure. I was hoping…”
He concealed a grimace.
Well, this was sheer heaven. No starting point, no ideas, no nothing. Just a myriad of possibilities laced with blind hope. A foolish wish slipping further and further with every passing second.
Carrionstar cleared his throat. “Furzetuft, where did you last see this friend? We could start there, perhaps.”
A logical step forward, but a pointless one on behalf of a spineless, weak-willed leader. It was there ━ the signs, all so clear. Her dimming gaze, the halting pauses and the scuff of her paw against the crevices of the pavement. She had no idea. Absolutely none.
The patrol was offering help to a lost cause.
“Listen,” he lifted his chin, muzzle twisting in the vague vestiges of some sympathy, “if you have no ideas at all, then perhaps━”
“Wait.” A softer voice, gentle, with a swaying cadence. Hiddenpine flicked a tail, gesturing towards the dumpster haphazardly stuffed behind the patrol. “I noticed these… symbols around the city. Along the alley, the road and… now here. A long shot, but… do they mean anything to you?”
“Oh!” Furzetuft’s eyes brightened, colors flooding back into gaze. “My friend… he likes puzzles. Riddles, hidden messages, symbols…” Her brows furrowed as she traced the symbol, the mess of scrawling scribbles scoring the side of the dumpster, a vague star-like sign crossed with a spiral. “... yes, yes! I know… I know where he is!”
Her grin was blinding.
“I should go.” She spun around, a soft chuckle streaming from her. “Thank you, thank you so much. I need to go, but here━ a token of my gratitude.” (+50 stardust, +1 common edit, +1 dock, +1 stick, +1 thyme)
Her jaws eased around a small bundle twined around her side, offering it to Hiddenpine. Without another word, she was off, dashing through alleyways, a mere fleeting shadow in the night.
