Not Quite Dogs

You enter the adoption shelter, looking around with interest at the large offering of dogs that the owner has. The tags are all written in some language you can't quite place, and the dogs themselves seem a little .. odd. The owner is there, hovering by the register, a too-sharp-smile fixed on his face, with too-sharp-teeth flashing at you. You can tell he's eager, but for what you don't really want to know.

You smile back hesitantly, watching as his own expression widens in response. Holding back a shiver, you turn back to the kennels, checking out each dog within. There's a wide variety here, ranging from massive beasts to strange little things to - is that an African Wild Dog? No. You shake your head, it looked similar at first but it couldn't possibly be one.

As you continue your wanderings, you realize something with a start. These creatures? They're not quite dogs.

WIP! They're basically going to be my take on a bunch of dog-like cryptids, feel free to suggest any that aren't on the list!

Adopting | OPEN

The shopkeeper stretches at his desk, watching as you approach with your questions. He listens as you inquire about the adoption process and nods along at the end. "So basically you and all the other applicants will throw your hat into the ring for a dog, and then I'll sort through all the forms to see who I think is the best fit. There's no real limit on how many you can apply for at once, and I suppose as long as you have the space for them, there's no real limit to how many you can adopt." He pulls what looks like a store catalogue over. "Each dog comes with a free collar - or harness - something to hold their tags. I'll provide the current proof of vaccination and a name tag, but you'll need to register them with your town afterwards. You can change their accessories all you want after they're yours, just don't change the dog itself." He winks but you stare, wondering how one could go about changing a dog. "Oh, and if you find you can't handle any of my dogs, return them here, okay? Don't hand them off on an unsuspecting stranger."

The Nursery | CURRENTLY CLOSED

You noticed all the dogs here are fully grown and, curious, ask the shopkeeper if he has any puppies for sale. "Puppies?" He laughs. It's a weird laugh. You don't know how to feel about it, let alone respond. "Eh, yeah, every now and then I'll pick up one of those little rascals. You'd be surprised how exceedingly uncommon it is to find any of these dogs before they're fully grown." You think to yourself that you wouldn't exactly call any of his dogs common in the first place, but don't comment. He's giving you a weird look. You wonder if he can read your mind, or if you're just that obvious. "Look, I'll put up a sign when I have any, but as of right now I don't have the proper set up to handle puppies." His voice is still friendly, but you get the distinct feeling that you're being dismissed. You thank him and hurry away.

The Store | VISIT

Outside of the dogs, you notice a section by the register that has a collection of odd items. Glancing around, you don't immediately spot the shopkeeper to ask him about them, and so go over to check out the shelves yourself. You reach out to grab a bottle, wanting to get a better look at the label, but the shopkeeper materializes at your elbow and slaps your wrist. "Ey - those aren't for sale. Yet. Wait until I can figure out how to make it safe for mortals to handle." You back up, spooked, and apologize, but he already lost interest in you and is distracted with paperwork at his desk. Did he just call you a mortal? Was that some sort of power play? Isn't he one as well? Unnerved, you go back to the dogs.

Description: a pack creature from the Sahara Desert, it is reported to have webbed paws and reddish-skin. Possibly just a strange looking African Wild Dog, rumor has it they use pheromones when hunting to cause a disruption

Lifespan: 8-12 years in the wild, 14-16 years in captivity
Weight: 40-55 lbs (18-25 kg), a "medium" dog
Height: 25-27 in (63.5-68.5 cm) at the shoulder

Andean Wolf | "Hagenbeck's Mountain Dog"

Description: a wolf-like creature from the Andes Mountains, its skull is unusually large and it boasts a magnificent mane. Possibly a mountain variation of the maned wolf? If so, it's rather elusive, only three having been "caught"

Lifespan: 10-12 years in the wild, 15-20 years in captivity
Weight: 120-135 lbs (54.5-61 kg), an "extra large" dog
Height: 39-41 in (99-104 cm) at the shoulder

Axehandle Hound

Description: small but fearsome, they resemble the shape of an axe with short, stubby, little legs. They prey upon the handles of unattended axes from lumberjack camps, often hoarding the handles away to be eaten later

Weight: 17-19 lbs (7.5-8.5 kg), a "small" dog
Height: 14-15 in (35.5-38 cm) at the shoulder

Church Grim

Description: A large, dark dog, with glowing red eyes, Church Grim protect their graveyards against any who would enter with malicious intent - supernatural or not. They often seem like they're judging the souls of those who pass by

Weight: 75-90 lbs (34-40.8 kg), a "large" dog
Height: 30-34 in (76.2-86.4 cm) at the shoulder

Grey Dhole | "Myanmar Gray Wild Dog"

Description: dog-ish in appearance, this creature is reported to be found primarily in Myanmar. It's characterized by its short, grey fur, darker muzzle, rounded ears, and thin tail. It comes in both a large and small variation but the shelter seems to only have one size. The shopkeeper won't specify which

Weight: 24-54 lbs (11-24.5 kg), a "medium" dog?? This doesn't help you tell which size variation he has as much as you hoped, as the majority of the ones he has are 30-44 lbs (13.5-20 kg)

Jiao

Description: a dog-like creature found in 玉山, it's characterized by its leopard-spotted coat, ox-like horns, and signature bark. To see one is representative of tranquility/peace

Weight: 75-85 lbs (34-38.5 kg), a "large" dog
Height: 24-26 in (61-66 cm) at the shoulder

Salawa | "Sha"

Description: wandering the deserts is this strange beast, with its sloped snout, triangular ears, and forked tail. Associated with the god Set(h), it's often noted as reddish or pure black, but the shopkeeper seems to have a rather broad definition of the color

An orange whirlwind of fur rushes past you and quickly plops themselves down on the ground behind a shabby
makeshift booth. In their mouth is a jar of fireflies that they gently put down on the ground beside them before
speaking.

"Oh man I hope you weren't waiting long for me! I'm Mothpaw and I run this little exchange here. If you got
Fireflies I got goodies for you to choose from!" He grins from ear to ear, his tail swishing behind him as he waves

The return of the False Angels has seen them appear as far north in our hemisphere as the Arctic Circle, with the Angels who appear in the north having a heavier build like a Clydesdale, while the more southern build resembles that of a Hanoverian. The Clydesdale build stops appearing around Wyoming, while the southern Hanoverian build extends all the way down into the Caribbean. The northern build is sometimes called the Seraphim, while the southern build is called Cherubim.
False Angels are slightly larger than the aforementioned breeds, with the Seraphims reaching sizes up to 18hh all the way up to 21hh, and Cherubim reaching sizes up to 16hh to 18hh. Both genus also weigh a lot more than the average Clydesdale or Hanoverian.
False Angels are extraordinary and magical creatures of legend that can communicate with their humans telepathically. They often speak in riddles or extremely intelligent conversation with large and impressive vocabularies, and have hidden knowledge and insight about many things that we consider to be unexplainable.
In addition to being able to control light, some False Angels have even greater and higher powers, such as the ability to control elements, telekinesis, or other animals, including humans, with their minds, though these are much rarer. It takes a very strong and sound will to be able to keep your mind straight around these creatures, but the reward of having one of these Angels on your side often excuses the potential risk of falling victim to their mind tricks.
All Angels are able to be somewhat tempered down by the use of a magical halter that appears after an ownership deal or understanding is struck. Pact magic is often the easiest way to tame one of these Angels, just have a soul to pay.

A long time ago, dating all the way back to around 600 BCE, a strange pegasus began to show up on pottery and within the art and written record stretching from ancient Rome all the way to Mesopotamia, in present day Turkey. The pegasus in question had not one but two sets of wings, and appeared alongside many of their early depictions of gods and monsters. Unfortunately, very few pieces of information about this creature survived until the present day, leaving us with only bits and pieces of lore and a mystery that has lasted for hundreds of years, ever since the first piece of pottery with them on it was discovered in Iran around 1918.
These creatures were depicted as something to be in awe of and perhaps be in fear of; the few pieces of information we were able to draw from papyrus scrolls in Egypt seems to state to that the False Angels were no friend to mankind but harbingers of death, doom, and important losses. They seem to appear around any massive natural disaster and loss of life, they haunt famines, floods, and were even on some depictions of Pompeii shortly before the Vesuvius incident, hovering around the volcano and beating its massive wings, shooting what seemed to beams of light with every flap. The Egyptian scrolls also state this, once translated:

These fickle and vain creatures have the power to control light. They could use it for the greater good but instead they prefer to use it to make themselves look as ethereal as possible, basking in the adoration of those who gaze upon them.
They claim their four wings are a celestial gift given to them to reward their selflessness and kindness, what happened to these traits nobody knows as a kind four wing pegasus is a rare thing indeed.

The additional wings give them increased agility and speed in the air, human legend is that they were gifted the wings to make them the war horses of the gods, contrary to the explanation given by the pegasi themselves.
Like most gods and monsters, over time, less and less sightings were recorded and the belief faltered, and then faded entirely. The False Angels disappeared completely and suddenly out of the historical record around AD 500. This summary is all that we knew about these mysterious and ethereal creatures, until present day…

PRESENT DAY
A dark summoning has taken place, by parties unknown. The False Angels have now flooded the skies in North and South America, appearing once more to humans to show their glory and power. These Angels look down on us humans from afar, but some people have managed to coax them into their stables by showering them with gifts, pleasantries, and adoration. Or, by making some sort of dastardly deal in the dark with the Angel. As long as they are given a place of pride in the stable and given a lot of love and attention, they seem to want to stay around those that worship them. The bravest (and/or the dumbest) equestrians who have managed to accomplish ownership are also able to ride their Angels through the skies and on foot.
So, the question is… Are you brave enough to take the reins?

The wings of the Angels usually appear to be modeled after the color of wings of many recognizable birds, but can also be matching with the base coat and markings of the equine’s coat, or pure white.
There are some markings that only Seraphim or Cherubim can sport; creating some diversity between both genus.
The eye color can be any color under the sun, with heterochromia being observed more rarely.
Each Angel starts with six breeding spots, but can unlock two more for a total of eight via competitions and upgrading your Angel to Archangel status.
Free False Angel adopts may be gifted or traded, but not be sold.
Imported False Angels can be sold, but only for what they were originally bought for.
False Angels do not follow most rules imposed on them by biology and are able to breed with each other regardless of gender and genus. False Angels are intelligent enough to have their own sense of self and gender, you may chose any gender and orientation you would like under the sun for them!
If a Cherubim and Seraphim breed, it will be a 50/50 chance if it's a Cherub or Seraphim.
While realistic equine genetics are the foundation of the breed, we are not very concerned with keeping coat colors and markings 100% realistic. For example, the silver dilution can also appear on a chestnut, not just blacks or bays. Flaxen may appear outside of chestnuts, a horse may sport chimerism and somatic. There are many other examples, so if you have questions about a coat being possible please DM me or ask in the Discord! Artists have the freedom to choose if they want to keep things realistic or be wild and free, so some artists may do unnatural markings, some may not. If you're wanting something a little unusual and aren't certain if the artist is up for it, always ask first! <3

Oasis Islands Barbs are home to the desert, but not just any part of it a single large oasis holds almost the entire population. They stand at anywhere from 13.3 to 15 hands sometimes reaching 16 hands, their coats can be seen in almost any color but solids are more common. Their tongue also much like a giraffe has grown to be a dark purple-ish black in color to keep from getting their tongue getting burnt. While the horses have adapted to being able to survive for days on end with out food or water. Though they can go a nearly a month with out eating they can only go about Six days without water. Twin rates are super low with in the breed and often times Stud Vials are collect from the studs to be used at a later date to produce offspring.
It is seen though that they do very well in a variety of riding disciplines, but have been seen to excel in liberty, calf cutting, and hunter jumper!

Their attitudes are hot and heavy often times constantly getting in trouble!

Due to the small numbers of OIB's most owners take part in the breeding program,
through this vials of semen can be collected from stallions to be used at a later date,
and only takes up half a breeding slot! This means that you get 2 vials per slot transferred to semen vials!
But it costs 200 coins per vial!

Breeding Limits
At this point in time due to the lack of OIB's population each horse
has a limited number of times they can breed, and this is manged by the breeding program!
Mares can breed 6 (slots) times in their life time and stallions can breed 8 (slots) times in their life time!

Average Foal Birth rates
OIB's are seen to have usually only one foal but have a 10% chance at twins,
and a 7% chance at chimera or somatic!

There are 5 ways to attain a Oasis Island Barbs so lets look over them.
Adoption - This is where artists will make free adopts where you will have to answer a prompt or just simply enter a raffle for them!
Randomized Rarity tickets - This is when you can buy a ticket that generates 3 Random coats of the listed rarity on the ticket and you may pick one to redeem with an artist, you can get tickets VIA discord Raffles, buying one using C$ or Coins in our shop!
Personal Custom - This is when you can pay an artist Via the correct channels and have a custom made you get to pick colors and patterns!
Breeding - Another way is Via breedings, you may use your own or someone else's, Barbs in a breeding to receive a foal!
Auction - Artist may host auctions where you can bid with C$ or Coins to buy the Barb.

These gentle gaints are the last breed you would probably expect to see on an island like this. They have honestly found some of the most intresting and impressive ways to survive. These guys tend to stick to the little forest there is on the island but they will go to the grasslands when needed. they avoid the ocean and desert in the wild. they have survied so well by eating roots, bark, pine cones, and acorns. The roots provide them with enough water to let them go days if not weeks before they really need to seek out a source of water. These guys are great in driving, eventing, sled racing, and strong pooling. i'm sure you can train them to do more but keep in mind speed is not their strong suit

oasis mustangs hooves can be heard thundering through the hilly grasslands and marshes of the island. they can sometimes be seen checking out the sandy beaches but we are unsure as to why. The mustangs stand anywhere from 13 hands to 15.5. They are hot and smart, definitely looking to test your skills and patience. they tend to avoid the barb herds, but when they do cross paths they will tend to put on a show. mostly a lot of smack talk and kicking around. there has been no cases of any threats to each other though. We are still working to learn more about this breed as well. The few that have been tamed seem to do great in western discipline such as western pleasure, barrel racing, and poll bending. they are not limited to western as they can make for great jumpers, eventing, and even dressage.

European QUARTER Horse

European Quarter Horses (EQH) are distinct from their American brethren. They have been mixed with traditional eventing breeds such as the Irish Sport Horse, Selle Francais and Thoroughbred to create a versatile horse that can still lope with speed and agility but has the conformation required for English style riding such as eventing. It is more collected then its ancestors, with a thicker neck and stronger legs but had still maintained the traditional head and cheek shape and rump. They stand between 14.3hh to 17hh.

To compliment their versatility a saddle and bridle inspired by bareback and equitation tack was created. It has the comfort of a western saddle but the connection to the horse provided by English tack. You will only ever see them ridden bitless or in a snaffle bit as they are exceptionally responsive so do not require harsh bits.

This ARPG has two different text ciphers,
both of which are Vigenere Ciphers.
They are titled as if they are the writing scripts
of two separate species.
There is no actual "language" being used,
and all potential religious content is
purely fictitious in nature.

Content Warning: Bugs, Multiple Limbs, Multiple Eyes
More direct Content Warning was suggested by Castiiian!

This ARPG has lots of body horror,
though nothing against CS rules.

It is heavily implied that UMBRYX work similarly to
insect colonies, specifically bees and wasps.
Viewer discretion is advised,
please keep the bug-related themes brought up
from time to time in mind. If you have a phobia of bugs,
they are mentioned frequently,
so this may not be the species for you.

Species lines are by Error
All main post art is hand-drawn by LemoWuff using art-style mimicry often found in Animation Studios.

Thoren Steeds

This unit of species more closely resembles the horse but shares traits with its cousin the moose. They live deep in the forest where they feed on leaves, grass and berries. Their average life span is 50-60 years with foals maturing at 8 years old.

They travel in herds led by two males as they graze over large areas and are not agile enough to be guarded by a single stallion. The two males are usually siblings and will shed their horns at different times to ensure the herd is protected. They will both breed with the mare, and mares will usually have twins. Although they are not agile they are exceptionally strong and can deliver bone snapping kicks. Stallions will chew each others tails to keep them short to prevent them being used against them when defending the herd.
Foals are born spritely and fast but as they grow and mature they slow.

Hunted to near extinction due to the damage they cause, only a few herds are known in the wild. They are very hard to tame, but once tamed the options are limitless at what they can do.

These gaints are limitless in there color and markings. some colors may be harder to come by then others but they are not limited. the mailes tend to have a little more hair on their chest then the females.

genral traits and living in the wild
they are stand 16-22 hands at the shoulder when fully grown. males tend to be taller then mares.
stallions have 3 main horn types but there can be mutaions
males will use there horns to challange each other for mares and teratory. they will also use them to push tree and bushes out of the way.
mares will normal have two foals. the foals will stay by the mother side for at lest the first 8 months of their life. the colts will start getting there horn nubs at a year old. the first 6 month of the horns coming threw makes there head tender and itchy.

mares tend to be more stand offish and mean when they have foals. when they do not have one they are kinder and more willing to be curiouse and check things and people out.

stallions will let out long bellows to let other stallions know were there teratory is.

their diet consist of leaves tree branches grass hay and cat tails. they also love lake weeds. they will also eat oats and grain in captivity.

as a foal not all there color or marking may show threw till they are an adult

in captivity
good luck taming these big creatures. it takes a lot of will power and pacents. these are not an animal you really want to use force and shout at. it will work them up and make them agreessive.

once they are tames they will protect there owner as if they were one of there herd. they are very loyal animals.

there antlers are harvested and used in many different ways and sell for high money since they are hard to come by.

owners like to have little contest to see if they can get there thrones tail the longest since they do not really need to chew them off in captivity.

there are still poachers that believe the thrones should not be saved and persevered. they just see them as super destructive and as a pay check since the antler sell for so much and there pelts even more.

Appearance: Long limbed, sleek dragons with veins seeming to be filled with lightning, they often feature crests or feathers, and embody impulse, freedom, and power. Often, they race lightning, seeming to flicker between dimensions.

either Irish Shepherds or Atlantic Pastorals, I'm leaning towards Irish Shepherds though

a medium sized, long and thick coated dog of sturdy but athletic structure. taking roots from pastoral breeds like german shepherds and border collies and some mild influence from gun dogs like the flat coated retriever. [breed name] is a popular choice for protecting and shepherding livestock along the coastal landscape where the winds are cold and harsh. in the modern age, these dogs fit well with most sports or farm homes.

Welcome to the Whelping Box for Pompeii Grehounds! here you will find all litters ever bred as well as rules for breeding your dogs!
So how does it work?
First you must wait for an artist to post an openning for a breeding! Artists can open either a raffle breeding (a few breedings slots will be raffled off) or chosen breedings (artists will pick which breedings they want to do).
Next, you'll copy paste a form down below and fill it out. make sure all the information you enter is correct before you submit your form!

You can either enter into a split breeding (a breeding between one of your dogs and one of someone else's dogs) or a solo breeding (a breeding between two of your own dogs). You must have permission from the other owner before entering into a split breeding.
Please be patient while the artist works on your pups! We are real people who often have jobs or other irl obligations! While your pups will come in a timely manner, please understand that they will not be immediate. :3

The minimum litter size for split breedings is two pups, the maximum is 4
The minimum litter size for solo breedings is one pup, the maximum is 4

Some genetics are lethal when combined! While we don't do stillborns or empty boxes, pups who are born with lethal gene combos will be infertile/sterile and will remain pups permanently. These perma-pups will not be elligable for sports or breeding.
Lethal genetic combos are as follows:
- two copies of the hairless gene
- two copies of he bobtail gene
- two copies of the merle gene*
*double merle isn't always lethal and can result in normal pups or pups with blindness, eye deformaties, and/or deafness

Getting started, and how to play.
To start, you dont need to do very much. You simply need to fill out
a form, which will help choose your Starter, or Founding Dragon.

All items are only useable in the Guardians of Galvon adoptable species and are not actual CS items or accessories.

This is going to be a lot lol, please read it though.

I had a idea which ended up turning into this, I know the lines aren't the best, but hopefully the ideas I have for them will make up for it.
I'm thinking of sort of like a idea for an adoptable species, where once you get one of them, (starters [same as founders] will be available) you will be able to explore and adventure with them, fighting against a evil that has begun to invade Galvon. You can either fight to save the world of Galvon, or join the evil and fight against it. There are also teams, depending on what team you choose to join your Dragons will get various boosts when they explore/fight.
The teams for those who are trying to save the world of Galvon are fire, water, air, and earth. The teams for evil are poison, darkness/shadow, death, and bone.

There would be different markings and colors, with each different one having specific rarities. Your dragons also have stats which determine what happens when they explore/battle, those being strength, agility, speed, and defense. Again, these can be increased temporarily (as long as your in the team still) by what team you join.

I'm not really sure how much time I will have that I want to spend working on this however, but I'll try to work on this when I can.

Anyways, if you are interested or have a question then please reply or like I guess? If you also have some ideas for this too that would be nice. I'll be posting examples of the dragons soon as well.

Not to be mistaken for the order Siluriformes, these catfish are a semi-aquatic species and a blend between fish and felines. With the front half resembling that of a domestic cat, and the back half trailing into the fins and tail of a fish, these catfish are an evolutionary mystery!

Catfish are sometimes referred to as mer, a nickname derived from their archaic name mercat. Newborns are commonly called kits or fries, and a group of catfish is called a shoal! Fries are usually born above water, since their gills aren’t fully developed yet. By the time they’re four weeks old, they’re able to begin swimming! Catfish are graceful swimmers, clumsy walkers, and their fur and scales can be any color under the sun.

Catfish is a casual closed species where I’ll occasionally post adoptable catfish designs just for fun, whenever I get a burst of inspiration! They'll be similar to my previous adopts, but they will be up for adoption via raffles, FCFS (first-come-first-serve), or the occasional paid adopt.

In the future, I'm planning an MYO event where you can design your own catfish within the species guidelines, and potentially breedings, where I would design babies for two catfish parents! I'm not planning any events or activities, but who knows what the future holds.

Pixin Ponies are palm-sized equines that love to eat flower
petals and raid beehives for their honey. Some have a symbiotic
relationship with bees by bringing them the center of flowers in
exchange for honey (all the petals eaten of course). Others are
in multi-generational wars with hives and are the bane of bee
farmers. Pixin are also a constant issue for fruit farmers, they
will flit up to orchards and bushes and take small bites out of
fruit or eat blossoms before they have the chance to become
full-blown fruits. Farmers combat the equine-issue by encouraging
wolf bats to roost on their farms as their favourite prey is Pixin.
Much like birds of the same size Pixin have to avoid predation from
many species. They can be kept in large aviaries with butterflies,
birds, and other Pixin. They thrive in large flocks and are known
to mob people who have wronged them. They have the ability to
use minor magics so it is best to not make an enemy of them.
They enjoy the salt in tears and sweat so kaleidoscopes are often
found near funeral homes and sporting events in the wild. Most
can be diverted with salt licks or saline solution dispensers. They
can be a nuisance but with the right precautions they can be fun
garden visitors and even companions.

- No limit on owning Galingales
- Can only win one Galingale within 24 hours of each other. There is an exception to win 2 striders with a 48 hour cooldown.
- Storage Pages are required in order to adopt.
- Ask for permission using Galingale Striders for anything offsite.
- You must ask other Owners to use their Galingales for anything.
- Galingales can not change sexes and must be listed as Male or Female, unless they carry the Hermaphrodite mutation. But are allowed to be homosexual or transgender for role playing.
