Crested Kirins--

Postby Dia. » Sun Nov 22, 2015 7:15 pm

Rules--
    • Do not create your own Kirin
    • Do not claim species/art as your own
    • Do not take a Kirin that doesn't belong to you
    • Do not edit the original reference
    • Do not resell/gift/readopt. Return unwanted Kirins to Dia.
    • There is no adoption limit; You may win one per day.
    • Do not ask to be staff; We will announce when applications open
    • Do not pester/complain/be difficult
    • If taken offsite, link to this thread
    • Do not lie about the quantity of points your Kirin has accumulated

How to Adopt--
Look through the thumbnails. If it is available, 'adopt me' will be written on the image. Go to its page and verify that it is open for forms, fill out the form, and post it. Make sure to follow the rules for posting that are on the thread.

Points--
Affection Points are collected in the point bank. They are gathered by creating or buying different forms of art for your Kirins. They are required to be able to gain perks, such as breeding. Affection Points are Kirin-specific, not owner-specific.
Brownie points are also collected in the point bank, but they are for the owners, not the Kirins. They are gathered by earning honorable mentions, participating in events, by doing good deeds, and other methods. Brownie points may be saved to redeem perks such as semi-customs. Or, you may give your Kirins your Brownie Points. Brownie points are non-transferable, meaning you can't gift them to your friend.

Gift Lines--

Stamps/Banners--

Crested Kirins--

Postby Dia. » Sun Nov 22, 2015 7:16 pm

Lore--
The Kirin diety, created the foundation for the species through his gaze. It is said that he opened his eyes to peer at something, such as a small creature, and that creature became a Kirin. This is where the wide variety of colors and patterns in the species come from, as the founding Kirins were once fish, felines, canines, flowers, and other plant and animal life.

Physical Information--
Crested Kirins are not large. They commonly range from the size of a medium to large dog. They are agile creatures with a lot of strength disguised in their lean bodies and stout legs. Kirins have long antlers that curve down and around their ears. Their antlers are used for nothing other than show. It is common for them to lodge "treasures" of sorts into the nooks in their antlers such as leaves, flowers, stones, and other cool objects. Fluffy long hairs stand up along their backs from their face to nearly the end of their tail. When scared or angry, this hair stands on end. Otherwise, it remains in a pretty neutral arrangement. Kirins' eyes are nearly always closed. Their gaze, however, is an extremely important tool for bonding and socialization. Because of their voluntary blindness, Kirins explore and know the world around them thanks to their other heightened senses. There is no sexual dimorphism as Crested Kirins do not have a specific gender. Some have a preference to how they should be regarded. Any two bonded Kirins can reproduce. When they gaze into each others' eyes, they are able to create offspring that is a combination of both parents. Usually, only a single Kirin is created and twins are rare.

Kirins can be any color provided that they are not super saturated, neon colors. However, natural designs with bright accents are acceptable. There also are no Kirins with distinct scenery on them. This means that there are no deliberate trees or houses.

Like horses have salt or mineral blocks, Crested Kirins lick or chew precious materials like gemstones or metals. Some Kirins have a variation in their genetic make-up that affects the way that they metabolize precious materials. This variation causes their body's use of the material to be inefficient. As a result, they consume much more of the material to meet their dietary needs. This causes flecks of that material to be present in the Kirin's coat. The flecks are generally of the material that they eat the most, so fleck color is not heritable. It causes a twinkling effect, most easily seen in the sunlight. It is a pretty uncommon variation. However, it is an inheritable recessive trait and it is commonly seen in family lines. (TT = no twinkle, not a carrier. Tt = no twinkle, a carrier. tt = twinkle, a carrier)

Psychological Information--
Crested Kirins are highly intelligent creatures. They are socially and self-aware and they form very strong bonds with their Kirin parter, their family, or their human if they are domesticated. When Kirins look into each others' eyes or into the eyes of their human, they strengthen their bond. Independent Kirins(Kirins that do not interact with humans) commonly live in family groups consisting of the parental pair and the pair's offspring. The offspring will leave its parents when it is old enough to find it's own territory and pair. Or, the parents will let them stay to form a larger family group. In rare cases, family groups of Kirins will join together to form a clan. In this case, the most dominant pair will act as the clan's leaders. Sometimes, the quantity and quality of treasures in the Kirin's antlers can determine the ranking of the Kirin. Often times, a family group will have an heirloom. This heirloom can be anything that a Kirin in the family at some point fancied (like a chunk of gold) and passed down to its offspring, who passed it down to its offspring, who continued the trend. A less desirable Kirin trait is that they are prone to hoard. They have a possessive and selfish streak which causes them to be extremely protective of their treasures or heirlooms.
Kirins that have a human companion are called Domesticated.

Crested Kirins--

Postby Dia. » Sun Dec 27, 2015 4:43 pm

Staff Information--
    • Artists create Crested Kirins for people to adopt and they design Kirin offspring. Artists may also create customs when they are available. It is expected that artists will be active enough to keep the species running smoothly. In the event of a planned absence, please alert Dia or Mirage. Kirins should follow the species guidelines and artists should keep in mind that quality is greater than quantity. Adoptable Kirins should always be free, but customs and breedings(not yet available) may be paid. The adoptable competitions should be reasonable, but can range in type and difficulty. Naming competitions, raffles, FCFS, art, impress me, and similar competitions are all acceptable. An end date should always be posted and there will not be an extension if there is at least one completed form. Competitions should be judged within a month. If you cannot judge the competition within a month, alert Dia. or Mirage so they may judge it for you. One runner-up Kirin may be offered if there are two forms that both stand out and if it is a higher-effort competition. Sometimes two may be given out if the artist feels it is deserved. Naming competitions, for example, will not have runner-ups. Runner-up designs will be similar to the original design created, but not exactly the same. Artists may also choose to award honorable mentions, which give points to the owners. Artists may make(or request) one custom Kirin every three months if they would like and if they have been active. One custom may be a special or event Kirin but it should be made during the event (in this case, the every three months rule does not apply but it still takes up that custom spot). The custom should be approved by Dia and/or Mirage.
    • Moderators are in charge of the point bank as well as making sure that the threads are running smoothly. They may answer questions if it is needed and they can give a confident answer. Their largest job is keeping track of the points that owners accumulate for their Kirins. Kirin mods should watch the point bank. When people submit their form, the mods are in charge of checking to make sure that their point balance is correct, that the art is valid, and that everything is in order before accepting their form and assigning the updated point balance. Moderators may request one custom Kirin every four months if they would like and if they have been active. One custom may be a special or event Kirin, but it should be made during the event (in this case, the every four months rule does not apply, but it still takes up that custom spot). The custom should be approved by Dia and/or Mirage.
    • Archivists are extremely important in this species. They are responsible for keeping up with the points that moderators approve and they may step in and approve points if the moderators are unavailable. They keep the archives up to date so that people's Kirins and points are accurate. Archivists must be active, as keeping up with the archives will make the job indefinitely easier. They may request one custom Kirin every four months if they would like and if they have been active. One custom may be a special or event Kirin, but it should be made during the event (in this case, the every four months rule does not apply, but it still takes up that custom spot). The custom should be approved by Dia and/or Mirage.
