Prompt:Settings stares in disbelief down at Wires, who’s giving him the widest, saddest eyes possible in their new form… as a worm. “This is ridiculous,” he tells them, and Wires wiggles in shame, head falling down. Settings continues, “You know I
already said I would love you if you were a worm. Why in the ten stars’ names did you feel the need to prove it?”
Unable to protest much given her form, Wires wiggles again, trying to get her point across to Settings. He only scoops her up with one paw and a sigh. “I’ll know, I’ll help you get back. But you’re lucky I love you, to do this.”
And that I have authority, too, or else you’d be stuck here and banned from leaving even to find a cure for your condition. That’s what Storage and Software would have me do.After a long journey away from the city in which Wires made themself a home, embarrassingly, in Settings’ hair, the two tech-city dwellers found themselves in a completely different place,
a large village out by the woods. Neither could quite explain how, specifically, they got there… at one point they both seemed to black out while continuing their journey. Nevertheless, they make it there, and as Settings steps paw in the village, heads turn to meet him.
A large, fluffy taupe cat rushes out, followed by a lilac smoke and a decorated chocolate colorpoint. The metamorfeli tower over them, but it doesn’t deter the taupe, who stares with calculated curiosity. “The spirits told me we’d be receiving odd guests like you,” he tells Settings. “To help another one like our dear Wormwood-glade.”
The lilac smoke looks a little embarrassed and glances to the colorpoint, who stands taller. “Wecome to Hsiin’al,” she tells the city-dwellers. “That there is
Mumble-hound, our secret-keeper snd spirit guide. My name is
Little-pigeon, the leader of the group. And, as Mumble-hound mentioned, that is
Wormwood-glade. You may be relieved to know that they have been through the same thing as your companion, once. They’re… quite good at getting themself turned into odd objects and creatures, actually.”
Wires was sitting now on Settings’ raised paw, as the baffled city-leader thinks,
how in the world does this happen more than once?? Regardless, he nods. “I thought you may be able to help.”
The Hsiin’al chrii work their magic—
literally— on Wires, including a few others not part of the seeming-welcoming committee. Finally, the worm has been returned to their natural cat form, and Wires jumps at Settings to embrace him— an action he returns slower, a little more awkwardly.
“Thank you for saving me!” The ex-worm cries to the Hsiin’al chrii, and then to his metamorfeli partner. “And, you too for taking me here!”
“Oh, ah. It’s… it’s nothing,” Settings shrugs. “Just can’t have one of my best court members unable to work.” Despite the cold words, Wires beams. They’re glad he was the one to find and help them. They couldn’t stand the embarrassment of anyone else realizing who they were and what they’d done to themself on accident! No more messing around with unknown devices for Wires, now.
