Wip!
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
- John 13:34-35
Sunpaw and I never should have been in that weird twolegplace at all, we thought we were being so brave and sneaky, as we hid in the shadows, and climbed up the weird clanging snake that spits water when it rains. Apprentices can be so... naive sometimes...
When the lights turned on, and we heard the dogs start to bark, we knew we were in for a rough time, we were off the roof before the twolegs even sent their dogs after us, but I was faster, I've always been faster than Sunpaw, when i slipped through the gap in the fence, Sunpaw was right behind me, we were home free!
Until the dogs crashed right into the fence behind us of course. I don't know if you've ever experienced the way the air flies by when something falls right behind you before, but thinking about that feeling still makes my belly ache even now. I was the lucky one though, it was Sunpaw who actually got trapped underneath the fence, I didnt see what happened afterwards, because I was too busy running and trying to lead those dogs away from where Sunpaw was stuck, but he says the top of the thing that fell was like jaws, with horrible metal teeth that dug into his face and side as he tried to squeeze out, he swears to this day that the wire fence bit down harder as he was trying to escape, but I dont know, the next time we explored to look for the strange teeth the whole fence was gone, and the dogs scent was thick in the air.
My mentor was so so mad at me when we got back, I thought they might be proud that I escaped and outpaced 2 dogs with no injuries, but they kept going on about how 'irresponsible' we were, and how the twolegplace was no place for two apprentices who were so young. Sunpaw was fine in the end, but the fence chewed him up real bad, everyone thought it was the dogs but scoffed when we swore up and down the dogs never lay a paw on us.
But I digress, Sunstripe was a changed cat after that day, always wanting to do the responsible thing, and when poor Thistlepelt fell under his mentorship, he barely let her out of his sight for a second. I guess I understand why though, its easy to see the interesting stories as fun things to tell when you get to my age, but I think I would bind your paws in cobweb myself if any of you wee things were planning on sneaking into dangerous places now. Ah, I hear Sunstripe coming back from his patrol, run along now, and remember that this is our secret, he still gets a little embarrassed when you kits pester him about how he got his scars.
