Archive: my archivePokemon name: Ichabod (after Ichabod Crane the protagonist in Washington Irving's short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow")
Pokemon typing: [Ghost/Dark]
pokemon pronouns: He/they.
prompt: Ichabod like his namesake was always a fan of spooky tales and ghost stories growing up. He never was a Pokémon who tended to get easily scared. In fact; he was fascinated with everything dark and spooky. Maybe it didn't help that he was a ghost and dark type Pokémon. But he grew up in the wild and spooky tales are hard to come by and naturally; he had to get creative to find his next story. Once he came across a Pokémon, a cheerful skitty of whom was not afraid of his spooky appearance.
Curious, he decided to ask her name. "What is your name?" He inquired with a graceful bow. "I'm
Petunia" the skitty replied cheerfully. "And I am called Ichabod" He repiled politely before noticing that Petunia wore a light blue ribbon and a matching white heart patterned light blue collar with a sliver heart shaped tag with her name engraved upon it. "How did you get your accessories, if I may ask?" Ichabod asked curiously. "A human made them for me, my trainer Laura!" Petunia cheerfully explained. "I see do you think humans like this Laura of yours would know any good ghost stories?"
"Oh yeah! You could try visiting the campground. They love telling spooky stories." Her ears flicked hearing the footsteps of someone approaching and she turned to gaze in the direction of the footsteps. "Petunia! Come here girl, time for dinner!" Her trainer Laura called. "Sorry, I have to go. See you around, Ichabod?" She dipped her head apologetically before running over to her trainer. "See you later, Petunia." Ichabod agreed, watching her leave with curiosity regarding to her relationship with the human. "Hey, I heard you have dinner for me, Laura?" Petunia mewed and rubbed on her trainer's legs purring. "I wonder what you've been up to, Petunia.." Laura murmured, seeing a pair of glowing eyes in the forest behind her Pokémon partner but when she blinked they were gone. "Must have been my imagination." Laura thought and shrugged, turned to follow Petunia back to the campground.
Ichabod had turned away when he realized the trainer had seen his glowing eyes in the dimming light of the forest. He wasn’t sure that he wanted to get caught. He knew stories from his fellow Pokémon that told about humans and those Pokéballs that they used to catch wild Pokémon like himself. But he was curious and started to wonder would any human love him like Petunia seemed to be loved by Laura? He shook his head, deciding that for now; he just wanted to hear those ghost stories. So silently he followed Petunia and Laura, sticking to the darker shadows to hide himself from view. "It was a dark night just like tonight!" He heard a male human say in a deep voice, while holding up a flashlight beneath his face, trying to sound spooky.
"Oh Marcus, knock it off! Get on with the story, you're not that scary." Laura muttered while Marcus laughed at his own attempt at being scary. "Yeah, Marcus! A gengar is scarier then you" The other male human joked. "Hey Gabriel, why you don't you try then? I dare ya!" Marcus retorted smugly. "I think I will!" Gabriel replied and lifted up his flashlight, pointing the light onto his chin and grinned. "And the moon was full and bright, casting dark shadows onto the land. A Pokémon trainer just like us was walking in the forest. He had gotten lost and couldn't find his way to the campground. He was a nervous wreck and kept jumping at every sound. It didn't help that he forgot to pack a flashlight in his backpack and he didn't have any electric Pokémon with him who could light the way. So in the dark he stumbled around for hours, starting to lose hope of ever finding his way to the campground. When suddenly! He saw a pair of bright glowing eyes watching him." Gabriel gestured dramatically to emphasize the story. "Hey that's pretty neat! Did you let out one of your Pokémon earlier cause there's a pair of glowing eyes behind you, Gabriel" Marcus asked playfully. "Uh no. I didn't" He replied nervously.
"Then who is that?" Laura asked and pointed at the dark silhouette behind him. Ichabod looked around
'Who are they talking about? Is it me?' Suddenly it got very quiet then a shrill scream broke the silence and the Pokémon trainers huddled together scaredly. The moon had peaked from behind the trees and Ichabod was in full view of Marcus, Gabriel and Laura. It wasn't his floating head that scared them, it was his sudden appearance. "What kind of Pokémon is that?!" Laura asked nervously. "Did you just scream like a girl, Marcus?" Gabriel laughed breathlessly. "Ummm No!" Marcus retorted blushing wildly in embarrassment. "You totally did! Marcus screams like a girl." Gabriel replied in a singsong voice and laughed. Meanwhile Laura stared in awe at Ichabod until Petunia ran up to him wagging her tail. "Hey Ichabod! I guess you scare everyone trying to hear the story right?" Petunia asked. "I guess so. I didn't mean to." Ichabod nodded, tilting his head sadly. "Aw I bet they aren't scared of you now though!"
Ichabod nodded in slightly timid agreement and approached the group with a warm smile, looking awfully excited and trying his best to look friendly. "Can you finish the story now? It was just getting interesting!" Laura exchanged a slightly puzzled look with Marcus and Gabriel before they all burst out laughing. "Wow you must really like spooky stories, Ichabod!" Petunia exclaims with a giggle. "I really do!" He replies before sitting down with the group.
