MYO choice: Darkrai
Prompt: [Word count: 1120] [Pokemon used: Daidaiiro]
This was Geosenge town. His trainer had been excited to visit Kalos, so it was the first region besides Galar that he and Rylanie were set to explore. The town already had a mysterious air with large stones from ages past surrounding it. Usually, the town was still and silent as if holding its breath anticipating for something to awaken out of the silent stones.
However, today was different! The inhabitants of Geosenge town had prepared an incredible Halloween festival with plenty to do, experience, and see. Daidaiiro wandered amidst the crowd. It had grown quite dark as it was a night of a new moon, but he still followed the people out towards the forest. He had separated from his trainer in all the disarray, but he wasn't concerned. No, he was dazzled by the spectacular display of blue lights that shone from up ahead. He didn't have a clue where they were coming from, but it reminded him of the stadium lights from his hometown, Motostoke in Galar. In his nostalgic mood, he gazed up expectantly watching what he imagined was a show the people of the town had prepared for their guests. In his mind, it seemed that the ancient ruins were finally showcasing their rumored, mysterious power.
Unfortunately, an ear-piercing screech and the sudden filling of red smoke alerted the onlookers of something far more sinister and dire. Screams joined the foreign Pokémon's screeches. A wave of people began to turn but then plop to the ground in droves.
People around him gasped, "Their life is being sapped away! It must be Yveltal!"
"Arceus forbid. It sort of looks like a Darkrai though."
Daidaiiro's heart leapt to his throat as he peered around for his trainer. She had no one to protect her! Was her life being sapped away too? With no trace of her, he feared that she was one of the people that had fallen. He had no choice but to push onward seeking his trainer and confronting the evil-spirited creature. With a powerful kick, he began dashing forward ready to face his doom. In his sprint, he tried to fire up his body preparing to harness a tremendous amount of force and energy. Suddenly, he was jolted backwards by a sudden grabbing of his ears. Panicked, he kicked and struggled against the invader until he recognized his own trainer. He squeaked in relief then confusion. She let him go.
"Daidaiiro! Where are you going? Are you insane? You can't fight that thing! You're just level three! You're a baby!" exclaimed Rylanie, his trainer. He pouted frustrated that she was hindering him, but he realized that she was right about him having no chance to face the beast head on. Still! He couldn't just do nothing. Maybe he could sneak attack it? He turned to the trees and grinned as he hatched his plan. Rylanie caught the glance and read the situation immeadietly. "Oh, no! You're not attacking him and that's final," she snapped.
The Scorbunny's ears flopped as he looked at her deflated. The disappointed look pierced her heart. His trainer's voice and expression softened. She got on her knees and gave her Pokémon a soothing pet. "I'm sorry, Daidaiiro. I know you want to help, but we can't be brash about this. Brashness isn't bravery. If you blindly just run up the monster without any sense of strategy or planning, then what's the point when you get knocked out instantly? You've helped no one. Bravery is doing the right thing even if we wouldn't prefer to do things that way. There is always a way to help. I'm going to run to get the gym leaders and alert them of this attack. You can tend to the fallen. You're fast, Daidaiiro. You can pick them up and carry them to the Pokémon center. When you do that, others like you will follow." She stood up flinching as she heard another screech. It was time to go. She asked one last thing, "Ready?" The Scorbunny nodded.
They parted ways running. He hopped into action carefully picking up bug and bird Pokémon while doing his best to avoid getting his own life sapped. On the first trip to the Pokémon center, he was given a cart to roll people and Pokémon on to make his trips easier. Other nurses and doctors followed him. He led them to the site, and they quickly started lifting people and rolling them away. Due to Daidaiiro's poor stamina, he had trouble keeping up after a few round trips. Thankfully, Rylanie was right. Many were following suit and picking up people and their Pokémon.
"This one can't be moved," mumbled a nurse. She peered around locking eyes with the watching Scorbunny. She called out to him, "You! Ask a nurse to bring some medicine and berries." He nodded then dashed off exerting himself. At least, he wasn't burdened by extra weight this time. After picking up the acquired medicine, he managed to return with what the nurse needed. "That's good. Thank you, little one," she remarked appreciatively before applying herself to her patient.
Daidaiiro stayed by the nurse's side catching his breath and wondering where his dear trainer had gone. All of a sudden, he watched a yellow blur dash by with two Lucarios at the woman's heels. He watched with his mouth ajar watching the blonde ponytail whip around in the wind as the lady exclaimed, "Time for Lady Korrina's big appearance! Let's see how you stand up to my ultra-powerful Lucario duo!" She had other pokeballs in her hands clearly expecting to have to bring out her whole team to face this legendary fusion. With the entrance of the city's gym leader, many others joined in bringing their Pokémon to quell the disaster. Daidaiiro plopped to the ground sitting and clearly enthralled by the ensuing battle.
Rylanie rushed up to Daidaiiro scooping him up and smiling as she panted. "Got someone," she chuckled then noticed the pout on her Scorbunny's face. "Hey," she started softly looking him in the eye. She could tell he was feeling envious of Korrina's Pokémon, who not only were a gym leader's Pokémon but were fighting the great legendary. It was Daidaiiro's dream. She tried to encourage him, "You did well. One day, we will be strong enough to join them. It's not like disasters will cease forever, you know? You'll get your chance. I promise you, Daidaiiro."
Daidaiiro beamed back at his trainer and squeaked back happily. She held up some Halloween themed macaroons that she bought while Daidaiiro had wondered away from her earlier. He lit up and took one munching on it. They then both watched the fight together.
