Prompt:Belladonna hadn't always been this way. Slightly off, in a way one might not catch at a glance - tail a bit too long, teeth just a little too sharp. No, she used to be an ordinary cat... that was, until her scaly little friend came along.
It had been a cold day, as it usually was back in those old forests. Too cold for a young cat to be out on her own, without a warm nest or a place to call her own. Certainly too cold for a young snake, who never should have been slithering its way up a pine tree in the first place, let alone in the middle of autumn. But, as cold as it was, they were both still out there, shivering among needles and crumbling leaves.
Belladonna hadn't seen the snake, at first. She was tired, and cold, and a bit grumpy to top it all off, so she hadn't been paying much attention when she began to climb the old pine, searching for a safe place to take a nap. The snake had also been trying to nap - but apparently that became slightly more difficult when a cat's claws were suddenly embedded in your tail.
The snake had been fast, as snakes usually were, and the last things Belladonna remembered were fangs in her paw and her head connecting with the ground.
When she awoke, she miraculously wasn't dead. Not from smacking her head off the near frozen ground, nor from a good-sized snake swallowing her whole. In fact, the snake didn't seem interested in any sort of violence at the moment - it was just wound up across her flank... napping.
And he had, more or less, never left it since. Even as her teeth grew longer, and her prey behaved... oddly whenever she nipped at them, and her tail seemed to move perfectly in sync with Daffodil's, and her tongue felt a bit funny in her mouth. And even as he grew and grew, larger than Belladonna knew snakes could grow, until he could wrap himself around her completely. It was convenient for travel - Daffodil had a great grip - and the impression they made on others was hysterical, to put it lightly.
Maybe a bit of an odd way to start a friendship - but Belladonna was grateful he had enjoyed the warmth of her pelt enough to not have her for breakfast.
