Link to thread: The Islesname: Dew That Glistens In The Morning - Dew
prompt: Crimson darkened the skies, rain cascaded down from the expanse above and the wails of cats exploded into the air. This can’t be happening. A lethal black concealed the light in her vision and the breath in her lungs had dispersed in a matter of seconds.
“A deathly darkness is coming to sweep away the light. Unite with those who linger beyond the fog. Trust them even though they may not seem to trust you. Do it, for the future of two are crumbling, like castles of sand.”With fear and pure dread pounding in unison in her skull, her dark-leafy green gaze blinked awake. Forcing herself on her toes, the gentle snores of her clanmates enveloped the air, a certain dreaminess attempting to lull her back to sleep.
No. I mustn't. A yawn widened her lips, and her legs faltered a little, as if begging her to let darkness consume her, once again.
Stepping out into the open, the clouds were dark and sunlight ceased to pour over the Isles. Her head was lifted skywards as she gazed into the sky. She could’ve sworn she had seen a streak of lightning flash across the darkness and part of her wanted to wail her anxieties to her spiritual leaders.
We don’t deserve this. A harsh bitter wind ruffled her fur and specks of sand flew into the open. Waves lapped at her paws, turning her blood into ice.
She had to warn her clan. Buds of flowers were torn from the lush grass and water showered from the sky. The islanders had begun to stir and her figure trembling with fear.
“Everyone up!” Her voice was laced with urgency and uneasiness ran wild in her soul.
“What is the meaning of this?” The light, airy voice of Star, the leader of the Isles resonated from the shadows.
“It’s just a storm, Dew. Nothing more.”Part of her wanted to back down and submit to the authority of her leader, but the other quite the opposite.
“No, Star.” A shiver ran down her spine. What was she thinking? Defying the leader?
“There’s no time to waste. The Prophecy. It’s happening. ” The slight of shuffling caused her to stiffen.
“I trust you. Lead the way.” Those words took her by surprise.
“Wh..what?” The roar of thunder bellowed into reality and she nodded, dipping her head to the tri-color leader.
“Thank you, Star.”The pathway to the upperground was a struggle between dirt and true grit. The wails of kits left her agitated as well as the churning in her empty belly. Though, she wasn’t fond of eating fish. At this point, she was just about to eat anything. Her pads were numb and crimson traced the crevesses of my paws.
Hope swarmed her features when she saw a small cave curving on the elevated surface, we sauntered onwards.
“Up ahead!” Her call had lifted heads and it only took a matter of moments for the clan to settle into the makeshift shelter. Giving herself a shake, she licked her shoulder to smooth out her tousled fur. The stone-cold floor was damp from the rain and droplets of water trickled down the entrance of the small cave. It was cramped in the protected space. But, even then, there were no complaints. It was better than being in the open.
No hunting patrols were sent out that evening, leaving her restless and uncomfortable. The growling in her belly didn’t cease and as long as the storm rolled on, it felt like eternity.
“You, alright?” The masculine voice of a nearby combatant resonated from beside her.
“Just a little hungry, that’s all.” A soft smile tugged on her lips as he shuffled closer, pressing against her fur.
“Here.” The well-muscled islander murmured, his sweet scent flooded her nostrils and in a little gesture, he nosed a dark, soaked corpse towards her.
“I snuck out earlier and caught this. It’s a little wet, but I think it’ll do in this kind of weather.” Giving her a light-hearted grin, he let his jaws extend in a yawn.
“Go on, eat up.” And her hunger was finally satisfied. [691/700]
