Prompt: Acornpaw rested his chin on his paws, huddled in the apprentice den. The others were already fast asleep, but he was wide awake. The wind was whistling through the tunnels and caves, creating a high pitched wail. The fur on the back of his neck spiked, as he remembered the story Mothpaw had told a few moons ago. It had been a windy night, like this one.
"A cat I used to know told me that caves are full of ghosts," Mothpaw had said. "They follow the source of their unfinished business form underground, and caves let them get to the surface. On nights like this, you can hear them wailing."
"But we're in a cave right now," Acornpaw had said anxiously. "You don't think that ghosts could come here, do you?" Mothpaw had only shrugged.
The conversation had moved on, and the others seemed to forget the story, but none of them had ghosts that would follow them. Acornpaw laid awake, unable to sleep, especially when the wind was loud. He was terrified that the ghosts from his past would come out of the darkness to claim him. He kept his eyes fixed on the dark entrance to the apprentice's den.
It wasn't my fault, he thought. I had to, please, you have to understand...
The wind kept howling, whistling through Cometclan's caves. Acornpaw's tail twitched nervously at a sound outside the den, but it was just a leaf being whisked across the cavern floor. Every little sound only made him more scared to close his eyes, but he was so tired... Why oh why did Mothpaw have to tell that story? (275 words)
