Pain striking her heart at the mere thought of visiting the place she had once called home, the place that had flipped her life upside down. Warm sand settled around her as she sat watching, a new family she now belonged to ran towards the water. Fear of the ocean telling her to stop them... Comfort of home telling her to let them go.

With tears streaming down Kai’s face, he could do nothing but sit cross-legged on the sandy shore and stare at the horizon in front of him.
Flashbacks filled Kai’s head, reminding him of royal blue water pulling him deeper into a hard embrace. head pounding, every cell in his body screaming for oxygen. fighting until he feels like his head is about to explode,
For some reason it doesn’t hurt like he thought it would, he’s not scared anymore, he feels at peace. Kai gives in. Falling further and further into the darkness until it threatens to swallows him whole.

Thalia grew up on an alien planet, most of her life she’d never heard of the ocean. She lived blissfully unaware of what awaited her on Earth. She was kidnapped when she was 15 and that’s when she was taken to California. She escaped her captor, and was met by the vast expanse of water she would learn to be the ocean. She was awestruck, and still is despite her now living in a small houseboat on her own. The ocean is beyond her level of comprehension, so she thinks of it as a big lake and she adores it.
