gently slam dunks this psa into the universe

Postby SilhouetteStation » Thu Oct 08, 2020 1:28 pm

here are some things to read if you need them.

your eyes are wonderful. they come in a variety of colors and whatever color yours are is a beautiful color. in most cases, your eyes allow you to see. there are many things you can see. sunsets and sunrises and the stars at night and your best friends face and the art you create and the words you write and your favorite color and mountains and oceans and the people you love and everything around you. it does not matter if they are big or small or rounded or almond or anything inbetween. they are not ugly.

your eyebrows are wonderful. they shape themselves over your eyes. sometimes they are thick or thin or long or short or dark or light or anything in between. you can shape them and color them and make them unique, or you can let them grow and be wild like the warrior that you are. it does not matter what they look like. they are not ugly.

your nose is wonderful. it allows you to breathe. it allows you to smell different scents. freshly baked bread and soap and wood smoke and spices and your favorite conditioner and the earth after it rains and coffee and hot chocolate and perfume and fresh air. it does not matter if it is big or small or curved or upturned or pressed in or has a pronounced ridge or anything in between. it is not ugly.

your mouth and lips are wonderful. your mouth allows you to eat and drink. your lips allow you to whistle. the two work together to make you smile, and that is a lovely thing to do. laughter comes from your mouth. you can decorate your lips with gloss and lipstick. you can wish someone a nice day, or say your pets name, or tell someone you love them. it does not matter what size or shape your mouth is. it does not matter what size or shape your lips are. they are not ugly.

your teeth are wonderful. they allow you to bite into the foods you love. cake and pasta and chocolate and bread and fruit and vegetables and everything else. when you smile and they show, that means it is a mighty big smile, and that is a lovely thought. it does not matter if they are not perfectly white or perfectly straight. it does not matter if they are big or small or crooked. they are not ugly.

your ears are wonderful. in most cases, they allow you to hear. birds and cars and dogs barking and cats meowing and your favorite songs and lullabies and rain falling on the roof and water falling and clacking and tinkling and wind chimes and people laughing and people saying they love you. it does not matter if they are big or small or are pressed in or stick out. they are not ugly.

your hair is wonderful. it is your own and you grew it yourself. you can cut it and style it and color it to suit you and your personality and make yourself unique. it does not matter what color your hair is. it does not matter if it is long or short or medium or frizzy or curly or wavy or straight or anything in between. it is not ugly.

your arms and hands are wonderful. they allow you to hold your pets and hug the people you love and wave and dance and paint and write and high five and fist bump. your arms can be any size or length. your hands and fingers can be big or small or short or long. it does not matter what they look like. they are not ugly.

your tummy is wonderful. big or small or thin or large, rounded or slender or anything in between. tummy rolls or no tummy rolls. every kind of tummy is a good tummy. it is not ugly.

your legs and feet are wonderful. they allow you to walk and run and leap and dance. they take you to new places and lead you on adventures and help you to explore and discover the world around you. it does not matter if they are long or short or thick or thin or big or small or anything in between. they are not ugly.

all of the other details on your body are wonderful. the color of your skin; cream, tan, brown, black, any shade in between. the hair you grow on your arms and legs, whether they be light or dark or anything else. the fine little hairs on your face that make your cheeks feel like a fuzzy lil peach. the beauty spots that are unique to you, dark and beautiful; be sure to put sunblock on them, and keep them safe. the spots and freckles on your skin are unique to you, like you're carrying little pieces of your own galaxy; solitary stars, or clusters and constellations. the birthmarks that are unique to you. scars and stretch marks that show how you have grown and survived as a human being. the sound of your voice, the sound of your laughter. any tick or twitch or speech impediment you have. none of these things are ugly.

all of these things are, actually, quite beautiful.
you are a unique, beautiful human being.

society's expectations of 'traditional beauty' are stupid. you cannot compare the beauty of two different things, or two different people, and expect them to be beautiful in the same way. do not compare the delicate bud of a flower to a rose in bloom. do not compare an oil painting to a digital abstract piece. do not compare your beauty to another's when you are two different, unique human beings. use that beautiful middle finger of yours to tell society's expectations where to stick it.

drink water. eat good food. take the meds you need to. talk to people who make you feel good. bring positivity into your life. do your best to tell negativity where the door is. your body is your house. take care of it.

self love isn't necessarily about thinking that you're the best thing since sliced bread. it's saying, hey, my body doesn't look like another person's, and that's a-okay. I see these things that other people might see as flaws but I've decided, y'know what, I'm gonna love them anyway. you say, they're my flaws. you literally own what makes you different, so act like you own them. you look at yourself in the mirror each night before you go to bed and in the morning when you first wake up and tell your reflection that you love it. tell yourself you love your body. you might not right now, but the more you say it, the more you think it, the more the words will come naturally. loving yourself takes time, but it will come naturally.

you are going to love so many things in your life; please let yourself be one of them.

Thank you so much, I've been having some big issues with my body image lately and it was really nice to get to read your wonderful messages, I really needed to hear them. <3
