Vallory wasn’t always the type of viscet to feel regretful of what she’s done. Before, she didn’t really even have reason to; she was morally just and optimistic. Even if she wasn’t extroverted, she always did what she could to be helpful to the viscets and visclings around her. She had a good reputation for a good couple years, until she met Jake.
The two viscets shared a strong bond seemingly right away—they both loved to help those around them, and more importantly, they were supportive of each other. Things were positive, and only seemed to look up from there. After a year of being together, Vallory had Oreo. At that point, Jake started gradually appearing less and less at their home, leaving often to handle “important matters” (or so he said). At first, Vallory just shrugged it off. He was a busy viscet after all, what with his odd new job; but as the days went on, something began to not feel right about the whole situation. She’s tried bringing it up over dinner, but Jake would always behaved dismissively about it altogether. By then she knew something definitely wasn’t right.
At that same point in time, Jake came home the next night in a panic, ushering his small family out of their home. He never gave a direct answer, only dodging the questions and confused looks from Val and Oreo. When they reached their new “safe” home, Val had reached her boiling point.
Jake returned home in a rush, nearly throwing open the door as he entered. He was frantically calling for Vallory, but this time, she didn’t answer. She was becoming furious with his actions and how he was keeping secrets from his own family. When he finally approached her and admitted what he was keeping from them, Val boiled over. “I can’t believe you,” she snapped, infuriated to find out that Jake was endangering his family. He made them move when viscets were coming after him, but felt it wasn’t necessary to get them involved in his matters. Behind Val’s back he had a secret job of committing thievery and crimes, creating a bounty on his head as well as anyone closely involved with him. Had he told her, she would’ve stopped him altogether, so he hid it for his own selfish desires and money.
“I just can’t believe all of this,” her eyes were trained on the floor boards, tracing over the grooves and nails in the wood. Little did they both know, Oreo snuck into the room, now hiding behind her mother. Val lifted her intense gaze, matching with Jake’s, “I can’t believe I trusted you. I trusted you with my life...and this is how I’m repaid.” Her lip curled into a snarl as she continued, “I chose you of all viscets to put my trust in, and you endanger our family just for your own wants!” Jake faked an expression of hurt, but she saw right through him. “Don’t even try.”
He turned to leave, but paused just before he exited her home. “I did it for you-” she cut him off immediately, “just leave.” Jake opened the door and closed it quietly behind him, never to be seen by them again.
Vallory’s gaze fell back down to the floor, and Oreo’s soft crying broke her out of her thoughts. “You,” she growled, “you caused this!” She turned on the viscling, pelt bristling in fury. “N-no!” Oreo desperately cried, but it was in vain.
Little did Vallory realize, she created her own trust issues that would affect her life forever.
