    Its finally starting!

I know a lot of people have been waiting for the HP House kalons. I had originally planned to release them for Halloween, but got busy. Then the plan was to put out one a week in November, but forgot about Standard Season. So they got pushed to December!

The others will be released one each week. The next is Ravenclaw!

[PS: I’ll post the version without the scarf tomorrow when I’m on my laptop and not mobile!]

    EDIT: Without the scarf

    kalon name: Edmund
    favorite food memory:
A ring from the doorbell rattled through the house.

Edmund groaned, rolling over in bed and covering his ears with a pillow. 'Why?' he thought bitterly, just as the doorbell went off again. That darn thing had always been too loud, but Victor had insisted on keeping the old home just the way it was. "Blah, blah, ancestors, blah, blah," he muttered mockingly, heart aching. It hurt too much to think about the memories they shared, so instead Edmund mocked them in hopes that the pain would turn to anger. The doorbell went off again, ringing throughout the ancient home like some sort of a war horn, and brought him from his thoughts.

He yanked back the covers, causing the strawberries and chocolate wrappers that had been scattered across the bed to flutter down and lay on the floor. He let his feet fall over the edge of the bed as he rubbed his eyes. Then came the doorbell. Again. The man marched down the marble stairs, silk robe flowing behind him, and flung open the front door with a vicious growl.

All of the hate disappeared from his face when he saw who was there.

      "Gran?"

A frail old lady stood outside in the cold New York weather, her luggage in a pile at her feet and no trace of how she had gotten there. She wore a sweet smile that warmed Edmund's heart. "Are you going to invite me in? Or should we just stand outside in the cold and freeze?" Her words shook him to action, as if he hadn't known whether she was real until she spoke. He gathered up her luggage and carried it in behind her before finally managing a question, "What are you doing here, Gran? You're supposed to be at that art open-"

"What kind of a grandmother would I be if I let my only grandchild get married without me there?" she scoffed, starting to shed her layers. She sat down in an armchair by the empty fireplace and waited for him to take the seat opposite her, but he just stood with his jaw open. Could she really not know that the wedding was off? "Gran, he called it off, left me at the alter. Besides," Edmund glanced at his watch, "you're about three hours too late, anyways." The old lady waved her hand to dismiss his words.

'Maybe she's started to get dementia? How old do people have to be to get de-' For a brief moment she glared at him and he swore that she could read his thoughts. "Darling, I know that little rat left. I always knew he was going to do this, but you never would have believed it," her words felt as though she was twisting the knife that Victor had already plunged into his heart. How could his own grandmother not tell him something like that? She shrugged, the coldness of the action offset by the return of her warm smile. "Go get dressed, darling," her orders were firm but gentle.

It didn't stop him from protesting, but after a long while of arguing he finally gave up. He returned down stairs dressed in a nice suit, his already salt and pepper hair parted and lightly combed. Though there was nothing that could be done about the frown settled on his features. His grandmother had disappeared from her chair, leaving Edmund to sigh and wait for her return. She entered the room with a large, white box rolled beside her. His gran ordered him to take it to the car, which he protested vehemently.

      "It's my wedding cake, Gran!"

"And you won't be needing it anymore, will you?" she snapped, ending the argument then and there. Ed took the cake to his car, as told, and the two started off with it in the back seat. He tried to ask where they were going, but his grandmother only gave him directions as he needed them. It was obnoxious and pointless and left him feeling a bit heated. Edmund had always had a soft spot for his gran, though, so he obliged without too much more objection than he had already voiced.

'Oh, good, the traffic isn't bad on this truly horrendous day of my life,' he thought sourly, noticing how little cars were on the street compared to usual. As they were driving, he let his eyes wander to the cars lining the streets of this particular neighborhood. It seemed unusual to see so many cars parked along the street, and they were all such nice cars. 'The sort that should be in garages, surely.'

A bit down road he spotted a familiar car. Victor's car. More specifically, the luxury car that he had bought him for their fifth anniversary together. Without thinking properly, Edmund slammed on the brakes. His grandmother sat next to him, smiling, but he was unsure what to do. He slowly let his foot off of the brakes, deciding to just ignore it. "Edmund! You park this car, right now!" His eyebrows were furrowed in confusion, but he did as he was told. Before he could even manage a word, his gran hopped out of the car, swiped a handful of the wedding cake from the backseat and marched straight up to Victor's car.

"Gran!" he shouted, running after her, "You can't do that!"

"Watch me!" she shouted back, smearing the cake all over the silver car.

It was completely against Edmund's demure, compassionate nature, but his gran managed to convince him. He smeared the wedding cake over the car, writing "liar" on the side in big letters. Somehow, using their wedding cake made it feel like a small victory, made his heart ache less. Before long, the two of them were giggling like little school girls and writing insults all over the car.

And that was how a cake turned Edmund's worst memory into one of his best.

couldn't manage art, unfortunately, but here's a great big good luck to everyone !! gl judging, Red, and I can't wait to see the other house cuties <3

kalon name: Cedric
favorite food memory:
Cedric had spent many of his weeks in study, reading informational and fantasy novels to increase his understanding of the world. Ceds did this because one of his friends were specifically knowledgeable, and they seemed to mock him for his lack of information about the world and the creatures of it. He was attached to his work, to the point where he forgot to properly care for himself, often missing meals and skipping times where he was supposed to clean himself. While it made him more knowledgeable, and made him very ill, unable to do much of anything. He continued to study in his state of illness, being taken care of by his friend, admitting to his friend that he wasn’t eating properly, and wasn’t cleaning as he should either. This shocked his friend, immediately being inclined to help Cedric out of his illness by helping him clean, and cooking for him in his weak state.

While Cedric expected something much less from his smart friend, he was greeted with nothing less that a feast after the first shower he’d had in weeks. With sweets and pastries of all kinds, baked in all heats, and meals of all sizes around him. He could never eat it all, as his ability to hold food had changed over his study days, But the feeling of being so overwhelmed, knowing that his friend still cared about him and that mocking they did didn’t mean they hated him or saw him as less than a friend, It warmed his heart. And that feeling of a calmer heart along with the cold of being freshly washed, and the warmth of the food he was given, it felt almost surreal in a way he couldn’t quite explain.

favorite food memory. christmas dinner at imogen's was always a treat. the carolers that could be heard singing further down the street, the christmas lights strung up and decorations out on all the houses, and for those who didnt happen to celebrate christmas, but rather, other holidays during this festive time, their houses echoed out laughter and good humor from the families inside, and smells of foods she had never tasted but found herself for a moment curious, wafted through the air. such was commonplace during this time, where every year, she would drive up to her friend's home and drop off the presents she'd gotten for the kits, yet was somehow roped into staying for dinner and eventually crashing on the couch until morning, when it was safer to drive back home.

as soon as she had stepped out and began to walk to the door, several voices could be heard from behind the door. smiling as she walked up the steps and onto the porch, florence didnt havd to wait long before the door swung open, and she was greeted by a tired looking imogen.

"kiddos giving you trouble?" she teased, stepping over a stuffed bear on the floor and making her way towards the coat rack.

"and cooking for seven people." imogen huffed, but there was an amused smile on her face, and her features softened as a curious head poked around the corner, before realizing they had been spotted and ducking away out of sight.

"well, dont suppose i should keep you all waiting," florence said finally, dropping off the gifts under the tree and, after a moment of admiration, headed into the dining room. the room was alight with christmas lights, and smelled strongly of many kinds of foods, all mixing together nicely. garlands of many colors were wrapped around the chairs and table, and from her seat, the christmas tree was easily visible. across from her was little winnifred, and next to her, her sister beatrix, who had a look of mischief on her face.

after saying grace, the food was passed around. beatrix, as usual, had taken a generous amount of biscuits before getting anything else. her sisters had their own servings dished out, very normal, and imogen and bernadette had gotten one of just about everything. florence, on the other hand, had her mind set on two things only—autumn beef stew and pumpkin juice. after pouring herself a generous portion of stew and a glass of pumpkin juice, she waited until everyone had their servings sorted out before digging in.

bernadette and imogen's pumpkin juice and autumn stew really was like nothing else. she'd had autumn stew and pumpkin juice plenty times before, not just at imogen's, but the couple did it best, truly. none she had tried tasted nearly as good, nearly as much of an embodiment of the autumn/christmas spirit, and that's why she liked getting her stew here, rather than anywhere else.

it reminded her of times with her own family, when she was younger, and her parents would make nothing but autumn stew and pumpkin juice. it reminded her of warmth, comfort, and safety. it reminded her of the good times, with family and friends, and what christmas was really about—spending time with those you loved and appreciating what you had. though the food itself had no magical properties, some childish part of her feels like somehow, they are. each time she comes here every christmas eve, she feels her hope recharged, energized, and she is at peace. it made her feel the spirit of chrismas, the happiness and cheer that comes with the holiday season.

dinner concluded nicely, minus the usual jokes and playful teasing. the family moved to the living room, and as the kits turned on the tv to watch christmas movies, stars in their twinkly little eyes, florence was reminded of how autumn stew and pumpkin juice made her feel, and felt a happy flutter in her heart.

although she liked to joke about it, this place had really become like a second home to her. it was hard not to think of it as such, in fact, now that she'd been spending so many christmas dinners here.

after another glass of pumpkin juice and everyone had gone to bed, she settled on the couch content but exhausted, thoughts of pumpkin juice and home carrying her off to sleep.
