I do think it would be kinda irritating to be so emotionally scarred by an event that the literal, physical scars you sustained follow you no matter what form you take with your cool shapeshifting powers you learned specifically as part of an escapist fantasy to get away from yourself and your past. But that is the price you pay to be the Main Character (or one of them, at least). Especially when you're my character and I love all things horrible and dramatic :^)

There's always a point in these things that aren't supposed to take that long that I inevitably spend way more time on than I ever planned where I stop wanting to do it and it just sort of gets half-finished-ish lol. The colors are also kind of weird in some places but I'm not fixing them anymore.

Wandering around the estate has made you weary at this point... As you stop to rest, you noticed a bright colored kalon curiously peeking their head from the corner. They look a bit lost and lonely, perhaps you could give them some company?

They love sneaking into people's homes and turning on the tv to watch her favorite little ghost. It also freaks people out tremendously which is hilarious to her.

ahh yes. back at it again with another fallout new vegas inspired drawing. is anyone surprised?? no, i doubt it lol. my obsession knows no limits or bounds.

i've been cooking this up sporadically over the past month or so. in my personal life, things have been hectic and emotional, as i've been moving a handful of hours north to attend university. lots of stress packing and making sure everything was in order with the college, but what's really been a transition has been adjusting to being on my own away from all of my friends, family, and life back at home. i especially miss my cat.

this drawing, being something i've labored on during this transition period of my life, mirrors the struggles and many tumultuous emotions i've faced and felt alongside it:

About the drawing:

for the drawing, the characters featured are my courier six OC who we all know and love, Dagger, and his companion, Boone. similarly to my life, this is an emotional piece because it features them perched on the outlook from where Boone... "saved" his late wife from enduring and suffering through the torture of the Legion. now, Boone has returned with Dagger, peering down into the Legion camp of Cottonwood Cove. Unbeknownst to Boone, this scene is foreshadowing the betrayal that is soon to come, as Dagger at this point in time has steadily put things in place to sabotage the NCR, and switch his allegiance to side with the Legion.

as the player, in game, i've become extremely attached to Boone. i love him as a character, and have grown fond of the story that i've conjured in my head about his and dagger's relationship, such as how i picture that they'll often sit in brooding silence, tossing back a couple beers to the tunes of Radio New Vegas, and staring off into the Mojave Wasteland ahead.

playing as Dagger, I knew that he would eventually side with the Legion. he's evil, afterall, and I can't help but feel the urge to join them due to my love for all things related to ancient Greece and Rome.
however, doing so would inevitably mean having to part ways with Boone, since his life and backstory have largely been about the tragedy that he's had to endure at the legion's hands, and by game mechanics, he will no longer be your in-game companion as soon as you ally yourself with his enemies.
so just like me, my character Dagger is at a crossroads, stuck deciding between what he wants to do and is best for his future at the risk of losing the person he holds dearest, or staying with his friend and letting what seems to be his future carry on and pass without him.

naturally, the correct choice is obvious.

but that doesn't mean it's an easy one to make.

focusing on just the technical application and painting process of making this, this painting was quite a challenge.
first, i started out wanting for this to look as life-like or realistic as possible. inspired by italian renaissance-era oil paintings, i hoped to emulate that style and technique digitally, and with my own sort of flair. while i don't think i captured this perfectly, i'm super proud of how this turned out.
i've never really worked with color this intensely before, but since i wanted this painting to be set during sunset (for symbolism reasons--the sun setting on one day promises the close beginning of another--but also for aesthetic and storytelling purposes) i was quite literally forced to learn, and learn i did.
it's interesting how different varying hues of red and orange can look like blues and whites under harsh shadow or direct lighting, or how human figures seem to be highlighted in a glow the color of the sun when it's behind them.
also, shoutout square shaped brushes--it was through the journey of drawing this that i have learned to love you. now i am 100% a square-brush truther. square brushes FOR THE WIN!!

all in all, i had a wonderful time painting this and learned so much from this experience! while i don't expect do be doing many other large passion-pieces like this in the future, i would love to one day come back to this style of digital painting. :)
