Here is our writing exp scale, and here is our art exp scale. The writing exp scale is the same as the one used in explore. The art exp scale may be subject to change in the future.


ＳＴＡＲＤＵＳＴ
Complete any (or all) of our three quests to earn stardust! When a quest round closes for judging, a staff member will calculate how much exp you've earned for art / writing according to our art / writing scales (see above)! Then, all exp will be converted to stardust as follows: 1 exp = 2 stardust.

Don't worry, you'll still receive experience as well! The stardust is just an additional, bonus prize that you can use to buy super cool items in Starclan's Shop!


ＷＩＮＮＥＲＳ
Winners are chosen based on effort, quality, and creativity. Prizes vary between months and quests, but Hana's favorite entries from each quest will receive a rarer bonus prize!

Q: How do we win prizes? What can we win?
A: Participating in quests will earn you experience (xp), stardust and/or MYOs (as grand prizes)! The more you write or add to your art, the more experience and stardust you could earn!

A: Experience and stardust are awarded by effort, while MYO (grand prize) winners are chosen by effort, quality, and creativity!

Q: Are we allowed to answer all three quests available for the month?
A: Yes, absolutely!

Q: How do I claim XP from the Quest Board (or from other Stars events)?
A: Add a note with a link to where you earned the XP in your next explore post! You don’t have to do any math or add the XP on your own━a writer will do that for you in their reply! c:

Q: Can Hana ask the same question twice?
A: Theoretically, yes! Our quests are chosen via random number generator from a document that only staff have access to

Q: May I suggest a prompt?
A: Yes, please do! My (vivika) dms are always open to prompt suggestions and you're also welcome to drop them in the #suggestions channel of our discord <3

Q: I responded to a prompt, but didn't get any exp! What happened?
A: Please double check the requirements for the prompt. Writing done for art-only prompts and art done for writing-only prompts won't count for any experience. If you followed the prompt requirements and answered the right prompt, then there may have been a mistake on our end; we're only human after all! Please DM one of the staff members who helped judge to let them know!

Q: Can we collab with another user for prompts?
A: Yes, you're welcome to collab with other users for quests! Any writing / art done must be clearly split and divided, so we can award xp accordingly*. Please make sure to specify what each user did (if isn't already clear) and make a note about it being a collab somewhere in your entry!

* For example, one partner can create an art piece for Quest One and the other partner can write a poem to go along with the art! Alternatively, you may both create separate art pieces or separate written pieces for the quest. Creating a single art piece where one partner lines and colors, while the other partner shades would not be allowed (as this makes xp tricky to award)!

Your cats may get sick, engage in battles with predators, fight in border skirmishes, or receive random injuries. Your cats will not die in explore unless you opt-in to death. 2. When you first start out, you’ll receive three free posts. These are given out per user, not per clan and provides your cats time to gather food and herbs! Your cats will gain no hunger for your first three posts. They also won’t encounter any predators or border skirmishes, fall ill, or receive any random injuries.

3. Max of six cats (adults/apprentices) on patrol, please! Additional cats can be included in your writing, but they won't count towards the rolls and shouldn't be linked in the "cats on patrol" sections. Kits cannot be added to the patrol list!

4. HP = health; HUP = hunger! All of your cats will start at 0% HUP (hunger) and 100% HP (health). Find out more information about HUP in “hunger & custom prey” and on HP in “health & healing”.

5. (Optional) If you’d like, you may customize your prey/predator list and/or opt-in for death! Just fill out the forms, post them on the explore thread + link them in your future explore post(s)!

6. Explore writing can be about anything, but should ideally end with / connect to a patrol! It’s a good idea to leave your explore post open for writers to jump-in, because the writer who responds will be writing about any prey/herbs found and any mini-scenarios encountered. Alternatively, you're welcome to send a patrol out without any writing as well.

7. After you've posted your explore post, wait for a writer to reply to your post before writing another one! Writing a quality explore reply can take time, so please be patient. Writers have one month (from the time they claimed your post) to get a response out to players, though it typically won't take that long. Your post wasn't skipped; we have multiple writers claiming different posts, and some might finish their replies sooner than others. For ease, you may also check if your post has been claimed and find all your prior posts and replies on our explore log!

8. When a writer responds, you may (or may not) receive a mini-scenario! If you’re still on your three free posts, you’ll encounter one of our friendly npcs! Read more about npc tasks and other mini-scenarios here!

To level up, you'll need to earn experience (EXP / XP) through exploring, participating in prompts, or sometimes even events! You'll earn +10XP for every explore post posted, as well as additional experience for writing, participating in battles, finding herbs/food, etc. Every time you level up, you get a reward!

When you level up, your previous experience is "spent" on the level up and will not roll over to your new level. For example, if you have 135XP and are level 0, you'll level up to level 1 and have 35XP left. You cannot skip levels.

All users start at level zero! Experience listed is how much is required to reach that level (+ here is another way to visualize this).

ＨＵＮＧＥＲ 　 & 　ＦＯＯＤ
To survive, your cats require food! Food points (FP) can be found randomly on patrols. The amount of food you find varies by season and number of cats on patrol. During some seasons, your cats may receive a bountiful hunt — this doubles the FP they find!

Your cats will gain +10% HUP (hunger) per patrol. This hunger gain only applies to the cats sent on that patrol. For your first three explore posts, none of your cats will gain any hunger. If a cat reaches 60% hunger or above, they will lose -10% health every patrol they go on, until they're fed enough FP to lower their hunger below 60%.

If you are running dangerously low on FP, you can purchase or swap for some from Mousespeck. If you have some spare FP, you can also trade those to Mousespeck for stardust, which can be used to buy cool items from Starclan’s shop!


ＦＥＥＤＩＮＧ 　ＹＯＵＲ 　 ＣＡＴＳ
Each FP you feed a cat removes 10% hunger (1FP = -10% hunger)! When feeding your cats, remove the prey items from your inventory and place them in the “inventory items used” box of your explore post! Make sure to also update your patrollers’ hunger accordingly in your explore post.

You can choose to split a larger prey item with multiple cats! For example, you can feed three cats with a 3FP piece of prey and each cat will lose 10% hunger. Or you could split it between two cats, and remove 20% hunger from one, and 10% hunger from another. As an additional note, you cannot split a 1FP prey between two cats (removing -5% health for each one). Each FP can only remove -10% hunger (nothing more and nothing less)!


ＤＥＦＡＵＬＴ 　 & 　ＣＵＳＴＯＭ 　 ＰＲＥＤＡＴＯＲ／ＰＲＥＹ 　 ＬＩＳＴ
(Optional) To make your explores more personalized, you’re welcome to pick what prey and/or predators will appear in your territory! This is completely optional, but if you’re interested just fill out the form below (in the code block)! Otherwise, writers will use the default list for prey and predators when replying to your posts!

To gain new cats for your clan, you can participate in adopt competitions, purchase customs, or breed your cats. You can also sometimes find MYO tickets in explore, or win them as prizes from the quest board!

To adopt a cat via a competition, check out the cats colored-in under this page. If a cat has an "adopt me!" sign on their drawing, they're probably available for adoption. We also regularly host readoptions here. Be sure to check the end dates though, because some competitions may have already closed!

To purchase a custom, you'll need to wait for an artist to open slots on the main thread. You can read more about customs here. To design a MYO ("make your own") with a MYO ticket, visit the MYO page. You can design MYOs yourself, or recruit another user/artist to design them for you!

You can also gain more cats by breeding your cats in the nursery, though you'll need to wait for an artist to open slots. If you don't have two cats yet, you can use the nursery NPCs!


ＨＯＮＯＲＡＢＬＥ　ＭＥＮＴＩＯＮＳ　＆　ＲＵＮＮＥＲ　ＵＰＳ
Sometimes an artist has a difficult time choosing just one winner for an adopt, and will reward an HM (honorable mention) or RU (runner up) to other entries. HMs can be used to purchase customs when an artist opens custom slots. You can find the HM custom prices here. RUs are an additional cat designed by the artist that will belong to you.


ＥＤＩＴＩＮＧ　ＣＡＴＳ
Interested in editing an existing cat to better match their lore or personality? You can do this with edit items! You can earn edit items in explore, or purchase them from StarClan's shop with stardust.

To edit an existing cat, you must apply the edits via a color-in of the original drawing. You can ask the artist to add yourself or someone you're commissioning to the drawing to do so. Keep in mind that at this time you may only adjust the edits of a cat, not the coat. Any coat changes will get your approval denied. The event-exclusive white spotting revamp item (info here) is the only exception at this time.

After you've edited your cat, fill out a "using items" form on the archives to put them into the approval queue! If you only applied NR edits and didn't use any items, you can post them into #approval-for-myos channel in our Discord, or message them to either approval admin (I Like Bees or Mythz).


ＥＸＰＬＯＲＩＮＧ　／　ＰＡＴＲＯＬＬＩＮＧ
To start exploring, head on over to the explore thread and fill out the code provided! Explore is available to develop your cats and clan by sending them on patrols, where they can encounter various events and earn items along the way. This mechanic is also a great way to earn experience to level-up your clans and earn cool rewards!

Everything you need to know about explore is covered in-depth on the explore thread! You're welcome to contact Vivika or another applicable moderator with any questions you may have!


ＱＵＥＳＴＳ
Another way to gain experience, as well as develop your cats and clan, is to write and/or draw responses to the prompts provided on the quest board! Quests can vary from clan traditions, to lore, to something as specific as your founder's favorite prey.

These prompts are updated monthly, and will earn you exp based on how much effort you put into your response. To use this exp to level up and receive your level up rewards, you'll need to post an explore and link to the exp you earned from the quest board. Each prompt will have a few winners chosen as well, who will receive a cool additional prize! You'll also be able to earn stardust to purchase items from Starclan's shop.

ＡＧＩＮＧ　ＵＰ
Kittens can grow to apprentices 3 weeks after their nursery ticket was accepted (or, in the case of adopts, the adopt was posted), and then to warriors after 6 weeks. Kittens without apprentice references will still take 6 weeks to grow to warriors. Apprentice adopts will grow to warriors 3 weeks after they were posted. If you'd like to grow your kits a little bit faster, the star's grace item in Starclan's shop can be used! This item removes 3 weeks off a cat's growth wait time.

To have your cat grown, you may politely bump the cat's page to remind the artist! Most artists will post growths without a reminder, and delays are often due to being busy in real life. There will be a date on the post telling you when your cat can grow.

Even after your cat's grown ref is posted, you are not required to grow your cat in lore! You're welcome to keep your cats any age in lore for as long as you'd like.

1. Follow all CS forum and Site Rules.

2. Create a storage for your Valeris within 30 days, if a storage thread is not linked within this timeframe, the Valeris will be readopted.

3. In the case of a ban from CS, your Valeris's will be readopted unless contacted. In the case of quitting, your Valeris's will be readopted unless contacted to remove them from the species. In the result of a ban from the species, all Valeris will be readopted or confiscated.

4. There is no limit to the amount of Valeris's a user can own.

5. If you have received more than one warning in the past, you may not be allowed to receive a staff position.

6. Be kind and respectful to all staff and participants within the species, even if you do not get along please remain civil.

7. Staff members may take some time to respond to questions and concerns, please do not bother our staff as they have lives as well. If something is taking over 2 weeks for a response, reach out to another available staff member.

8. Respect all user and staff pm permissions, if a person does not want pm's, please refrain from sending them one. This is to ensure everybody feels safe within the species.

9. If a Valeris receives no entries by the time a competition is over, it will be given away in the discord.

10. If a user has an account under two months with less than 50 forum posts, they cannot receive a founder, but are allowed to participate in adopts and join the discord server.

11 Do not offer or ask about breeding or offering on a user's Valeris unless they have explicitly given permission or expressed interest in offers.

12. Abide by all rules under each page, if any of these rules are broken you may receive a warning.

If you would like to report a user breaking any of these rules, you may send a dm to an available staff member and will stay anonymous. These rules are in place to ensure the species remains a safe place for everybody.

The Proficiency System is an achievement-based leveling system that encourages character development through many ✨magical ✨ art and literature prompts, as well as participation in other areas of the game. It is a worthwhile story-telling experience, with many items and rewards throughout!

There are four levels in the Proficiency System, referred to as Tiers: Novice, Apprentice, Adept, and Awakened. Each Tier has its own permissions and restrictions; some activities in the game are not readily available to Merakis of a lower Tier. Access to these areas will be unlocked as your Meraki advances through this system.

All of a Meraki's training through the Proficiency System must be tracked by Tier in their Grimoire; read more about them here.

NOVICE TIER
This Tier is about new beginnings and perseverance; practicing magic in a new, animal body can be difficult at first! Your Meraki may encounter new challenges as they relearn how to cast spells and brew potions on four legs. This is why all Merakis start as Novices, (unless Summoned by an Awakened Meraki); they must reacquaint themselves with their magical abilities!

Description: a pack creature from the Sahara Desert, it is reported to have webbed paws and reddish-skin. Possibly just a strange looking African Wild Dog, rumor has it they use pheromones when hunting to cause a disruption

Lifespan: 8-12 years in the wild, 14-16 years in captivity
Weight: 40-55 lbs (18-25 kg), a "medium" dog
Height: 25-27 in (63.5-68.5 cm) at the shoulder

Description: a wolf-like creature from the Andes Mountains, its skull is unusually large and it boasts a magnificent mane. Possibly a mountain variation of the maned wolf? If so, it's rather elusive, only three having been "caught"

Lifespan: 10-12 years in the wild, 15-20 years in captivity
Weight: 120-135 lbs (54.5-61 kg), an "extra large" dog
Height: 39-41 in (99-104 cm) at the shoulder

Description: small but fearsome, they resemble the shape of an axe with short, stubby, little legs. They prey upon the handles of unattended axes from lumberjack camps, often hoarding the handles away to be eaten later

Lifespan: 16-18 years in the wild, 18-24 years in captivity
Weight: 17-19 lbs (7.5-8.5 kg), a "small" dog
Height: 14-15 in (35.5-38 cm) at the shoulder

Description: A large, dark dog, with glowing red eyes, Church Grim protect their graveyards against any who would enter with malicious intent - supernatural or not. They often seem like they're judging the souls of those who pass by

Lifespan: unknown years in the wild, 12-14 years in captivity
Weight: 75-90 lbs (34-40.8 kg), a "large" dog
Height: 30-34 in (76.2-86.4 cm) at the shoulder

Description: dog-ish in appearance, this creature is reported to be found primarily in Myanmar. It's characterized by its short, grey fur, darker muzzle, rounded ears, and thin tail. It comes in both a large and small variation but the shelter seems to only have one size. The shopkeeper won't specify which

Lifespan: 8-12 years in the wild, 14-16 years in captivity
Weight: 24-54 lbs (11-24.5 kg), a "medium" dog?? This doesn't help you tell which size variation he has as much as you hoped, as the majority of the ones he has are 30-44 lbs (13.5-20 kg)
Height: the shopkeeper's are 21-23in (53.5-58.5 cm) at the shoulder

Description: a dog-like creature found in 玉山, it's characterized by its leopard-spotted coat, ox-like horns, and signature bark. To see one is representative of tranquility/peace

Weight: 75-85 lbs (34-38.5 kg), a "large" dog
Height: 24-26 in (61-66 cm) at the shoulder

Description: wandering the deserts is this strange beast, with its sloped snout, triangular ears, and forked tail. Associated with the god Set(h), it's often noted as reddish or pure black, but the shopkeeper seems to have a rather broad definition of the color
