“My mama always told me to be kind to others, no matter what. To show compassion to those who need it most, and to always be gentle. She was a kind old lady who loved the world for what it was, always trusting like that. No matter if times were though, she’d always be a shining light for all of us. Those were the words I lived by, until today,” Daisy said.
It was a burning hot day, one so suffocating as each drop of sweat turned to steam before ever hitting the ground. The air was thick with tension and heat, as two stood off alone in the heat of the desert sun. Daisy stood, facing them head on.
On the other side was a person Daisy thought she’d knew, someone she once called a lover. What a traitor they ended up being, she thought. It was a shame really, but it was a lesson well learned. Listening to their desperate pleas and crocodile tears sickened her, and quite frankly she couldn’t take anymore as she walked slowly towards them.
They had hurt her family. And although she herself was hurt by the betrayal, she felt far more anger towards what had happened and the fact she’d allowed it to happen. Any and all sympathy or positive memories were soured beyond repair, as she knew they had neither compassion nor remorse. A complete monster in disguise, only using her kindness to fuel their own sick and twisted ego. A coyote waiting for the perfect opportunity to snatch its prey.
Today was the day she’d make sure they’d never be able to come back around to this part of town. Her kindness had its limits.
“I was wrong to naively think you were a good person, one I’d be able to spend the rest of my life with. I’d believed that love was pure, and now, I pay the price. But you are a monster, one beyond redemption, and a disgrace.”
Walking ever so closely, Daisy pulled out a shotgun and pointed it straight at them. She watched them cower at its sight, as their smug faced was slowly replaced with fear.
“My mama loved the world, but she was the one who taught me to fight. She’s tougher than you’ll ever be, perhaps even myself too. The best fighter I’ve seen, the fastest shot in this wasteland,” she said.
“If you value your life, I would suggest you leave and never return here, ever again,” she growled at them. “Leave. You are not welcome here, nor will you ever be.”
Her patience had run out, at last.
