how peculiar. in all her time as a self-proclaimed, 'wanderer of the deep blue,' it would be easy to believe she had seen it all. but alas, here she is, in awe of this magnificent creation. a shell unlike any other in her collection, rendering no similarities whatsoever. countless times cerith had ventured over this sand, but like a fish out of water, there it sat being licked by the waves. with curiosity, she stood there hunched over examining the 'oddject,' muttering to herself as she inspected it. a large slender body with an even larger and slender elongated spire, an alarming configuration of vibrant colours topped off with a surface riddled with little notches and blunt spikes. this was by far the most beautiful and unique shell she had ever come across and with caution she picked it up off of the damp golden sand, carefully wiping off unwanted grains. satisfied, cerith trotted away still flustered with her find. but not even two minutes later she began to hear faint cries coming from the ocean. in confusion, cerith turned towards the sea and her jaw dropped to the floor the moment she saw it.

"it couldn't be, surely they aren't real ??" what appeared to be a mermaid sat splayed on a large sun-warmed rock further out past the reef. cerith locked eyes with the fish-tailed specimen. "that's mine !!" cried out the mermaid urgently. still in shock, cerith stood there silently, as pale as a ghost.
"would you be so kind as to give it back ??"
"uhm, this is yours ??" cerith yelled back, holding the pink and blue shell in the direction of the supposed mermaid.
"yes, yes it is"
"may i ask why it was sitting just over there then ??" she pointed to the spot in the sand where she first saw it.
"i lost it while on my swim last night, i've been looking for it all day, thank you so much kind stranger !!" cerith frowned in disappointment as the excitement in finding such an odd shell dissipated into thin air.
"wait there !!" ordered the mermaid, "i'll come get it." the creature dived off of the rock only to reappear soon after right in front of cerith with a beaming grin. however, upon her arrival their smile faded. "is something the matter ??" they asked. cerith shrugged,
"i found the shell with the hopes of keeping it, but if you want it back, i'd be happy to oblige," she replied quietly. the creature sighed and stayed silent for a moment. "no, you keep it. there are plenty more where i come from !!" the creature gently pushed cerith's hand away and with a smile and a small wave waddled back into the shallows before disappearing below the surface for good.

Fulgurite is not only a rare thing to find on a beach but something I've wanted the most or so I thought...as a kid. Well anyways the story is that one day I had decided to do some scavenging along the shore the morning after a thunder storm or as I had seen it back then as hunting for ocean booty. After I had asked my parents or my dad at least because my mother who had been giving me the silent treatment for the whole week was teaching me a valuable life lesson. It was the best time to scavenge for these things after all and sometimes things that shouldn't be in tidal pools get stuck there...there was also the fact that angry at my mother who wouldn't give way to my selfish perfectly reasonable request and was the person I would normally do it with wasn't taking to me so I set out by myself. But anyways, I was walking along the shore wondering if the jellies I save remember who I am, if they told there kids about me , if I was a legend but, then I stumped my toe. I would like to say or even wish that the first thing I did was look at the perpetrator but no, I tried to calmly look around making sure that no one was around and dropped to my knees rolled around on the shore and started acting like I was dying. I'm sure I heard some sort of crunching noise but I was too in dept in my two man or should I say toe and Mistica death scene dialogue to pay any-mind to it. When I had finally gotten up I saw the fragments of the Fulgurite beneath me, in my fur and a unsalvageable state . Angry I frantically searched the surrounding area digging pits and using my wind to hastily blow off sand on anything that looked remotely branch-like ending up tired and full of tears. Stubbornly staying out until my father who came to find me did and took me home, albeit after falling in some of the pits that I dug and me getting scolded for that . After that my mother sat me down and asked what had happened she then told me that me being careless was partially why I didn't have anything to take care of and although it was a shame that I lost the fulgurite at least it wasn't something that I had painstakingly taken care of. At that time I had pretty much muted it out and was just glad for the warm hug and the fact that she was taking to me again. The morning after we found:

...although the most precious thing about it is the memory that it holds rather than how rare it is, it's the reason for the mantra.
