sser;; defiance.
show name;; we're covered in this scar tissue
name;; Rita (meaning pearl)
gender;; Mare
halter;; White with this heart symbol on the cheek strap in black if that's possible
age;; 8 years
height;; 16.3hh
aesthetic;; xxx little blood warningRita is a skittish mare. She's been through a lot in her life, and it shows in her often wary disposition. She's not mean or unfriendly, in fact she can be rather open, though it's easy for her to become suspicious and untrusting if someone gives her a reason to. Naturally nurturing and protective of foals, she'll readily put herself in harm's way if it means protecting others that she cares about. She hates being alone, and she needs the constant company of either her mate or her friends. She's not overly curious, ambitious, or risk-taking, and sometimes her timidness can make others take advantage of her. It's actually rather easy to push her around, and she'll rarely defend herself. The only ones she will protect are her offspring or her mate, and she'll do so fiercely. She's very organized and kept together as well, and she tries her hardest her understand and sympathize with others. This is why she tends to make a lot of friends, because others know they can rely on her to be there when they needs her.

personality;; if you'd met her a couple of years ago it's likely that you wouldn't even recognize this mare from the way that she is today. she's one of those horses that's been shaped by the world into someone completely different than who she had once been - and not necessarily in a bad way either. as a youth she was always very optimistic; the dreamer of impossible dreams who always held onto hope that everything would turn out exactly as it was supposed to. she always held a strong value for relationships and put her family before everyone else but truth be told she was likely more reliant on them than they were on her. there was just something about the thought of being along, complete isolation that terrified her completely. she could never deal with being by herself.
but like i said - the years changed this mare into someone different, leaving only the ghost of her former self to linger in the back of her mind. she likes to think that she grew up and learned that life isn't fair and not everything is going to turn out how we want it to. she built up walls around her heart so that no one could get in but somehow managed to retain her kind side. no matter how much she might try; she simply cannot bring herself to be cold towards those who do not deserve it. she considers her kindness to be her downfall but anyone who's met her will tell you the opposite. she doesn't let others into her heart but there's still plenty of kindness and compassion that comes out of it. one of her fatal flaws is that she tends to blame herself for everything; letting guilt eat away at her in the back of mind until she can barely stand it. she wants to save everyone, naturally she knows that she can't and not everything is going to turn out peachy keen but that doesn't stop her from trying. she's willing to carry the weight of the world for those that she cares about and she might not know it now but eventually that weight will crush her.

██████████████████
██████████████████ history;;what was to be the worst day of her entire life began about as normally as any other would. the familiar sounds of a crackling fire and some kids excitedly running about the campsite pulled reign from her sleep - the sun had barely risen but the early rising wasn't unfamiliar to the mare. for as long as she had been living, reign had been part of a very tight-knit group of travellers who made their way around the country in carriages; spending every night under the stars and occasionally stopping in larger towns or city squares to have a market or fair. this was the only lifestyle reign had ever known and she wouldn't trade it for anything. seeing that his partner was awake: reign's boy got up from his seat beside the small fire and approached to give her an affectionate scratch behind the ears. "good morning my lovely girl," he greeted her. joel was his name and he was reign's favourite person in the entire universe. he'd raised her since she was a foal and he was the one holding her reins when they travelled. he'd always tell her stories about the places they visited while they were going and he had a tendency to sneak a couple of sugar cubes from the supply that was meant to be used for cooking to treat her with. joel untied reign from the hitching post and lead her through the camp - probably headed towards the big field they had stayed beside to go for a morning ride. a few of the other travellers greeted them, offering reign a pat on the neck while the young children wove between her legs playfully. she'd long since learned to be gentle around the little ones. once they were away from the masses of carriages and had nothing but wide open spaces ahead of them, joel climbed atop a stump and from there - onto the tall mare's sturdy back. he had her lead rope in his hands as well as having them buried into her soft mane just in case. he squeezed her sides and clicked his tongue, urging the mare to go and she definitely didn't need to be told twice. reign's heavy hooves thundered loudly against the ground as they ran freely, wind whipping through her mane and his hair. it was moment's like these when they were both truly free. the group didn't plan to travel again until the next morning so joel intended to spend the day playing with his mare. they made their way down to a little pond and watched the fish for a while, played chase and swam around in the shallow bits. time slipped away from them both as the sky had begun to darken in seemingly no time at all. "about time we headed back, reign my girl," joel told the mare as he petted her forehead gently. she gave a snort and nudged his shoulder. he climbed onto her back once more and they began their walk back to the camp. reign knew something was wrong almost immediately. something in the air felt wrong, the sounds the smells they were all wrong. she swerved her ears nervously and joel must have noticed because he leaned forward a bit and petted her neck. "easy girl, what's wrong? he whispered soothingly. was was wrong? she couldn't figure it out until she looked to the sky and her heart almost stopped at the sight of black smoke bilowing skywards. joel frantically urged his horse on, his hands gripping her mane tightly as she soared towards the camp, her heart pounding in her chest. they returned to terrified screams and bright orange flames licking at the air. reign cried out in fright as her rider jumped down from her back and ran towars the flames. the mare tried to stop him, gripping the back of his shirt between her teeth but he pushed her back. "go! run away and don't look back! i'll find you i promise, but i have to help!" he cried desperately. she didn't want to leave him but every bone in her body was screaming at her not to go any closer to the fire. "please reign! i promise we'll be together again - i love you, sweet girl," he hugged her head to his chest and dashed through the wall of fire. reign made a final sorrowful cry as she watched him disappear from her sight. she followed his orders and ran back to the pond, the smell of smoke filling her nostrils. the mare waited and waited for days on end, hoping and praying with every fibre of her being - but she never saw joel again.
