Name: Vex (Aka Hexar)
Gender: Female
Personality:
Before anything, lets just set down that yes, vex is a hacker. She does not use it for her own good (mostly). She enjoys exposing scandals by important government and social officials, and she posts the evidence online, exposing the corrupt people. And, if a couple hundred dollars goes missing, it's their own fault for not being protected and being bad, right?
Alright, alright. I know what you're going to say. Ooh, its a hacker! They're bad and ugly cheaters that don't do anything on their own!" Yes, some hackers are like that, for personal gain. Vex, also known as her online alias Hexar, a play with the words Hex and Hacker, does code for a job. She works for a company making firewalls and security measures, part of why she is so talented with a keyboard and screen
. She is also incredibly stubborn, powering through nights without sleep at an unmoving code.
By day, average coder. By night, Hexar. Hexar is widely known for her stunts, like videos and pictures, screenshots, too, of hidden government or company scandals, such as a secret deal between shady characters, or a letter telling of a success of some operation or other, or a picture of a code that hacks peoples credit cards... Wherever there is internet crime, there is Hexar.
Short Story:
It was a dreary Sunday, in summer. Vex's footsteps, although soft, echoed between the tall Brooklyn buildings. The street was almost empty. Striding briskly, she inconspicuously checked around her, then dove down an alley and rolled behind a box.
She set up a tiny camera on the wall, more along the rows of boxes that lined the alleyway, and filled the space with evenly placed, 12 pinhole cameras usually used for button spying. She also stuck audio devices on, just in case.
Vex looked around, then strolled casually out, heading back home.
She had hacked into the email of a wealthy business official which was quickly losing money. Many people suspected of him consorting with... Shady others, but no one had been able to prove it. Now, as Vex tuned on her old computer and connected the camera with the monitor, she sat back, got herself some ramen, and ate while she stared at the screen.
Suddenly, a figure walked into the line of sight, and turned into the alley. Vex sat forward, nearly spilling the noodles out of the plastic bowl in her lap. Placing the unfinished meal to one side, she took a screenshot, magnified and sharpened I, and inspected it. Just in time, she remembered to hit the "record" button on her screen as she looked, with crimson eyes, at the face of the businessman.
Kicking back, Vex slurped up the rest of her food as she watched the screen.
Another viscet came out, holding a case. The two silently handed over their goods, the criminal, briefcase, the businessman, a thick manila envelope of bills. Neither thought to check the place for bugs, but even if they had, Vex was a master of camouflage.
When the two exited again, she stopped recording and saved. Then, logging onto the world wide web as Hexar, she uploaded the video to a friend, who posted it online under their name, but everyone knew who it was.
Dusting her paws off, Vex smiled as the comments and views rolled in. Another successful venture.
