Guardian Fox #196

Guardian Foxes are a species of canine closely related to Fennec Foxes. Fully grown, they tend to be about the size of an adult German Shepherd or Great Dane. Humans often keep these canines as companions due to their strange and mysterious powers, which include the ability to control the dreams of their owner using the mist that surrounds their eyes, paws and tail. Feathers, usually simply used to show off the Guardian's style, are frequently found on the animal's ears and tail. Their coats can contain any color or marking, their mists frequently found in any color except black. Black misted Guardians must have experienced something negative during their lifetime for their mist to be black, and frequently give their owners nightmares instead of positive dreams.

To adopt them, show me where they live as well as an extra of your choice.

-breeding note: there is a 25% chance of passing on horns.

║Name:║

Seytan (Sey-Tan)

║Gender:║

Male

║Home:║

He lives in the outskirts of a mild desert. More about it in his backstory.

★★★

║Backstory:║

He lived in the comfortably in the outskirts of a mild desert, where there was plenty of heat. But it was habitable, a lot more plants and trees, creating scare shade and cool grass to lay down in the morning. When he was getting ready to leave his home to become independent, things took a very horrifying twist.

His mother and twin sister died one morning during a drought, from lack of water. This left him on his own, and he needed water and food. His only hope was to journey in search of that. He left his home and promptly got lost in the vast desert.

After several days, he found a oasis under to a rocky outcropping. Hardy trees and sparse grass sprang all around it. It was drying up, but it would be fine for now. He stayed there, and by a stroke of luck, a very light rain came down. He saw it as a sign that good comes in the darkest of times. He continues to live there today, and people nearby swear on rainy days, red mist rises up from the oasis, dancing and curling in the drizzle.

★★★

║Story:║

Seytan remembered going to bed, thirsty and hot. He tossed in a fitful dream, over and over, only half asleep. The heat was gripping him in an uncomfortable grasp, and he couldn't rest. He turned on his side, and waited for dawn to come.
★★★

When the sun finally rose, he creep out in search of the morning prey. He didn't normally do this by himself, but he wanted his mother and sister to rest. He didn't have to go very far anyway. A dehydrated rabbit lay dead, unpicked by vultures. It would have to do, as prey was hard to come by in addition to water. He sank his teeth into dry pelt and meat of the poor rabbit and carried it back home. The sun was even higher, and he could clearly see everything now.

There, he saw a horrible sight. His mother and sister's mist was gone. He nudged his motionless mother and sister. He prodded at them with his paw. After a while, he sat down, and buried his nose into their pelt. Nothing could bring them back. Thoughts swirled in his mind about what he should do. He couldn't cry, as there was no spare moisture to do so. He dragged their bodies farther into their cave, leaving a trail of dust behind him. He licked their pelts clean with his dry mouth. There he sat, overwhelmed with grief until the next day.
★★★

As the sun peeked into the depths of the cave, he made a decision. He needed water, and where there was water there was food. He whispered a soft goodbye to his dead kin and dragged himself out of the cave. He turned to look once. He pushed himself three steps farther. He couldn't do it. He collapsed, the emotional strain too much. A whirling headache formed. He couldn't leave his sister and mother. Even if they were dead. There was too much love he had for them.

But he had to.

He got up, and stumbled across the desert. His need lead him. He blindly followed. Days passed, and he was extremely dehydrated. A raindrop fell. A single raindrop. Right onto his nose. It slid down and sinked into the crevices of his mouth. His heart danced at the thought of rain and he keep going.
★★★

After a little time, he saw a tree rising in the distance. A tree! He walked faster then he had done and reached the beautiful sight. A large puddle, which would normally be a sparkling oasis. But it was enough. He dipped his head, feeling as if he was in slow motion. His parched tongue reached down to the water, and he treasured each drop. Before long, he had drank his fill and settled under the shade of a rocky outcropping. He decided to stay, at least for a little while.
★★★

A drop fell on his nose. He looked up, and a light rain began to fall. He sprang to his feet, and danced. His mist swirling, paws light. It wasn't a custom among his kind to dance for joy, but he did so anyway. He did not know why, or for who. He was dancing for the rain, his sister, his mother, himself, the oasis, the rabbit. He was dancing for the universe. He was dancing for everything, and nothing.

★★★

║Song:║

When he finds the second drop on his nose to him dancing, I imagine this song. CloZee- Red Forest

★★★

║Poem:║

A drop, tuning dust into dirt,
Filling my eyes with wonder,
Life to be reassert
Of which was blundered

Joy overcomes my grief,
Dancing, spinning, whirling,
Beckons to me to come with it,
One finger outstretched, curling

I take the offer,
And uncoil my painful body,
My soul that became tired and still,
Is dancing with certain gaudy

★★★

(I don't do a lot of animals, kinda hoping it would turn out better)

Whew, this took me forever! The skulls symbolizes death, and the act of jumping over it symbolizes moving on from grief. But Seytan hovers over it, wondering if he should let go.

(Hey, so I had a thought and realized that I wouldn't actually ever use him. The winner can use all the art if they want, but I am dropping out.)

Fray
This name has some symbolism to it. As times his mind is a very chaotic place that it hard to get complete thought from.
---
Image
Biologically male, but gender identity means nothing to Fray. He has bigger things to worry about.
---
Image
Fray hasn't found a home yet, as he has some mental issues as shown by the stories. As he begins to heal he will find a home to live, but where that may be is unknown at this point in time.

I run for miles, away from what I've seen. What I suspect I've done, whatever that is exactly. It's bad though. What type of bad? I don't really know, but I do know that I have to keep running. The monster is behind me with every step, no, with me. I like that much less than following.

Is there a way to outrun it? Can you outrun something like that? Can you lose it? I don't know that either, but I have to try.

The ground gets softer under my feet, and small bushes begin to appear around me. I risk a glance farther ahead, taking my eyes off the ground directly in front of me. It's a marsh with tree roots growing out of the water. If I'm fast and careful I can get through without falling. I jump from root to root, running along some.

The trees and water seem to turn red, reflecting the sinking sun.

Sleep. A voice says in the back of my mind, but I can't. I have to stay awake. I have to keep running even though my muscles are burning and my mouth is dry. I can't stop for food or water until a need too, and I definitely can't stop for sleep. Running is the only thing that matters right now. Run away.

SLEEP. It says again, in a voice that isn't my own.

No. Run. I tell it. Run and don't stop.

+0+0+0+

Run, run, run.

Sleep.

No, run.

SLEEP.

No, not again.

The gritted dirt sifts through my paws, causing me even more difficulty running.

Run, run, run. Don't stop, don't stop, don't-

My breathing echoes through my head.
Something tries to escape.

Must keep it in. What is it?
Don't know, has to stay in.

You're losing your mind.

No, it's all right here.

Something's fallen LOOSE in there.

It's in place.

Rolling around on the floor.

No.

Yes. Rest, rest, rest.

No, if I rest I'll sleep.

Exactly, sleep.

Can't sleep. Not ever. Keep running.

You can't run from this.

Yes I can, only think about where I'm going.

No. You can't. Sleep and let your mind fix itself.

No, can't do that. Don't need to. Don't want to return.

You'll go bonkers.

Run, run, run.

*****
Dig, dig, dig.

Memories flashed through his head, searing the insides of his skull and letting adrenaline rush through his body. His nails scratched through the dirt below him, scraping it backwards in chaotic arcs.

Dig, dig, dig.

What was he running from? He didn't know anymore. He didn't know if he wanted to know.

♫Oh no, when the world is draggin' me down again♫

His paws kept churning, and the hole kept getting deeper.

Deeper.

Deeper.

Down.

Down.

Down.

Dig,

dig,

dig.

Another memory raced through his head, stronger, more vibrant.

Running. Wind. Grass.
The monster.

He began breathing faster, but the memory kept coming.

Wind whipping through his fur.

Dig, dig, dig.
Deeper.
Down, down, down.

The monster behind him. Gaining.

Dirt buried itself in his paws and under his claws.

The smell of the grass. Dry, hot.
Keep running.

♫But with the beast inside♫

The memory faded, rampaging around in the back of his mind. Subsiding. Waiting.
He began to dig slower, the windmilling motion winding down.

Sand now. Flying out behind his paws.
The smell of water.
The fear of the beast.

His paws sped back up, forming cracks in their surface.
A slow trickle began, quickly smearing on the surface of his paw.

Behind him.
Closing in.
Run.
Faster, get away.
Run, far from here.

Keep them away.
Don't remember them.
Don't remember.
Forget.

Falling.
The sound of water.
The smell of wet stone.
Rock walls flying upward.
The world going black.
Waking up in the forest.
Digging.

Forget, forget, forget.
The monster won't be there if you forget.
Forget.

Keep the monster away.
Fight.
Don't let it take over.
Fight it.

The memories subsided, leaving him panting, desperate for air.

What moved?
There, what was it?
Horns. My horns.

Fear seeped out around him, his body shaking. Weariness swept over him.

Don't wanna sleep.

He fell to the ground, unable to resist much longer.

Don't need it.

His eyes closed and his legs were pulled inward towards his body.

No.
Not again.
Don't want it.
Have to stay awake.
Don't wanna fight much more.
Cannot give up, cannot let loose.
Have to fight, have to keep fighting.
Keep it locked away, keep it locked away.
