"Hey, yo, Samus here. Meet The- ah, right, of course, children present... Well, meet Midas then.
He's my little reptilian friend, though he's a friend in the loosest of terms. There's not much to say about him except he's abnormally large, even for a super giant. That doesn't stop him from being an annoying little pest, mind you. His eyes are soulless pits, too. You'll probably see him clinging to on of my shoulders with his unusually strong grip.
I'm pretty sure he's partial to crickets, but I've seen him raid a nest and eat a live baby bird, so. I mean, it was tiny, but seriously... That's an image that won't be easily erased.
I'm a nomad so he technically needs to go everywhere I go, which is a decision that I regret to this day. I guess the only redeeming quality about him is that he grows on you, ya know. Kinda like a bad fungus."

"So you said you were looking for a little companion, right dear?"
At those words, I reluctantly look up from the cage I was peering in. A cute little corn snake was peering back up at me, surprisingly alert for so early in the day. Its little tongue flicked out in greeting before I turned away.
"A pet, yes. Something that's not like, dog or cat sized, but I'm not lookin' for a rodent neither." Knowing me I might end up accidentally eating it...
The shop owner kindly glances my way before slowly walking deeper into the shop. "I'm guessing you want a more active companion then? I have more reptiles you can look at."
I mull over the shawled lady's words as I follow the her. The bangles on her wrist and bandanna on her mane made her look like a fortune-teller. Curious. "Alright, show me watcha got. D'ya have any tarantulas by any chance, though?"
The sounds of the main shop die down as we travel to the reptilian section. The shop owner looks back at me with amusement. "You know, tarantulas are one of my more popular species. I'm fresh out this month."
I snorted at that fact. "Pretty surprising. I guess your customers don't fear too much, huh?"
A secret smile adornes her face as we slow down. In this little section, the lights are slightly dimmed. "I'd like to think so... Well, take your pick of any of these little ones."
"Noted. Can you show me ya more lively ones?"
Her tinkling laugh reaches my ears. "Well, I suppose you could look at the geckos. I know I have three leopard geckos left too, and those are pretty popular."
When I see what she's gesturing at, my ears perk up. I walk a bit closer and my eyes brighten with interest.
The first two peer up from their nests at me. Their twin banded gray-hazel eyes peer back at me, and the slightly larger one leaves its nest to come closer to the glass to inspect me as well. Whoa, they look like me almost!
My tail twitching behind me gives evidence to my budding excitement, but not wanting to seem to resolute in my decision quite yet, I smooth out my face into a contemplative mask. "So... How much would one of these guys be?"
A bit of a vender's gleam enters the shopkeeper's eye. "Well, since they are the last three I can discount their regular price down from thirty to twenty."
As she talks, my gaze trains on the last one, the biggest of the three. This one is dozing with its back turned towards me. He's bolder in color than the other two. "Will this one grow any larger?"
The lady's expression twists in apprehension, but I don't notice her hesitation. "Ah, yes, but are you sure he's the one you want?"
"Yea, I'd say so." The shopkeeper seems a bit resigned at the decisive tone, but I pay no attention as she leaves to go gather supplies and ring me up for the gecko.
I smirk a bit as I see the gecko's eyes open tiredly to reveal metallic orbs. "You are exactly what I was looking for."
----||||----
"That thing is demonic, Impari."
"Samus, then why did you buy him?"
I turn towards the banded viscet that I was currently lounged against in an attempt to keep away from that little pest. I had long since left the shop and my day has been going downhill ever since then. All because of that gecko, whose greeting consisted on pissing on me and then some. My accent starts to become apparent in my ire and I continue without replying. "Ah looked at so many reptiles though, even a snake! O' course I chose the meanest one with my luck." The gecko from his position on the ground actually hissed. I flinched back further into Impari's side.
"Maybe you should've gotten that snake then." Impari's attention turned towards his own snake that was coiling up his forearm. The mild mannered thing even bopped its nose against Impari affectionately. My frown deepened at that.
"Nah, man. I'm not copying you. You can keep the lovey-dovey relationship you have with yours to yourself."
"Whatever you want I suppose.... And can you stop leaning on me please?" My expression turns deadpan at his words, but I don't move. I simply sigh. "I knew there was something off about that whole shop. Anyone who wears bangles is bad news."
"Sure, sure. Well, look at it this way Samus- you two were made for each other. Maybe your dually negative personalities will cancel out." Impari's face stays completely serene as he speaks, but mine twists in disbelief.
"Seriously, Impari?!"
