One piece of art: by me....It's a bit weird, I'm sorry. But it's to the best of my abilities.
Short story OR Personality: Voodoo, hoodoo, or black magic. It is generally viewed as something nasty, bearing hexes or curses. This is not exactly true, and Clay, himself, can testify to that. For once, long ago, he was truly little more than clay. It was great sorrow that molded him, for the Ibo people faced certain extinction, evil spirits having come to steal their children. Every houngan and mambo were summoned, both far and wide, and a massive verver was made. Mange Loa was preformed, and each houngan and mambo was possessed by a Loa. Their people were in need, and their people must be protected. It was Ogu, the warrior Loa that was chosen. From the clay scatter about him, he crafted a vessel, his chosen species being that of a Viscet. A race which he favored greatly. Through the ritual, he gave life to the clay, the Loa granting the Viscet unmatched strength and a will far surpassing that of any natural born Viscet. This Viscet was to be a spirit eater. He was meant to devour any evil spirits sent to harm his people. Nothing comes without sacrifice, however. And though the mange Loa had been enough to summon the Loa, the sustained life force of Clay called for a price. Each houngan and mambo had their life cut in half. Several of them, who were already elderly, did not return from this ritual. However, it was through Clay that the evil spirits which plagued the Ibo people were driven away. Children were once again born without issue and lived to play in the village. He is a mystical beast, roaming about at night and devouring any evil spirits which seek to harm his charges. It has become customary to offer continued life support to Clay, so as his protection continues. Now, any who become houngan or mambo, must offer a portion of their life to Clay, extending his own life. This, as it seems, has resulted in a peaceful and very much enjoyed, life for the Ibo people. And they show their respects to him any time he is seen.
One extra: It should be known that the markings on his body are made by Ogu himself. If the markings begin to fade, Ogu will revisit Clay, and with a mixture of paints, refresh the markings on his beloved creature. These are the markings of a warrior, and Clay is, in fact, a warrior. It is with great loyalty and love that he protects his people. Should he ever die or, for some reason, not be with his people, the children would once more be at risk, thus resulting in the end of his people. He is not exactly a domesticated Viscet, but he is not wild either. Some strange mix of in between. He views the Ibo people as his pack, but he does not stay in the village when he sleeps. As for personality, Clay is brave and fierce, he may seem serious, though children hold a spot in his heart that may be due to his work. He holds nothing but an extreme desire to protect those he loves, knowing their future depends on him.
