Anyone would say that Lady Arletha Boudreaux is a gentlewoman of the highest caliber, with all the grace and poise that could be expected from a horse of her stature. Always calm, always collected, she has never been heard to raise her naturally quiet voice or even crack that imperturbable composure, with a self-control that seems to border on the unnatural. At the same time, however, no one could meet her and NOT notice that this impressive sangfroid comes with a rigid, aloof, and icy cold personality. No matter how impeccably polite and well-spoken, she tends to behave as though anything friendlier than the thinnest of smiles would break her pretty face.

This is not, strictly speaking, the full story. Behind that severe, apathetic facade is a caring and fiercely protective soul who would unflinchingly sacrifice just about anything for the sake of her family, herd, and loved ones. Her loyal, trusted followers qualify for this distinction as well, although they might not even know it. Ally, as she is known to her closest family, never fails to take responsibility for her actions as well as her whole herd, and she has no shortage of that wondrous virtue of patience. Her mind, when she cares to reveal it, is logical, analytical, and razor-sharp. At her best, she also displays a surprisingly dry, sarcastic sense of humor, and she can deliver the deadpan snark like a champion. The problem lies in the fact that she is incredibly unexpressive, almost to a fault, so her decisions, words, and actions are frequently perceived as overly cold and unfeeling regardless of how they were actually intended. It comes as no surprise that she is not exactly the smoothest talker around, and that's when she cares to talk at all. Her expression, when she is not actively schooling it into a smile or trying hard to appear friendly, naturally falls into a frigid and wholly unapproachable look of disdain, an unfortunate condition that horses have naturally assumed to be bad attitude. Consequently, the vast majority are intimidated or otherwise discouraged from even approaching her, and her real, close friends are few and far in between.

At the same time, her reputation as a cold-blooded lead mare is not entirely undeserved either. She is a firm believer in "survival of the fittest", and spurns those who expect her to give without receiving anything in turn. Arletha is not given to any excesses of emotion, but she does have buttons, and unfortunate are the ones who push them. She does not rage - rather, she sinks into a kind of tranquil fury, a long-lived, icy wrath that never burns itself out. She can seemingly deliberately jettison any last shred of compassion and mercy from herself, and she has an incredible memory for past wrongs and insults. The virtue of patience becomes a deadly weapon in her - after all, vengeance is a dish best served cold.
