What is a Trail Blazer?

Trail Blazers are spiritual entities that are guided by their tails. When born, Trail Blazers do not have a fiery tail, only the patch of gems on their shoulder. Depending on the gem color, the flames will retain that color as the form. That way, you can tell what color a TB's flame will be before it forms.
A Trail Blazer will wander the universe in the form of a figure of mist until it has found the person it was meant to be with. At birth, a TB is randomly paired with some human in the Galaxy. As they grow older, they start communicating over long distances to their human using telepathy, until they eventually grow their flame, which allows them to travel to their soulmate.
Trail Blazers treat their companion with respect and follow them around, acting like a scared-y cat around other humans. They only form a bond with that human, and will reject any other option of companionship, including a mate. After their companion passes, they travel the universe alone, refusing to grow close to anyone.

Flufflet was thinking about Shepard again. Shepard was a funny clown with cute hair and bright eyes. Flufflet walked over to the river and reflected on her surroundings. She had always loved Pine River State Forest with its tall, lush pine trees. It was a place that encouraged her to be herself. Then she saw something in the distance, or rather someone. It was the tall figure of Shepard. Flufflet gulped. She glanced at her own reflection. She was a cute, funny, trailblazer with blue fur and green eyes. Her friends joked and said she was a charming, courageous cloud. Once, she had even helped a little baby bird cross the road. But not even a cute person who had once helped a baby bird cross the road, was prepared for what Shepard had in store today.

The sky was cloudless today, making Flufflet feel lonely. Flufflet grabbed a flat rock that had been strewn nearby. She massaged it with her fingers. As Flufflet dropped the rock and Shepard came closer, she could see the kindly glint in his eye. Shepard gazed with the affection of an old dog. He said, in hushed tones, "Flufflet, I love you and I have since I met you. I know this is sudden, but I needed to tell you and ask you one thing. Do you like me?"

Flufflet looked back, feeling even more lonely. "Shepard, I dont know..," she replied. They looked at each other in silence. Flufflet studied Shepard's cute hair and bright eyes. "I-I think so." She said, looking away. Slowly, Shepard leaned in. He silently pressed his mouth to hers and kissed her. She stood there frozen until he pulled away. He looked away and went to leave.

"I'm sorry, Fluff. I shouldn't have done that." He whispered, using her old nickname.

"Why not, I liked it" I whispered back. "Puppy" She added, using his old nickname.

"Really?" He looked at her astonished.

She nodded. "Really."
