Blame is a coward but self-righteous
A funny little creature hiding out in me
Hate is power with a price tag
A funny little creature screaming out in me
Listen to me
Fear is a liar but he's been right before
If you fight your shadow, you'll get lost in a war
Ambitions a champ, but he's also greedy
Drunk or sober he always wants more
I always want more
I always want more
Lust is beauty in a body bag
A funny little thing that's screaming "Just use me!"

Day one
I yawned as the truck rumbled into place in the mustang pickup lot. I am here to pick up my very own mustang (For the next seventy-five days anyhow) to gentle and train for the Mustang Makeover! So exciting! I've only ever trained a horse 2-3 times before this, so I am crossing my fingers that it will go well.

As the truck jerked to a stop, I put it in park and climbed out. Seeing a lady standing next to the corrals I called out "Where do they want us to load?!", no response. I reached in and slid the key out of the ignition, slammed the door, and proceeded to walk closer to the lady. She turned her head away from the horses and waved as she saw me, "Hello!" She called out "You must be here for the makeover!"
"Yep, I am!" I responded "Do you know where we check in and load?"
"Iindeed I do!" She pointed to a white building a few yards away "That's check in, they will tell you where to load."
"Great thanks!" I smiled.
Quickly turning about, I half jogged, half sprinted to the small white building. Pulling open the door I walked in. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a small window and a few sheets of paper on the counter space in front of it, heading that direction I dug around in my pocket for a pen. Smiling at the man behind the window, I signed my info on the paper. I waited as the man behind the window pulled the sheet towards him, he glanced down to look at my info. passing me a hat he said, "Go ahead and draw your horse number please."
With my finger wound around each other by my leg and my eyes squeezed tightly shut, I slid my hand into the hat. Blinking, I read the number, "#3193."
"Alright Ms. Hannah Holt, Jill will show you to the corrals and point out your mustang. Good luck with him!"
As I spun about I saw the lady I spoke to earlier, meeting her outstretched hand with my own I said, "Nice to meet you again, I'm Hannah."
"Jill Sanderly. Right this way Hannah" nodding towards the door to my right. We walked out towards the pipe corrals and I watched the untouched mustangs shy away as I climbed up on to the second lowest rail. Jill climbed up beside my and pointed over into the middle of the herd. "That guy's yours."
My eyes traveled carefully over his body. About the same size as my current horse standing at 14.2 hands. Gorgeous Silver Dapple coat, with a wide blaze and four white stockings. "When and where do I load him?", swerving my gaze to Jill's face.
She quickly glanced down at her wrist, to her lime green swatch. "It's 8:30 now, so you can go ahead and load up now if you like."
I smiled back, "I'll go get the truck and trailer"
And so I did. Speed walking (Note: Almost running) back to my truck, I sprung in, jabbed the key back into the ignition and quickly twisted it. Not bothering with my seatbelt (I figured I'm only going a little ways), I pressed gently on the gas pedal after the truck roared to life. Weaving cautiously through the grounds I found my way to the loading area and backed in. Shutting of the truck once again and jumping down to the sandy ground again. I walked back to the trailer, I saw that my mustang was in the catch pen already and Jill was walking towards me. I flipped the trailer-door latch open and gently lowered it to the ground. After doing so I walked around to the tack room area of the trailer and popped the door, reaching inside I pulled out a burgundy rope halter and another one of the same color but nylon.I had read online that a lot of times, it was easier to get the rope halter on the horse to start with, but I had brought the nylon just in case. Ii carried the rope halter to the catch pen and climbed on to the rails. I watched my horse tap-dance and toss his head beneath me, in the pen. Glancing at Jill, I slung my arms over the rails and quickly caught his nose in the loop. With him jerking on me, I finally managed to tie the halter securely enough for the ride home. Since my truck was already backed to the catch pen entrance and was already open, the two men standing by opened the catch pen gate. I watched as the horse sniffed the edge of the trailer, eyeing the hay inside. Hesitantly he stepped onto the ramp and inside. Quietly and quickly we shut the trailer door so not to spook the horse.
Back in my truck a few minute later I waved goodbye with a smile, and prepared for the 3 hour drive back to my home ranch.

Day Two

New guy mainly stayed in the corner pen and adapted to his new surroundings today. I haven't decided on a name yet but I have some ideas. We will begin work on gentling him tomorrow.

Day 3

Two or thee horse-lengths away stands the mustang. I watched his brown eyes roll back and forth, watching me. We've been sitting like this for almost two hours after I first placed myself inside his large corner-pen. Every few minutes I try to inch closer and every few minutes he inches away. sighing, I stepped away from him and turned around. "No luck?" my friend Cindy asked.
I rubbed my eyes and responded, "Nothing. Not one. step. closer. in TWO hours! UGGGH!"
Handing me a small paper bag she said "Cookies."
"Mmm! Thanks, I'm staving!"
"Not for you silly! Those are for Bogart!" Nodding toward the horse, she said., "You've gotta keep working, I promise I'll bring you food soon. I'm running out to get something to eat anyhow, what would you like?"
After giving her my order (A double cheeseburger, fries, and sweet tea.), I went back to Bogart's pen. "Heeey boy, do you want to try a cookie?" I asked softly. He tosses his head and snorts. "Awwe c'mon now, you know you want to try it."
I held my breathe as he hesitantly steps forward. "That'a boy. Goood Bogart." I stepped two feet closer. "Easy now."
Stepping closer to me his eyes rolled. We're only inches apart now, slowly I reached my hand with a cookie in it, towards him.
I could feel his breath on my hands and then his whiskers tickling my palm. "Atta boy. Can Ii touch your face? hm?" I slid my other hand to his muzzle and began to slide it up his face. I grinned. "That's right!" I exclaimed softly.
"Wow..." Breathed a voice from behind me.
I quietly turned around, keeping a hand on Bogart. Cindy had come back, our lunch sitting a few paces behind her in the sand.
"You've been edging closer for a good 25-30 minutes since I got back. That was some nice work!"
"Thanks Cindy," I smiled, " I think that'll be it for tonight. I don't want to stress him out too much."
"I think that would be a good plan." She replied, smiling right back.

Day 4
I stepped into the shade of the tack room and sighed. It's been 103 Degrees F. all week and it's been horrid! I reached towards Bogart's papers, "Has a very strong desire to be heard and will rarely move, even if ridden, unless there is another horse with him."
"Hmm, I wonder how I'll work with that.." I reached towards a tack room wall and tugged our barn's lunge whip out of its place. "We might try this." I said speaking to myself. I had already planned ahead for this, I have borrowed a friend's mini horse to start to teach him to lead. It's still a horse even if it's little right? Grabbing the mini's halter and lead of the rack I headed out to the pens. "Hey Hercules! How you doin' buddy?" Ii giggled as Hercules (My friend's mini.) snuffled his muzzle against my palm. I patted his bay pinto neck as I stepped around and slipped his blue halter on. "Alright my friend, you've gotta help me out with something today."
We walked out of the stall together and headed across to Bogart's pen, which is right across from the barn. "Bogart, you ready to try something new?" I tied Hercules to the pen bars and stepped into the pen with a shorter lead rope. I chose to use the short lead because I figured it would be safer for Bogart if he got away from me. I cautiously walked towards him with the lead and sighed as he stepped away. "Hey now, we've been through this already! I'm just going to put the line on your halter." I left the halter on him so that I wouldn't have to wrestle just to get it back on him. Walking up to him again I started humming, hoping the sound would calm him, "Hmhm hmhm hm hm hm hmm", he stood still this time and I was standing next to him again. I grinned and began to tie the lead to his halter. "Atta boy Bogart." I said, patting his sturdy neck.
Once the halter was tied I walked towards the gate again. I could hear his hoof-steps behind me, following me. Ii carefully opened the metal latch and opened it wide enough for him to get out. As he saw Hercules, he stepped a bit faster toward the mini. I closed the gate and brought him to Hercules. "Alrighty, let's try without Hercules first, shall we?" I stepped a couple feet away from the mini and Bogart followed. Hoping that the paper was false, I tried a few more feet. "Ennouhhh! Ouch, thanks for that mister!" My arm had jerked roughly as Bogart came to a planted halt. "Guess not huh?"
He snorted and I led him back to the mini. Un-tying Hercules, I took a few steps again. No problem. "Well this is a road bump, isn't it?" It was more of a statement than a question. My mind buzzed with possible fixes as I led them both down to the round pen, carrying the lunge whip with us. I opened the green round pen gate and let the horses step inside together, then shutting us in and walking to the center. I decided to leave Bogart's lead on him, wrapping it gently around his neck. coming back into the center, I lifted the whip and flicked it a little towards is hind quarters. He snorted, tossed his head up and proceeded to trot forward a few strides. "Good boy! Now see, you have to learn that it's okay to be independent." I slipped a cookie out of my pocket and let him gobble it out of my hand. "I promise that even without another horse near you, nothing will attack or hurt you."
I flicked the whip a bit more, and clucked at him. He began to trot forward. "Yes! That's right bud."
"Whoa Bogart, now let's try it leading."
I came back to his head an un-wound the lead, holding it steady in my right hand, I gently flicked the whip at his hind legs.
As I began walking, I continued to flick the whip a bit. Encouraged by the whip behind him, Bogart began to walk forward again. "Good boy Bogart. That's enough for today!" I said as I walked back over to where I had left Hercules. "Alright boys let's go home." I told them, as we walked back up the hill, to the barn and pens.

Day 5
"A-A-A-ACHOO!" It's been humid all day, raining off and on and breezy ALL. DAY. LONG.
I knew I had to go work with Bogart today but I can't say I was going to enjoy it. I was the only one at the barn today. Perfectly understandable seeing as no one would want to ride in this weather. I shook my head as I walked across to Hercules's stall. "Hey buddy, ready to come help Bo?" I asked as I slipped his halter and lead on.
I picked up a small jog coming out of the barn, heading to Bo's pen with Hercules. "Bo! You want to come practice?" I asked, entering his pen with the lead. I giggled as he snorted and backed away. "That question was just out of courtesy, you're coming to practice."
I stepped towards him again and began to tie the lead onto his halter. He's gotten so much better. "I think we'll graduate you to a big boy halter soon, what do you think?" He snorted and tossed his head, "I guess I'll take that a yes huh?" I laughed.

The round-pen gate hinges squawked in protest when I pushed the gate open. I had brought down a large red rubber ball, a plastic bag on a pole, a lunge line, and pool noodle earlier. Also, I had also set up a streamer tunnel.
I slid Hercules's halter off and untied Bo's lead, waving them away after so that they could investigate the objects.
I stood for a few minutes, just watching the boys sniff at all the things I had brought down.
Walking quietly over, I picked up the ball and tossed it gently towards Bo. I laughed as he leaped backwards, snorting and eyes rolling. "Not too many of those on the range huh? It doesn't bite I promise."
I stepped forward so that I was standing next to his body. I spoke to him softly all the while rolling the ball towards him. When it got close enough I bumped it against his legs a couple time. "Atta boy."
I gently bounced it up and down against his legs. "Good boy! You can be done for today."
I gathered up his lead along with Hercules and led them both back up to the barn for the end of the day. Feeding time.

Day 6
Review of everything so far.

Day 7
Day of rest for Bogart and I.
