Backstory (less than 500 words):
A small floc sat shivering in a red and blue dotted blanket. It's eyes were shut and it's nose occasionally twitching.
A woman and man where in the same room and where bussing talking. " You say you found it at the side of the road? " the woman asked, brushing back her red hair.
The man nodded as he fiddled with a cup of coffee in his hands. " Yes, just laying there clutching this key " the man said, indicating to the key on the table. " At first I thought the fella was dead, run over, though something made me want to check it was okay "
The woman raised a hand to her cheek and sighed. " Good thing you did, or the poor thing might of actually been run over or killed! " she replied, a smile appearing on her face as she turned her head to look at the floc. " I wonder where his parents are, he looks like a baby "
The man nodded again. " Hmm...perhapes he was ill and the mother abondened him... " he suggested before the woman shook her head.
" Or his parents where caught by trappers...What if they where shot?! And that key was a present the parents gave him? "
The man thought for a moment. " I don't think animals give presents to their young, dear "
" Salben does! " a small voice piped up. The two adults turned their heads to look at a girl round about 4 in the doorway to the room.
" Salben gives us dead things, like the mouse he gave you daddy! " the little girl said. Salben was a black cat with white spots on. And the girl's name was Sam, the child of the two adults.
Sam then wondered over to the floc and picked it up, hugging it. " And this is Argilla! " Sam explained as the little floc's eyes opened to reveal murky grey eyes.
" Sam, we might not be keeping...Arfilla did you say... ? " the father said.
" Argilla dear, Latin for Clay, remember? " the woman correct.
" We are keeping Argilla! Argilla said he has no home! " Sam suddenly shouted at her parents, who looked startled. " Argilla is lonely and we can give Argilla a home! "
The parents looked at each other for a breif second before the father slowly replied.
" I....suppose...that...Argilla can...stay... " he said slowly, uncertainty in his voice.
As soon as he said that the little floc, now named Argilla, licked Sam's face, causing the girl to giggle. " Argilla's happy! "
Since that day Argilla and Sam grew up together. Though sadly, when Sam was 14 her parents where killed in a car crash, leaving Sam to be left in the care of her Aunt Opera and Uncle Ash and making Argilla sad because of Sam's depression. Though at 15 she completely recovered from the loss and has returned to normal, making Argilla happy once again.
