Floc #: 105
Floc Name: Argilla Fango ( means Clay Mud in Italian )
Backstory (less than 500 words):

A small floc sat shivering in a red and blue dotted blanket. It's eyes were shut and it's nose occasionally twitching.
A woman and man where in the same room and where bussing talking. " You say you found it at the side of the road? " the woman asked, brushing back her red hair.
The man nodded as he fiddled with a cup of coffee in his hands. " Yes, just laying there clutching this key " the man said, indicating to the key on the table. " At first I thought the fella was dead, run over, though something made me want to check it was okay "
The woman raised a hand to her cheek and sighed. " Good thing you did, or the poor thing might of actually been run over or killed! " she replied, a smile appearing on her face as she turned her head to look at the floc. " I wonder where his parents are, he looks like a baby "
The man nodded again. " Hmm...perhapes he was ill and the mother abondened him... " he suggested before the woman shook her head.
" Or his parents where caught by trappers...What if they where shot?! And that key was a present the parents gave him? "
The man thought for a moment. " I don't think animals give presents to their young, dear "

" Salben does! " a small voice piped up. The two adults turned their heads to look at a girl round about 4 in the doorway to the room.
" Salben gives us dead things, like the mouse he gave you daddy! " the little girl said. Salben was a black cat with white spots on. And the girl's name was Sam, the child of the two adults.
Sam then wondered over to the floc and picked it up, hugging it. " And this is Argilla! " Sam explained as the little floc's eyes opened to reveal murky grey eyes.
" Sam, we might not be keeping...Arfilla did you say... ? " the father said.
" Argilla dear, Latin for Clay, remember? " the woman correct.
" We are keeping Argilla! Argilla said he has no home! " Sam suddenly shouted at her parents, who looked startled. " Argilla is lonely and we can give Argilla a home! "
The parents looked at each other for a breif second before the father slowly replied.
" I....suppose...that...Argilla can...stay... " he said slowly, uncertainty in his voice.
As soon as he said that the little floc, now named Argilla, licked Sam's face, causing the girl to giggle. " Argilla's happy! "

Since that day Argilla and Sam grew up together. Though sadly, when Sam was 14 her parents where killed in a car crash, leaving Sam to be left in the care of her Aunt Opera and Uncle Ash and making Argilla sad because of Sam's depression. Though at 15 she completely recovered from the loss and has returned to normal, making Argilla happy once again.

Floc Name:
Meer Blume
(German for sea flower)
(Goes by Meer)
Image
Backstory (less than 500 words):
Many stories begin with a misfit protagonist. Someone who stands out in a way that makes them unappealing to the common masses. Meer's tale is one of these stories. She was obviously different, even from the start. Flox and water don't get along very well, this is a fact well known. With their levitating abilities and flailing swimming technique, the Flox just don't really agree with the stuff. So to be born part Anglerfish, well, that was quite the conundrum. But, unlike most misfit characters, Meer is comfortable with the talents and physical traits she was given. Well, she was after a little adventure!

When she came into the world it was with all feet running, or floating as Flox do. She lived her young life to the fullest, always exploring and trying new things. It was hard to do things with other flox though. Sure lots had quirks, but none happened to be practically half fish! So it made it difficult for her to play with the other young Flox. Which of course led to her going on her escapades alone, preferring her own company to the teasing jibes of others. Finally on one of her solo adventures (searching the beach she lived by for shells during the night), she stumbled upon a shocking scene. A human child lost on the sandy hills, wandering hopelessly through the dark. What was he doing here? She needed to get him to the safety of adult humans! She didn't know what to do though, as a toddler he might not do as she asked (telepathically), until she remembered about her esca (the light dangling from her head). Flox didn't need light to travel, as the kept their eyes closed at her stage and navigated around using their psychic abilities, but humans always needed it and moved towards it.

With this in mind she went near the child attracting his attention with the luminescent organ and causing him to toddle in her direction. Like the Anglerfish she shared traits with, she drew him to herself. And reminiscent of a will-o'-the wisp she lead the boy to a beach-house. Pulling him to herself with her light she banged on the door, waking the humans. When they came out, they saw the child and quickly rushed him inside. She turned to leave but stopped when she heard one of the humans address her. "Thank you, for saving this boy." A simple thanks but she knew then, her talents were important. Maybe she was strange, but good golly she far from useless. And from then on she loved her attributes and abilities, a testament to who she was.

Floc Name:
Aoi, which means "Blue." Traditionally it is pronounced "Ow-ee," but this Floc
pronounces hername "Ay-oh-ee"
Backstory (less than 500 words):
Aoi dashed through the halls, desperate not to be seen. Not that there were
many people around anyway, but you never know.Security guards may still be
lurking around any corner. Aoi lived atan aquarium. Not as part of a display. No.
Aoi sort of... Squatted there. She wasn't invited or anything. It's just where she
decided to live.

Contrary to what you might thing, living at an aquarium isn't as fun as it sounds. Not
only do you have to worry about the security guards, there's also the biologists,
caretakers, school field trips, tourists, and the occasional visitor who goes in the
"employees only" section of the aquarium. Also, if you slept in the wrong spot, you
might end up getting fed to the fish, and that wouldn't be good.

Aoi sensed around one of the exhibits. The clownfish one, the thought. It was hard to tell. All fish felt the same to her. Aoi sighed. Lately she had been thinking about leaving the aquarium and finding a new home. Maybe a smaller one with less people visiting it every day. It wouldn't be that hard to move. It's not like Aoi had any belongings. She didn't know why she hadn't moved yet. It wasn't like she had any attachment to this place. It was decided then Aoi would leave tonight. She just had to find a way out. The front doors were locked, so that was a no. Not that she could get them open even if they were unlocked. The employee entrance was locked, too.

Unable to find an exit, Aoi headed down a hall she had never explored before. She hoped there would be a way out ahead. Aoi walked for what seemed like a long time. She sat down next to a tank for a rest, feeling the cold water against her back. Slowly, she felt a strange aura come closer and closer. It felt similar to hers, but yet somehow different. A name went through her head.

Angler fish

Aoi studied the aura for a while. There were so many interesting things about the angler fish. Some like her, some not. Maybe Aoi would stay for a while longer.

floc #: 104
floc name: Ace

Image
leave behind
your sadness
and release
the light
from within.

ace's backstory:

I took my last breaths in darkness. My life flashed before my eyes. My parents, who left me when I was a child without a word.. the betrayal of my best friend..
They say that these moments of flashbacks are for you to see and determine whether you were satisfied with your life. Was I happy with my life? No, I wasn't, at all.

Then I closed my eyes for the last time.

I didn't know I would wake again, but I did. I found myself in a world of pitch black, floating amongst shimmering orbs. Inspecting them, I saw blurry images on each of them.

Reaching out a paw, I touched one.
This one held the image of my parents. I hated them.. for leaving me.
With a blinding flash of light, I had what I thought to be an insight. Flashes of past events.
My parents having a discussion, serious expressions on their faces.
My mom, in bed, her face deathly pale.
My father, flowers in hand, kneeling down at a grave.
And lastly.. two graves, side by side.

I felt a twinge of remorse and tears blurred my eyes. My parents.. they'd loved me. They hadn't left me voluntarily after all. It all made sense now.. the pills I found scattered on the ground of their bedroom.. the many times a mysterious man with a white coat had visited, equipped with metal tools.. the increasingly weary looks on their faces.. this was why. My mother had caught an incurable disease, and passed away. And my father died of sadness shortly after. But they had arranged for me to be told that they had simply left on a trip. They hadn't wanted me to be buried in sorrow - they'd wanted me to be happy.

I found myself in the expanse of anti-matter again, manoeuvring through those moments of the past.
I nudged another one - my ex-best friend's orb.
There were more flashes. Both of us having fun, laughing.
Her, at home, being hollered at by her family.
Running away, sitting in a downpour of rain. Tears streaming down her face.
Us again, having a fight. Me, mad at her for not being there when I needed her.

…I didn't know. I didn't know how much trouble she'd been through. I'd only thought about myself.
The last picture depicted her crying at my own grave.
…She had still cared about me. No matter what.. She was still my best friend. And I was hers.

I could feel my time running out. I smiled, droplets falling from my eyes. I'd found my salvation. Perhaps, in another life.. I could be happy.
I would hold out those happy thoughts in front of me, guiding me.
Just like an anglerfish.

A year later, a floc was discovered sleeping in a meadow. He had no memory of his past, as well as no clue as of how he got there. When asked what his name was, he replied: "Ace."

floc: 102

Postby Phione Mango » Sat Jul 05, 2014 11:04 pm

Image

Floc number: 102

Floc name: sandy

Back story:
SHe loved the beach. That was where he was, on the hot sandy floor. Grainy gold stretched out around him with the sea breeze blowing back his ears as if they were flaps. Taking a sprint, he jumped into the air to ride the cold winds.

this is the life! Best place ever, I wish I could live here forever, and it’s so great that the beach is so empty! I wish I could just ride these air currents forever, into this sunset! “Woohoo!” I think “yay!” I accelerate into the air and playfully do a loop-the-loop.

The floc then skimmed his body over the water, closing his eyes gently to relish it all.

“Now for the best part” think I, and dive into the water, I don’t like to boast, but after l of my practice I can do this with ease, and feel even better when no one is watching me. Doesn’t everyone do things better when no one is watching you? My sight is clear under water, and as I get deeper down my light provides easy way to see. I don’t think I would like to be any other floc hybrid than angler fish hybrid.

At last he saw what he was looking for, pearls. Pearls were his living and it was one he could do effortlessly with his light to guide him. Clams, clams, clams, they were all around a ship wreck he had found only two days before. There was no completion either.

yes.

side note: am not verry happy with this story, had major writers block.

It was incredibly painful and difficult to choose between the flox in this litter. They are all very lovely. In fact, it was so hard that it took me the time from when this litter was posted until now just to choose which one to adopt. I have chosen Floc #103, the lovely grey with rainbow streams and aqua lights.

O C E A N -D E E P
For this dark and beautiful girl, I needed to choose a dark and beautiful name, so I chose Oculto Sombra, which means "hidden shadow" in Spainish. She would be called Soma for short, but only if you would like to make a lifelong enemy. She usually allows people she likes to call her "Oculto."
I decided to name her "hidden shadow" for her grey color and because anglerfish live deep in the water, where there is no natural light, only shadow. They are hidden from view, except for their glowing lure. Also, I thought the name Oculto Sombra had a rice ring to it, don't you?

F R I E N D S H I P
Oculto Sombra grew up on an island in the middle of the ocean. She learned early on that swimming was not a good idea. It was hard to keep her head above the surface, and the water felt cold, and tingly, and wrong when it seeped into her keyhole. Nevertheless, it was lovely. She loved nothing better than to hover at the shore and smell the sea. Its changeability captivated her. It could be calm one minute, and the next, a squall could fill the air with peals of thunder and drops of heavy rain. There was one thing that never changed; the water was always cold and shallow. She wondered if it was ever deep and dark, and if it was, what it would be like down there. She pictured strange creatures: a transparent version of the seashell she found yesterday, adorned with slender tentacles that pulsed and flashed with light. A soft, foldable rock, with flaps of rubbery material that bent, thrusting it through the water. A hardened version of her favorite dried flower, moving along the sea floor with tiny feet, its back wrinkly with warts.
All was dreamlike in Oculto’s mind until the arrival of Iria. Oculto’s first meeting with her went like this:
Oculto was having an uneventful morning, smelling and listening to the sea, when a splash echoed through the air. She’d missed the reason why, but a little bit after, a seabird catapulted out of the water at breakneck speed. Oculto stared in awe as the bird free-fell into the water, soared up again, and repeated the process several more times. After a little while, the bird came ashore. As soon as she saw Oculto Sombra, her eyes widened and she shook her wings nervously, little water droplets falling to the ground. “Are you a floc?”
Oculto hesitated, then nodded. I am Oculto Sombra, she transmitted into the seabird’s mind.
The seabird began to circle her, nudging her fur occasionally. “I’ve never met a floc before. I’m Iria.”
Oculto smiled slightly. Iria’s beak made the name come out slightly songlike, like wind whistling on a cold winter’s day, that moaning, melodic sound not quite like somebody breathing. Iria, she transmitted, trying to get the sound exactly right.

From that day, the two were the best of friends. Iria’s sassy curiosity kept Oculto’s dreamy dilly-dallying in check, and vice versa. They would talk about so many things, Iria more so than Oculto. “The sea is beautiful and jumping with fish today,” she would say, and Oculto would nod.
One day Oculto brought up a subject herself. The sea… is it ever deep and dark?
Iria paused. “Very far away, it is.” She seemed to be avoiding something. Finally, she decided to bring it up. “My family… they tried to dive too deep, and they drowned.”
Oh. I… I’m so sorry. Oculto nudged her friend’s feathers. We can be alone together.
Iria gave her a watery smile. “Together?”
Together.

Floc #: I am applying for 103, I hope you enjoy my form.

Floc Name: I would name this floc Artemis, after the Greek Godess.

    Backstory:
"It rained that day. I remember it clearly. The way the storm clouds rolled in over blue skies, and began to slay the white puffs that were there, driving the beautiful creatures away from the sky, and taking over. A flash of a yellow sword, along with a booming battle cry, came from said storm clouds, and I watched simply. I had always loved the rain. The thunder and lightning too. They were serene, and calming to me, and I watched. I just wished that the rain could have continued.

I was young, just a child, and I sat among the deep hues of the world, as the rain fell, with my back against the damp bark of a tree, the cold of the early morning settling in. It was a quick shower, and the rain stopped, giving way to beautiful rays of golden sunshine, breaking through the clouds, and drying off all of the moist foliage, to a crisp dry, crumbling sort, by the time it reached late afternoon. I soon sat among the branches of a yew tree. I soon fell into a peaceful and lasting slumber, the world settling around me in a feel much like a soft lullaby, that my mother would hush to me each night as I slept.

I woke up, feeling nothing but sore heat, and flames around me. Burning talons lashed and licked at the tree, goading me from my spot, as I watched helplessly. I clambered up the falling branches off the tree, in a flurry of panic, hoping desperately that I would not fall and perish in the flaming, clawing beast that was rattling at its chains below me. I got the the top, and peered out, and saw the terrible sight. The beast had captivated the forest. The whole thing was taken over by the vicious hand of fire, as it ravaged, with no master. I ran, scampering over the rough treetops, as I leapt elegantly. I reached a sudden break in the grip of the terror, and saw a river, leading out of the forest, to somewhere else. I thought not of my family, nor my livelihood, just my life, and I fell.

I swam down that river for what seemed like days, but it cant have been more than a couple of hours in all truth. I reached a large estuary and fell flat on the waters edge, weeping softly about the life I had left behind. I would never find out quite what happened to the people I cared about, but I knew they would always be in my heart, and it was this thought that rose me up from that spot and willed me to carry on walking.

I soon, just after dawn, it seemed, reached the end of my trail. A beautiful beach, with golden sands, crystal clear rock pools and beautiful glimmering seas met my eyes. There were caverns and caves all around and that was when I knew.
    This was home."
