Week one - Atlas 'Halter Training'

"Dad, come on we have to go see him!” I say excitedly as I run into the kitchen. “We are a day late and he will probably hate me now.” I say as I sit down on the stool. “I have been thinking of names and I think an ‘A’ name will fit him well.” I added as I stuff my face with oatmeal, listening as my dad rambled on about the barn and everything. “Okay great chat I have to go change so I can go so him.” I say as I run upstairs and quickly change into riding pants and a plain white tee, I slipped on a pair of grey vans and threw my hair in a ponytail. I grab my phone as I close my bed room door behind me. “Okay come on dad!” I shout as I ran out of the front door and climbed into my dad’s pick-up truck, he came out soon after me.
As we showed up at the stables I was getting really excited and was nearly jumping out of my seat. “Calm down Parker. He isn’t going anywhere.” My dad said to me. “I know but I have not met him and I love him already.” I say as I literally jump out of the car. “See you later on dad, Love you.” I say as I close the truck door. I slung my bag over my shoulder and walk into the barn looking at the numbers on the doors as I passed by them. I found a sheet telling us where our horse was, mine was in pasture 8. I walked through the barn and passed pastures numbers 1-7 and found number 8. He was gorgeous a gruella color with a white blaze that covered his eye. “Atlas. That’s his name.” I say aloud as I clicked to him, wondering if he would come. I slowly unlatch the gate and walk over to him. Atlas seemed pretty calm but I kept making slow movements because it said on his paper that he gets spooked by fast movements. I slowly stroked his face and as I did slipped my bag off my shoulder and took out a vibrant red halter. “Time to halter train you, Atlas.” I said as I slowly slip it over his head. I clipped it under his chin and his nose flared a bit. I pulled my arm away and backed away, which was a mistake because he reacted and began running off, bucking and rearing and bouncing everywhere. I stood back and watched with a smile on my face at his spunk and friskiness. “You will get used to Atlas.” I said to the mustang. “We are going to become great friends.” I added and took out a notepad from my book and out a small check by ‘Put halter on mustang.’ I stood there watching as he continued to buck and rear and run around everywhere. ‘This is going to be an exciting few months’. I thought to myself. word count - 505

Week two - Bridle and Trail training

I stretched as my alarm clock went off and quickly got out of bed, excited because I get to see Atlas today. I changed into a plum pair of riding pants and a plain white tee shirt. I ran down stairs and grabbed a breakfast drink out of the fridge. "Good morning, dad." I said as my dad cam out of his room stretching. "I am super excited to see Atlas today I really need to work on him getting used to the bridle and maybe even get him used to having a saddle on his back." I told my father as I unscrewed the lid to my chocolate drink. I drank it as quickly as possible slipped a pair of old shoes on instead of boots since I was not getting in the saddle today. I threw my hair in a pony tail and quickly brushed my teeth. "Dad, Come on lets go!" I shouted as I cam hurdling down the stairs again.
As my dad pulled down the dirt road to the stables I could not hold in my excitement and literally jumped out the car as my dad stopped, "See you later!" I said as I waved good bye to him. "Call you around lunch time!" he hollered back. I slung my bag over one shoulder and walked into the stables, I tripped on a loose piece of tack as I was getting close to Atlas' stall and he had a total freak out. "Whoa, Whoa. Calm down boy." I said as I slowly raised my hands to try and calm the freaked out mustang. "We need to work on that too, But quick movements scare most horses." I told him as I patted his neck. He had gotten used to having his halter on but he never had a bit in his mouth and we needed to work on that. I clipped on his lead rope and lead him out of the stall and through the stables letting him recognize all the horses. As we got to the arena I stopped him in front of me and slipped off his halter. I pulled the bridle out from behind my back and slowly slipped it over his head. He pinned his ears back as I tried slipping the bit into his mouth, I did it quickly and jumped back to let him get used to it. He shook his head a bit and jumped around wanting it out of his mouth but that was to be expected of him. After messing around trying to get the bit out of his mouth he finally tired himself out after about forty-five minutes and came walking towards me, heaving. "Good, Atlas." I told him and rewarded him with taking the bridle off of his head and replacing it with the halter, He also got a carrot. "Lets go for a walk through the trails so you can get familiarized with them all before I even try putting a saddle or girth on you."
