Story/poem: [It's a poem about a certain country/the city this mare is named after [because it is a place near and dear to me], and it's got some parts in a different language. First part is a child speaking, second is her mother responding, third is daughter's response, last is Mother.]
"Mama,
Ye kya jaagha hai,*
Where the sun's bright roshni** never seems to slip under the horizon?
Where the pine forests meet the beautiful lakes and streams?
Where the earth is raw and vibrant with culture?
Kyu wo mujay batharethe que ye aacha jaagha nei hai-***
When the cool nights are warmed by the embers of a fire,
When the sea washes up to its beautiful shores?"
"Ay, meri beti,**** it is because they show us as a state in turmoil.
As a crumbling country that will soon become into chaos.
Iskii roshni bouth bright hei, maghar***** they show our night bombings.
Iskii forests aur lakes tho bouth magical hei, maghar****** they only see that it is the place where the terrorists reside.
Iskii lougho tho bouth special hei, maghar ******* they show them as all cold blooded killers and as uncouth."
"Tho pir, Mama, hamari Karachi bahaar se ek cheez laagtha hei, maghar aandar se pyaari?" +
"Gii, meri beti, hamari Karachi tho ek raaz hei, sirruf brave kye le." ++
* What place is this,
** light
*** Why did they tell me that this is not a nice place?
**** Oh, my daughter
***** Its light is very bright, but
****** Its forests and lakes are very magical, but
******* Its people are very special, but
+ So then, Mama, our Karachi (a city) looks like one thing from the outside, but beautiful from inside?
++ Yes, my daughter, our Karachi is a secret only for the brave to find.
