.:{Name}:. Eva
.:{Meaning}:. Eva means "life" in Greek, and the reason I picked this name was- well, let me just explain. This girl reminded me of the story of the "Golden Touch." In this story, a king, King Midas, gets the power of the "golden touch" meaning everything he touches turns to gold. I remembered he had a daughter in this story, and that when she runs to hug her father, she gets turned to gold too. Looking it up, I found that the daughter's names was Zoe, which means "life." However, one of my friends is named Zoe as well, and I didn't really want to name a JMD her same name. So, I went looking for other names that meant "life" so this JMD could have a small connection to this story. I found Eva another greek name that means life, and so I found the name of this JMD.
.:{Personality}:. Cold:Ever since the loss of her family, Eva has hardened her heart and shut out any forms of love from her now stone cold heart.
Lonely:Though she may be cold, some part of Eva still longs for the family that was taken from her so young.
Cautious:Always careful to not use her powers, since that fateful day....
.:{Story}:.I was a strange JMD, even from birth. Born in a small village in Greece, so very long ago, my mother knew there was something... Abnormal about me, even from birth. Though I didn't find out what it was until I was about five. I had asked to tag along with my father while hunting, and he had complied, as long as I didn't get in the way. We had been waiting, silently in the bushes, while my father waited for the herd to pass, so he could shoot at the crippled doe.
"Father, the herd's so big!"
"Shh... Eva be quiet. If the herd here's you, they'll flee and there'll be no dinner."
"Oh. Ok. I'll stop talking."
My father nocked his big bow as we saw the doe in the middle of the herd. But what we didn't know was that something else was stalking the deer. At the same time my father let his arrow fly, a large cat- I'll never really know exactly what kind- leapt out of the bushes at the limping doe. Knocking the doe down, about to deliver the killing blow, when my father's arrow struck in it the leg. The predator whipped its head our way, snarling, and began to run towards us. Leaping at my father, who yelled: "Eva, run! Get away from here!"
I had screamed, frozen in place, terrified for my father, terrified of the beast, too, petrified to run, when my jewel unleashed a blast of power at the cat. Hitting it, time sped up for the cat, aging it before our eyes, until it was simply a pile of dust, blowing in the wind. My father stood unharmed, though shock was in his eyes as he looked at me. "Eva... We'd better get home."
My mother had displayed shock at first, then looked at me. "Eva, you have to learn to control this abnormal power of yours. You could kill someone with it, especially if they surprise you, as you seem to have no control over it. Please Eva. You have to learn."
What I didn't know was that as the years wore on, as I tried to suppress my powers, they simply grew stronger, more lethal. I didn't know... I didn't know what they could do. It was all my fault.
"Come on Eva, hurry up!" My older sister called to me, "You're being a slowpoke!"
"Doesn't- The- Birthday- Girl- Get to- Decide what she wants to do?" I puffed, running up the hillside after her, my birthday laurel dropping over my eyes, and the little bells my baby brother had decided to tie on my tail making much of a racket.
"Nope! Not since Mother told me to get you out of the house while they prepare!"
"That's no fair!"
"To bad, so sad."
"So what are we going to do?"
"I"m going to race you through the woods to our house. Winner gets the first piece of cake."
"Doesn't the birthday girl get to do that?" I pretended to be slightly annoyed at her, though I really didn't care. Of course, she had an huge advantage in racing, as she was much older and more athletic then me.
She stuck her tongue out at me, "On your mark... Get set... Go!" Then she and I raced off, though I was being left in her dust. Then, I had a wonderful idea. Narrowing my eyes at my sister, my jewel glowed slightly and I slowed time around her, effectively slowing her down. I then sped up time around myself and zoomed past her, sticking my tongue out at her. Removing my powers off her, she shouted (from behind me, I may add), "That's cheating!" She caught up to me though, as I came to a dead stop in front of our village.
"Eva? What is it?"
"Bandits." I whispered, horror-stuck. Coming to a stop, my sister saw our village.
"Oh no..."
The whole village was in flames, bandits killing and robbing. "No!" I yelled, running towards the village, my sister following.
"Mother! Father!" Running into our house, I saw the bandits had them cornered, knives against necks, as others robbed the house. Seeing me and my sister, one snarled, and yelled; "Get them!"
As one of them leaped towards me with a knife, I had the same reaction as I did the day Father had been attacked by that big cat. Screaming mentally, my body frozen, my jewel let forth a blast of power. Only this time, it was so much bigger, and so much different. A ring of light, exploding from my jewel froze time for everyone it touched, turning them to nothing more then stone statues of what they use to be. The bandit froze in midair, then crashed to the ground, breaking, and my mother and father where forever frozen in a state of horror as they looked at me.
"No..." Running up to everyone in my family, "Please! Answer me!" Nothing. Running outside, where flames froze and I saw everyone in my village frozen in time, just like my family. Running to the village squares with the temples of the gods, Everywhere I looked, I saw what I had done. "No..."
Dropping to my knees in front of our statue of Zeus, I cried.
Eva. Doomsbringer of this small village, the gods have decided your punishment. The voice of a god echoed through my soul.
"Please..." I said through tears, "Isn't this punishment enough?"
You have killed everyone in your town, condemned them to stand forever in this scene of horror. You turned them, what was living, into dead stone. For this, you shall become living stone. I felt his power reaching up my body, freezing my wings and mane into solid gold, my brothers little bells and my laurel freezing as well.
You will wear the sacfifice of these people forever, A ruby formed on my necklace, blood red. I clutched it, crying, waiting for my punishment to be finished.
And you will forever wear the chains of your deeds. Beautiful golden chains fell on me, weighing me down.
You are now immortal, though this is not a gift. Whenever you find someone you care about, you will never be able to stay with them. You will just be able to watch them age, then die. The only way you can break this curse, is to find someone to share it with. Have them drink from the ambrosia in your necklace, and bring them to the place where your pain started. Only then will this curse be lifted from you. Sobbing, I ran from the town, hearing the bells ring no more, weighed down by the chains of my own doing. My powers had reached beyond the town, I could see even some of the animals frozen as well. Now, I could only run from my pain.
Some people may have been glad to have immortality, to have powers that are more powerful then anything anyone's ever seen. I had become a goddess, but I never wanted this. All I ever wanted, even before my curse, all I ever dreamed of was living forever with my family. They call my town cursed now. I call myself a curse. All I can hope for is to find that one person who will share this with me long enough, to break it for me. But I don't want to condemn someone to this, or give my immortality to someone who will misuse it. I don't know what to do... I PFDB123, allow Dawnbreeze10210 to 'reown' Eva if I no longer want her, let her collect dust, or mistreat her in anyway.
