#4a3a29 In jagged spike-like formations at the top of his back pointing down, and having little shards broken off and put them somewhere on the chest/stomach region. You can add your touch to it, and for matter of fact, go wild with the rest of the design! You can add whatever but try to make it so I can at least draw it. (I can draw some pretty hard designs, so no worries)

If anything, I haven't seen that many male brown jewels around. So I would prefer a brown jewel, but yellow may go better with the design. So you may pick, I promise it won't matter.

With his design, If could only think of 1 item to put on him, I would make him wear a white and black spotted bandanna on his tail.
