ElkrinName: Eridanis
Breedable: Yes, but only for someone very special.
Age: While Eridanis’s age is unknown, he is a fairly young Elkrin. Even so, he often displays maturity beyond his years.
Personality: Eridanis is a quiet Elkrin, not prone to chattering. When he does speak it is formal, his phrasing eloquent. Beneath his quiet demeaned is uncertainty, however. Just because he acts mature does not mean that he is infallible. As a young stag he is prone to making mistakes just like everyone, and he often worries over them to a greater extent than the problem warrants. He is possessive over Evelyn, his rider. He found her, and is not letting go. The two are inseparable, and would not give each other up for the world.
RiderName: Evelyn Katanat Son Uxma
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Background: Evelyn is part of the minor noble family, the Uxmas. She is the second child, having an older sister and younger brother. Her younger brother is being groomed as heir to the family, with the females to be married off to other nobles when the time comes. At nineteen she is considered a prime age to be married but she has dug in her heels and refused all of her suitors. Her parents complied with her wishes, deciding that it would be a good idea to let her wear down her rebellious streak before having her marry. She has still not settled down, however, and refuses to be forced into place.
Personality: Evelyn, or Eva as she is called by her friends, is very rebellious. She will refuse to comply with authority without reason. Unless she sees the sense in the order she will simply refuse to execute whatever task is asked of her. She is practical, choosing things for their worth over beauty. She picks friend based on personality, not social standing like her family would rather her do. One thing that she does love, despite their impracticality, are dresses. Even so, none of her close friends would be surprised to see that she was wearing leggings beneath them.
Physical Description: Evelyn is slender and stands about five foot four. She has a pale complexion that burns easily in the sun, and she tends to spot freckles during the summer. She has wavy blond hair that goes down slightly past her shoulders. She is pretty but not stunning, and she does not attempt to pretty herself up very much simply for day to day activities.
Story:Evelyn stood on the balcony, drinking in the fresh air. The night sky twinkled above her, stars like gems in rich velvet. She gazed upward, wavy blond hair tumbling about her shoulders. The falling stars streaked across the sky, leaving brilliant tails in their wake.
She sighed. “I really don’t understand why a party to celebrate a meteor shower would be held indoors. No one could see anything, so what’s the point of having the party in the first place?”
A flicker of movement caught her attention as Eva gazed down to the grassy terrace below. A dark form paced, pinpoints of light emanating from it. Every so often it jumped, glowing with radiance against the night sky. The girl gasped as she caught the silhouette against the night sky. An Elkrin. But what was an Elkrin doing here? She decided to find out.
Evelyn hurried down the stairs, heedless of her silken blue dress. Just seeing an Elkrin was a chance of a lifetime, worth more than a few rips or tears. Although they were becoming slightly more populous they were still incredibly rare. Eva had glimpsed one in the distance before, and considered herself blessed to get that much.
As she reached the ground level she kept her eyes peeled for the elusive figure. A glimpse was enough, sending her hurrying across the grass, damp with evening dew. The figure completed its leap as she approached, turning to her. Him, she realized. Those impressive antlers could only belong to a stag. He gazed at her with cool, liquid eyes. They shone a bright gold, matching the brilliant stars on his pelt. The moon gave her enough light to see by but the Elkrin seemed to be illuminated by his own inner fire.
“Hello,” Evelyn said tentatively. Her shoulders were up, back straight, but eyes and head slightly downcast, showing respect. She raised her gaze, “I am Evelyn.”
Hello Evelyn, rumbled a deep voice in response, resonating through her mind.
I am Eridanis, of the Star Eater Elkrin. And what might your lineage be?“I am Evelyn Katanat Son Uxma, of the linage Uxma.”
Greetings Evelyn of the Uxma family. Was there a reason you have come to see me? His voice thrummed like the beginnings of a thunderstorm.
“Not for any specific reason. I just saw you, and I wanted to come and see you. It is amazing to speak to an Elkrin. Meeting you is beyond my wildest dreams.”
Why? Because my kind is rare? Do you covet those who are unusual, and thus valuable?“No, not at all! You were just so beautiful and mystical, silhouetted against the stars like that. I wanted to meet you to see who you are, nothing more.”
And what have you found in me?“Well, I can’t say that I know you that well, but you seem to be kind. I think that you have been hurt before, from someone who wanted you purely for your value. You are polite, and I can hear honesty in your voice. Altogether, you are someone who I would like to know better. And what do you think of me?”
You are blunt, he began, a rueful tone in his voice,
but I feel as though you are honest as well. Like you stated, I think that I would like to get to know you better.Eridanis stepped forward and stopped right before Evelyn. She tentatively reached out a hand and laid it on his soft nose. The stars shone out from between her fingers, coating her hand in light.
Would you like a gift? He asked, his rumble tentative, hesitant.
“A gift?”
I would like you to be my rider. It is a mutual gift, I suppose, but I wish you to claim it.“Why me? I don’t understand.”
Neither do I, yet I know with certainty that you are the one. It is up to you, however. Your gift to accept or reject.“The chance to be bonded with an Elkrin as fine as you? There is no way that I could ever decline. I would love to be your rider, Eridanis.”
Then Evelyn Katanat Son Uxma, you are my rider, and I your Elkrin. He raised his head to Evelyn’s forehead and let out a warm breath. Stars glimmered in the mist, spreading across her body. Some shone on her face, while others sparkled like jewels on her body.
This is my gift to you. Some of the stars that I have collected are given to you. You are now my rider. Come, I will show you.“Show me what?” Eva wondered in awe as the warmth trailed across her skin, following the pinpricks of light.
Get on my back and I will show you.“Get on your back?”
Yes. Isn’t that how one usually rides an Elkrin?Numbly, Evelyn clambered onto Eridanis, his thick fur soft and silky. As she settled into her seat her dress climbed up her legs, revealing the pants worn underneath.
Are you ready?“I think so,” she responded shakily.
Then let us go. With that he took off into the air, powerful muscles propelling him into the night sky. The stars were still falling, streaking all around the pair.
Here, he said cryptically, reaching out and adsorbing a star at the end of its trail.
This one is for you. With those words Evelyn felt a wash of sensation that she had never know, never come close to knowing. It was like chocolate and fine wine, happiness and hope and swirling on the ballroom floor, like a good book and a crisp fall day, everything good wrapped into something beyond imagination. A wave of warmth washed through her and she looked down to see a new star blinking into existence on the back of her hand.
What do you think? he asked tentatively.
“It is amazing. But you know what? That doesn’t matter. What matters is you. You are amazing, with the stars of without. And you know what? I wouldn’t give you up for all of the stars in the sky.”
