Star Eater Stag
Image

Elkrin

Name: Eridanis

Breedable: Yes, but only for someone very special.

Age: While Eridanis’s age is unknown, he is a fairly young Elkrin. Even so, he often displays maturity beyond his years.

Personality: Eridanis is a quiet Elkrin, not prone to chattering. When he does speak it is formal, his phrasing eloquent. Beneath his quiet demeaned is uncertainty, however. Just because he acts mature does not mean that he is infallible. As a young stag he is prone to making mistakes just like everyone, and he often worries over them to a greater extent than the problem warrants. He is possessive over Evelyn, his rider. He found her, and is not letting go. The two are inseparable, and would not give each other up for the world.

Rider

Name: Evelyn Katanat Son Uxma

Gender: Female

Age: 19

Background: Evelyn is part of the minor noble family, the Uxmas. She is the second child, having an older sister and younger brother. Her younger brother is being groomed as heir to the family, with the females to be married off to other nobles when the time comes. At nineteen she is considered a prime age to be married but she has dug in her heels and refused all of her suitors. Her parents complied with her wishes, deciding that it would be a good idea to let her wear down her rebellious streak before having her marry. She has still not settled down, however, and refuses to be forced into place.

Personality: Evelyn, or Eva as she is called by her friends, is very rebellious. She will refuse to comply with authority without reason. Unless she sees the sense in the order she will simply refuse to execute whatever task is asked of her. She is practical, choosing things for their worth over beauty. She picks friend based on personality, not social standing like her family would rather her do. One thing that she does love, despite their impracticality, are dresses. Even so, none of her close friends would be surprised to see that she was wearing leggings beneath them.

Physical Description: Evelyn is slender and stands about five foot four. She has a pale complexion that burns easily in the sun, and she tends to spot freckles during the summer. She has wavy blond hair that goes down slightly past her shoulders. She is pretty but not stunning, and she does not attempt to pretty herself up very much simply for day to day activities.

Story:

Evelyn stood on the balcony, drinking in the fresh air. The night sky twinkled above her, stars like gems in rich velvet. She gazed upward, wavy blond hair tumbling about her shoulders. The falling stars streaked across the sky, leaving brilliant tails in their wake.

She sighed. “I really don’t understand why a party to celebrate a meteor shower would be held indoors. No one could see anything, so what’s the point of having the party in the first place?”

A flicker of movement caught her attention as Eva gazed down to the grassy terrace below. A dark form paced, pinpoints of light emanating from it. Every so often it jumped, glowing with radiance against the night sky. The girl gasped as she caught the silhouette against the night sky. An Elkrin. But what was an Elkrin doing here? She decided to find out.

Evelyn hurried down the stairs, heedless of her silken blue dress. Just seeing an Elkrin was a chance of a lifetime, worth more than a few rips or tears. Although they were becoming slightly more populous they were still incredibly rare. Eva had glimpsed one in the distance before, and considered herself blessed to get that much.

As she reached the ground level she kept her eyes peeled for the elusive figure. A glimpse was enough, sending her hurrying across the grass, damp with evening dew. The figure completed its leap as she approached, turning to her. Him, she realized. Those impressive antlers could only belong to a stag. He gazed at her with cool, liquid eyes. They shone a bright gold, matching the brilliant stars on his pelt. The moon gave her enough light to see by but the Elkrin seemed to be illuminated by his own inner fire.

“Hello,” Evelyn said tentatively. Her shoulders were up, back straight, but eyes and head slightly downcast, showing respect. She raised her gaze, “I am Evelyn.”

Hello Evelyn, rumbled a deep voice in response, resonating through her mind. I am Eridanis, of the Star Eater Elkrin. And what might your lineage be?

“I am Evelyn Katanat Son Uxma, of the linage Uxma.”

Greetings Evelyn of the Uxma family. Was there a reason you have come to see me? His voice thrummed like the beginnings of a thunderstorm.

“Not for any specific reason. I just saw you, and I wanted to come and see you. It is amazing to speak to an Elkrin. Meeting you is beyond my wildest dreams.”

Why? Because my kind is rare? Do you covet those who are unusual, and thus valuable?

“No, not at all! You were just so beautiful and mystical, silhouetted against the stars like that. I wanted to meet you to see who you are, nothing more.”

And what have you found in me?

“Well, I can’t say that I know you that well, but you seem to be kind. I think that you have been hurt before, from someone who wanted you purely for your value. You are polite, and I can hear honesty in your voice. Altogether, you are someone who I would like to know better. And what do you think of me?”

You are blunt, he began, a rueful tone in his voice, but I feel as though you are honest as well. Like you stated, I think that I would like to get to know you better.

Eridanis stepped forward and stopped right before Evelyn. She tentatively reached out a hand and laid it on his soft nose. The stars shone out from between her fingers, coating her hand in light.

Would you like a gift? He asked, his rumble tentative, hesitant.

“A gift?”

I would like you to be my rider. It is a mutual gift, I suppose, but I wish you to claim it.

“Why me? I don’t understand.”

Neither do I, yet I know with certainty that you are the one. It is up to you, however. Your gift to accept or reject.

“The chance to be bonded with an Elkrin as fine as you? There is no way that I could ever decline. I would love to be your rider, Eridanis.”

Then Evelyn Katanat Son Uxma, you are my rider, and I your Elkrin. He raised his head to Evelyn’s forehead and let out a warm breath. Stars glimmered in the mist, spreading across her body. Some shone on her face, while others sparkled like jewels on her body. This is my gift to you. Some of the stars that I have collected are given to you. You are now my rider. Come, I will show you.

“Show me what?” Eva wondered in awe as the warmth trailed across her skin, following the pinpricks of light.

Get on my back and I will show you.

“Get on your back?”

Yes. Isn’t that how one usually rides an Elkrin?

Numbly, Evelyn clambered onto Eridanis, his thick fur soft and silky. As she settled into her seat her dress climbed up her legs, revealing the pants worn underneath.

Are you ready?

“I think so,” she responded shakily.

Then let us go. With that he took off into the air, powerful muscles propelling him into the night sky. The stars were still falling, streaking all around the pair. Here, he said cryptically, reaching out and adsorbing a star at the end of its trail. This one is for you.

With those words Evelyn felt a wash of sensation that she had never know, never come close to knowing. It was like chocolate and fine wine, happiness and hope and swirling on the ballroom floor, like a good book and a crisp fall day, everything good wrapped into something beyond imagination. A wave of warmth washed through her and she looked down to see a new star blinking into existence on the back of her hand.

What do you think? he asked tentatively.

“It is amazing. But you know what? That doesn’t matter. What matters is you. You are amazing, with the stars of without. And you know what? I wouldn’t give you up for all of the stars in the sky.”

Image

Name:

Costellazione
'Constellation' in Italian
Nickname is Zione
I picked this name for this gorgeous stag because he seems like the wise, elderly type of stag who would be remembered by having a constellation named after him. Since he's a Star Eater and he holds the stars in his pelt, it also felt fitting that he be named for a figure of stars. He is gorgeous and bright, just like the constellations.

Breedable:

Yes, but only to the right doe(s)

Personality
>Proud<
Zione is extremely proud. He holds himself high and expects everyone else to do the rest. He is as old as the stars themselves, and with that age comes a disdain for youth, seeing them as disrespectful. He even holds himself higher than the Kings and Queens of Eldemore. Instead of him paying respect to them, he sees that they should be paying respect to him. If anyone infringes on this pride, they will quickly find themselves rebuked -a lot of times rather violently- and they will have to work to gain any kindness form Zione again.
>Wise<
Being as old as he is, Zione is very wise. If he deems you worthy, the old stag will bestow this wisdom upon you. You would think he'd be willing to share his knowledge, but Zione, oddly enough, is reluctant to do so. He feels that there is so much to be known if others simply looked instead of asked. He likes to see others discover what he knows through finding it with their own eyes, instead of him just telling them.
>Decisive<
When it comes time for a decision to be made, Zione does it efficiently. Do or do not, there is no try. This trait of himself allows him to easily make decisions and choose the best course of action for himself. This also leads hi to try and make decisions for others, even though it may not always work out like he plans.
>Vain<
Zione is very vain about himself. The main target of his vanity is the stars and stardust that line his pelt after consuming a fallen star. If anyone eggs on this vanity, it only becomes worse. However if they attack hi because of it, Zione becomes defensive and angry and will often rebuke those who do so. His vanity stretches far worse than just mere pride in himself.
>Persistant<
To be quite frank, Zione gets what he wants whether others like it or not. He is a stag of great repute with the skills to match it. If he sees something he wants, or knows he wants to do something, there is no questioning him and there is certainly no arguing with him. He has lost his share of argument sin the past, but he tends not to dwell on those said losses.

Rider:
Name; Pioggia Lilardul
Age; 17 Years Old
Appearance; Pioggia is a slight, thin framed young woman with fair skin and straight, light brown hair. Her eyes are a bright, soulful blue that is very expressive. She tends to wear muted colors and neutrals, normally wearing no jewelry except for a band around her upper left arm.
Brief Personality; She is a very kind hearted girl, who means well with all that she does. She's the type that cries if she hurts a fly. Pioggia is gentle to a fault, and is always afraid of breaking someone or something even though she has no strength in her arms at all. Still, even through this softness, there is a fire within her that yearns to burn away the timid and burn brightly into the adventurous.

>>Wish Upon A Star<<

Image

"Pull up a chair, young one, " The Bard says, holding his lute in the cradle of his arms, "For this is the tale of a girl who wished upon a Star."

He sat up fully, leaning back and strumming a little tune on the string instrument. When he next spoke his voice was a little sing song rhythm that held a catchy beat, "A Stag so proud and wise, yet held a vanity of the stars. Many sought him out to catch a glimpse of him, hoping to have a wish come true on his illustrious coat." The Bard paused, stringing a little run, before continuing on, "As a star fell to Eldemore that night, the Stag saw this star and went to retrieve it. Little did he know, a young girl saw it and was going to find it as well. What happens next changed the course of both their lives in ways they could never have imagined."

The Bard paused with a charming smile, tilting his head slightly and letting the feather on his hat bob up and down, "The day that an Elkrin and a Rider found each other."
(192 Words)

>>The Morning Light<<
Image
After a short pause, the Bard continued, "As the morning light rose upon Eldemore, the young girl, named Pioggia, finally made it to the place the star had fallen. Little did she know, a mysterious creature had gotten there first." Smiling, the Bard strummed a few more notes before he stopped and continued, eying the children in the crowd around him with eager eyes.

"The stag turned, as it had heard her approach. His burning eyes looked down upon her, but the girl did not flinch away. She was drawn to him by some mysterious curiosity that had to be quelled." the Bard paused, his fingers working the strings on the lute into an eerie little tune, "The Stag stamped his feet, but still the girl did not flinch away. 'Why do you not run from me, tiny human?' he asked her. His eyes looked even more confused as she came closer to him." The Bard strummed a fast, single note before stopping. He leaned in and said to the children, "Do you know what she said?" The children stayed silent.

"She said, 'Why would I run?'
(194 Words)

>>To Touch the Galaxy<<
Image
"After awhile of the two looking at each other, " the Bard went on, a soft little tune working its way out of his instrument, "The stag shook himself, stardust scattering from his pelt and blowing onto the girl."

The Bard, smiling once more, continued on with a little lilt to his voice, as if trying to sing the children to sleep, "The stag looked right into her large, innocent blue eyes, and said vainly, "You are a mere ugly human. No human has set sight upon my my wonderful form before, as they have never been worthy.' To this, Pioggia did not respond at all. So instead, the stag continued on, 'What makes you think you are worthy enough to see me?'" The Bard paused, giving a slow trill of notes, before he continued, "The girl simply walked up to him, not saying a word, and pressed her hand against his flank without fear."

"The stag's nostrils flared and he tensed, as if he were about to strike the girl down where she stood for her impudence, but still the girl did not move an inch. Finally, she spoke to him once more, 'You feel like ice.'."
(206 Words)

>>A Blessing Upon You<<
Image
One of the children made a little 'ooo' sound, to which the Bard smiled at, strumming a little more lightly on the strings of his lute. "As she looked up to the stag, he said to her, 'Of course I am! The galaxy is me and I am the galaxy! I am as cold as space itself. Why would that not be?' To which the girl nodded, running her hands across his ice cold pelt, feeling little points of heat where the stars swam in his fur. Pioggia said to him, still exploring his fur, 'The galaxy...'."

The Bard gave a small pause to strum on his lute, before continuing on, "'Yes, the galaxy.' the stag responded proudly, holding his chin a little higher and extending one of his back legs, as if to let her explore the stars further. Pioggia laid her cheek against his fur and looked up at him, saying, 'You're so beautiful... A costellazione... A constellation.' Her eyes closed, and the stage said, oddly humbled, 'Then let me bestow a blessing upon you, human.'
(193 Words)

>>The Star of My Soul<<
Image
"The stag pulled away from the girl, and as he did so, she stayed right where she was. 'Please, call me Pioggia. That's my name.' she stated as the stag jumped up onto a rock next to her." The Bard's notes became slower, more melodic as he went on, a rather soft smile on his face. All the children were enamored with his story. "The stag looked down at her, his eyes, like that of dying suns, studied her slowly. 'Then it shall be, Pioggia. Do you know what I am?' he asked. Pioggia looked up at him, and said, 'You are Costellazione. The galaxy is you and you are the galaxy. Your pelt is as cold as ice, pricked with hot little points of stars.'"

"And so, " the Bard went on, trilling a long, held out note, "The stag lowered his head down a little, turned it back, and picked a point of light out of his pelt. Turning his head back to Pioggia he lowered his head some more and dropped the brightly glowing star into her held out hands. 'Then so it shall be. I am your Costellazione, and you are my Pioggia.'

"And so it is forevermore."

Username: Manx
Name: Tariq
Gender: Male
Breedable: Yes

Image
Personality:
Proud | Narcissistic | Confident | Loyal | Stubborn | Cunning | Blunt | Reserved
Tariq's personality traits tend to be quite exasperating to most, and it's true, it takes quite a special person to get to know him. With his high intelligence and unwavering pride comes a sense of narcissism. At times, he has been known to value himself above others, especially when it comes to a matter of intelligence. No one can deny Tariq is an intelligent being, much more intelligent than most. However, many do find this narcissism problematic and difficult to deal with, with good reason. In addition to this, he can also be incredibly stubborn. Once he has formulated an opinion on a matter, it is very nearly impossible to sway him from it, especially with a pride such as his. Not only this, but he also tends to be quite blunt about things, not seeing any reason to sugar coat cold, hard truths.

No one could call Tariq a friendly or outgoing Elkrin. In fact, he is quite the opposite. Preferring to keep a wary distance from others, both physically and emotionally, he's certainly not the easiest to bond with. To most, he often comes off as cold and uncaring, though this is not the case. In reality, Tariq is a kind and loyal friend, if you should be one of the few honoured by his friendship. Though he pushes most away, those he considers his friends are kept close by his side, and he would loyally stand by them, no matter what the circumstance. This rare side of him is only shown to those he trusts the most, which are far and few between. Those that do manage it, however, have certainly found a valuable life-long friend.

Traits:
As many, Tariq is not without his own little quirks. For example, much to his embarrassment, this strong and confident stag has Acrophobia, a fear of heights. It's something he prefers to keep hidden, as he sees it as quite irrational. However, that doesn't change the fact that even the smallest heights can give him a dizzying vertigo that will send him bolting back to safety. Tariq also tends to be a little OCD, preferring things done and arranged in a certain order. Incredibly annoying for some, but his stubborn nature doesn't allow him to sway from his argument, and so more often than not, things get done in the order he wants it.

Image
Name: Adara Ramella
Gender: Female
Age: 20

Appearance:
A fairly slim girl, Adara stands at 5'5, and has a rather athletic build. Her hair is a light brown and fairly thin, but long, coming down nearly to her waist. Normally, she prefers to keep it drawn back in a pony-tail, in order to keep it away from her face. Her facial features are fairly rounded, and her eyes are a deep green. Adara almost always has a fairly dark tan, due to the fact that she much prefers being outside than inside.

Imprinted Appearance:
When she became bonded to the Elkrin, Tariq, Adara took on an imprinted appearance. She kept her normal height and physique, but several other features changed. Her hair, though retaining its normal length, darkened to an almost pitch black. Her facial features became rather more pronounced, taking on a slightly sharper look. As well, her eyes changed colour slightly, turning instead into a deep bluish-green.

Personality:
Outgoing | Kind | Adventurous | Determined | Passionate | Loyal | Bold | Sarcastic
Bold, daring, and stubborn are all personality traits used to describe Adara. Indeed, once she has set her mind to something, it isn't easy to deter her from it. She'll work at something for days, months even, before she begins to even think about quitting. Her unwavering determination to complete tasks makes her a diligent and reliable worker and, above all, friend. Adara dislikes giving up and letting things get the better of her, and she portrays this trait in many ways. If someone says she'll never accomplish something, she'll only work ten times harder in order to achieve it. This passion and determination aids her in numerous ways, and it could be argued that these traits were in fact the reason she was chosen to become an Elkrin rider...

Despite this, though, Adara really is a kind soul. She enjoys hanging out with others, and it normally quite outgoing and adventurous. Adara is a kind and loyal friend, one who'll never give up on you and stand by your side through the thick and the thin. For the most part, she get along with others quite easily, and has never had much problem making friends. In fact, her openness and enthusiasm make her an ideal role model for many people, particularly younger children. Her friendly nature appeals to most, and she always one to make an effort to include everyone in fun activities. Adara loves becoming involved in her community, and in the past has been known to help put together several festivals, all for the entertainment for others. Though she does have quite a bit of patience, like all, she does have a limit. When Adara becomes annoyed, her sarcastic humor tends to show through more than usual.

Crickets chirped quietly away, the only sound breaking the otherwise silent night. Above, the clear summer night provided a spectacular view of the stars, each constellation easy to pick out. A gentle breeze blew whispered through the forest, and I tucked a lock of loose hair behind my ear. My back pressed against the mossy side of a fallen log, I tilted my head back, relaxed, and watched the twinkling lights in silence. A flash of movement caught my eye, and I glanced up in time to see a single shooting star arc across the horizon. A soft smile touched my lips as memories of my childhood resurfaced; laying quietly in the grass with my mother, wishing upon the stars as they fell to earth. I always did wonder what happened to those falling stars, for not once did I ever actually see one… But those were inquires of my childhood, fueled by legends of old…

‘I could certainly use a wish right now,’ I thought sadly to myself, watching the star wink out of existence. Tears threatened to seize me as I pressed the blue star charm painfully in my hand, bringing me back to reality. Over the weeks, my mother had grown increasingly ill, and at this point there was little anyone could do. Shamans and healers had come and gone, but none could find the cure for the illness that ailed her. I knew she was trying to be strong for me, brushing it off as though it was nothing, but no longer could we deny that it wasn’t ‘nothing’.

I squeezed my eyes shut, unable to stop the flowing tears. It wasn’t as though I had never been exposed to death before… Yet, this tore at my heart like no other pain I had ever felt. My mother was the only family I had left, and if I lost her… In the darkness, I took deep, steadying breathes, calming my breathing. Gazing back up at the stars, I recalled her words the previous night…

“I always did love the stars,” my mother whispered wistfully, gazing out of the small window into the endless night. “Do you remember the legends I used to tell you? You used to adore them as a child…”
“I remember,” I had whispered back, my hand wrapped around hers. How could I forget? Every night she used to tell me them, the stories of the Elkrins of the stars, and their riders.
“They’re the same ones my mother always used to tell to me,” my mother continued. “I used to dream of them as a child, always hoping to one day see one for myself.” Giving a weak smile, she turned to me. “You used to dream of the same things, if I recall.”
“Mother, they’re just stories…” I whispered back, my voice cracking painfully.
“Not if you believe in them, darling,” she replied, hugging me close and turning to the stars. “Just wish upon a star, and perhaps it’ll come true.”

Sitting up with a jolt, I realized I must have fallen asleep. Shaking my head and yawning, I moved to get up; freezing as something suddenly caught my eye. Standing not ten feet away from me was something that resembled a stag, but it was simply impossible. His shining eyes followed mine, and his pelt danced with the lights of dozens of stars. It was a legend come true, a phantom of my childhood standing before me. It was exactly the same creature my mother had described to me as a child, a great being from the stars themselves. For a moment, the stag remained there, gazing down at me. Then he was gone, quick as a flash, disappearing into the forest. Blinking, I came out from my paralysis, gripping the log beside me for support. Unsteadily, I made my way home, still in silent shock..

From his place in the forest, the stag watched the girl stumble home. There was something about her… A strange pull that intrigued him far beyond any other he had seen before. She was strong, and courageous, yet at the same time, a dreamer; one who looked to the stars. Watching her broken with grief, the stag felt a stab of pity for her. Quiet as the breeze, he slipped through the forest after her.

Pushing past the door, alarm shot through me as I noticed a healer beside my mother’s bed. Glancing at me, she gave a small shake of her head, and backed away. Understanding, I swallowed back my tears and reached the bedside, watching my mother’s weak chest heave in painful breaths. She was alive, but barely. Sinking to onto her bed, I couldn’t bite back my sob as I gripped her hand. Her eyes flicked open, and a smile touched them as she saw me.

“Hey, darling,” she said softly, her voice hoarse.
“Mom…” I choked, looking down at her with blurry eyes. From the corner of my eye, something outside of the window caught my eye, and I suddenly motioned for the healer. “Help me take her out, please.”

“Adara, I don’t think that’s a good idea,” she protested, but I ignored her. Slowly, but surely, I helped her to her feet and led her to the doorway. My mother seemed surprised, but didn’t protest as I guided her towards the door. Throwing it open, I watched as the shock and look of wonder crossed my mother’s face, gazing at the star-pelted creature. Her eyes glowed with a child-like joy, and the stag regarded us calmly. Pulling me into her embrace, I heard the joy as my mother whispered, “To wish upon a star…”

I stood quietly over my mother’s grave, leaning against the stag at my side. Though he could not heal my mother, he had given her, given us, something more; joy, and hope.

“Tariq,” I whispered, “My shooting star.”
