Name of character:Archimedes

Named after the owl in Disney's The Sword And The Stone
Due to the markings around the character's eyes and face,
which remind me of an owl.
Of course, as a person who grew up with Disney,
the first thing when I think of 'Owl' is Archimedes.

Archimedes could also refer to Archimedes of Syracuse,
who was, among other things, a well-known Greek mathematician.

Nicknames: Owl, Archie, Baileys

Age: Three (almost four) years old.

Species: Dog; Cream Border Collie Mix
Archimedes' mother was a brown and white border collie living on a farm in the countryside. She was often left out and in the process met Archimedes' father, a large sandy-colored mongrel.
His resulting genetics have left him with a cream coat, the general body build of a border collie and he is also much larger than his mother. He has half flopped ears and subtle strokes of bridling on parts of his fur. His coat, for the majority, is smooth, with portions of fluff on his chest and underbelly, ruff, rump and underside of the trunk of the tail. His paw pads are a very light pink color and his tongue is an average pink with small spots of black nearer the tip. He often has a very confused look on his face, which seems part of his usual expression. His eyes are yellow with brown pupils.



Use for character:
I believe Archimedes would be very good for writing, as I'm usually more picky with canines and have trouble writing from a non-naturally colored character's perspective. He looks like he would have great character and personality and bring me lots of ideas for writing featuring canines as main characters. I would also use him as a general online character, ordering art and also displaying on my character site.

Archimedes is a very stable and quiet dog that doesn't like confrontation and generally stays out of the way of others. He can, however be quick tempered when he is met by less than friendly dogs and people. He likes doing tasks and often performs tricks and general displays of affection to get his food from the locals. He doesn't often scavenge, as there are far too much other competition.
Archimedes is by no means lazy, having a very specific daily routine which be rarely strays from. He is extremely cautious and often checks things numerous times before approaching. As organised as a dog ever could be, Archimedes knows where everything is and has an excellent memory, remembering where things happened and where best to go for food and the places he should avoid.
He has a generally peaceful nature to him and likes being around the human community. He often seeks companionship from other dogs although finds them either too vicious, territorial or set in their ways. The more friendly ones are often poisoned, caught by the pound or taken away to unknown places. Archimedes would love to find a mate to spend his time with but with the current competitiveness of the other dogs it is almost if not entirely impossible.

History/Background:

Puppy
The puppies were born on a hot summer’s day, near to where the sheep were let out to roam. There were three males and two females. The farm was vacant at the time, for the master was elsewhere. The chained dogs on the farm barked and yowled, sensing the new comers. The feral cats and their kittens came close to investigate, some even managing to paw at the puppies before they were chased away by an unhappy mother.
She moved them soon after into the barn and guarded the area for two days, before the master returned. He was not best pleased to find the dog out of her pen once again, for she was quite the Houdini, and even less pleased to find the hidden puppies. He left her out in the barn, as he was the type to leave animals to their business.
One of the males died soon after but the collie managed to keep the others alive. By the time they were two months old, they were already showing signs of outgrowing their mother. The puppies were very curious, exploring the farm and harassing the cats, who were less interested in them now they had grown to such a size. The female puppies remained remarkably friendly, despite their lack of handling. More than likely it was due to their mother’s affection towards the master. They were sold for a good price.
At three months, the male puppies were chained up like the other male dogs and their mother was confined back to her pen. The next several months passed in a blur of lying around, barking and scrabbling for the dry biscuits thrown to them.
Owl was close to seven months old when he pulled himself loose from the chain and trotted out into the countryside around him. It was much more interesting and after being cooped up so long, he was keen to explore the new scents and smells, chasing after rabbits and stumbling upon other buildings, with their own dogs and masters.
Owl didn’t return to his farm or his master but instead continued across the country, on a journey of his own.

Owl padded down the street, head hung low, overgrown claws clicking on tarmac. Around the corner, he could hear loud, thumping music and humans bustling around outside the clubs. He paused at the crossing and looked that direction but at the last minute, turned abruptly and loped off in the other direction. He knew that there would be no food to find there, just foul-smelling, unpredictable humans and shattering glass.
The headlights of a car appeared ahead and he moved to the side, just giving the car enough room to trundle past, a rude utterance and a flick of the wrist issuing out of the window. Across the street, the lights a takeaway sign flashed on and off. A strong smell of meat and onions came from the shop. He wagged his tail slowly and stepped up onto the pavement, paying no attention to the girls laughing and shying away from him.
He sniffed around the forlorn foam boxes and over salted fries outside the doorway, wolfing up a half-eaten burger and bun. He licked at his muzzle to remove the ketchup and unpleasant tang of vinegar.
A plump, ungainly man leant out of the takeaway door and shooed him off, loudly telling him just where he should go. Owl lifted his head, staring at the man with mild disinterest before yawning widely and trotting away.
For the most part, the town was only good for scavenging from lazy and untidy humans. The cuter, smaller dogs stood a good chance of being fed scraps directly, if they were intuitive enough to find the right people. Owl, however, was a very large, blandly colored mutt that most people saw as a nuisance or a threat. It was quite a large town, with plenty of businesses and people bustling around every which way, with no time for begging strays.
Owl was quite nomadic, however. He roamed almost constantly, only settling in places for a period of time when the locals were amiable to him. He had been in this town for the best part of a month, surveying the alleys and the local haunts, working out the lay of the land. There were places he could get food from, certainly, but they were few and far with the competition the other animals gave. It was coming up to the time that he would move again, heading out of the town and following the roads to the coastal villages and perhaps settle down there for a time.

I applied for this wonderful boy before; when wesleydog won him. I of course had a partially and pitiful form due to my huge procrastinating. But part of my heart still went with him under his new christened name, Chancellor. At first I didn't really think that name fit him but as my development for him was woefully incomplete the more I saw him and called him that, the more I liked it. It fits him and his use as my character. First off, he will be added to the ranks of Valkyrie's herd; my main horse herd and the one that I am writing a comic on. He will also be best friends with my Fursona, Sorrow, as a re-kindled friendship from foal hood. And his last use among my characters is to be a possible mate of one of my mare characters, I have yet to decide which one. I will love him and draw him, and order art of him as much as my budget and logical mind allows. (You know like emotional mind says yes but then logical mind says no.)
Along with what I will use him for, I want this character because he reminds me of a good friend of mine. A short and stocky conformation, curly hair and a darker skin tone. This stallion and my friend even have a similar name, well that's because I based this boy's previous name after my pal's. I see Chance like a see my friend. Someone to be there and someone to talk to when I need. A friend who listens to the person who always listens, doesn't care about our differences and is a boy. This stud will be the kind of friend to Sorrow, as my friend is to me.

Personality:

Chancellor is intelligent and easy-going. He is increasingly smart and always has his ears perked in an intelligent manner. He knows his way around the isle and back around, he's been there and done that. Chance can also pick things up easier then others. For instance, he figures out hints and clues by looking at one's body language and voice. This cross also is an easy-going guy, he prefers to avoid a fight and not make a mess. He is one that tries to settle a dispute with calm talking, instead of combat. In his mind nothing is worse than having fault of a fight or war. Unless it comes to mares, Chancellor cares less about territory and would do anything for the mares he protects. If he feels that they are threatened, Chance will be the first for the rescue. The relaxed and only really protective over mares, part of him comes from his father and other wild horse ancestors.

This stud is also a jokester and a attention-lover. Chancellor is the total opposite of quiet, he loves a crowd and knows when all eyes are on him. When he has the crowd's cornias and ear drums, he'll pull a joke and laugh along with his acquaintances. To put this skill to use, he uses it when there are awkward silences, or unwelcomed tension. The jokester part of him is one part that most people like about him, and the reason in his joking mood, that all the mares love him. This small stallion loves attention and never fails to put on a good show. Whether a show of his emotions or a literal show, he never fizzles. Although in a popular place he may seem like a full-of-himself show off, he really is a loveable and sweet guy.

Sweet and Loveable is how Chance likes to be with the lady-folk, and the young stock. He wouldn't purposely hurt a female or foal. But if he had to hurt them to protect them he would, which that would only really concern mares because it would mainly hurt their heart. In a mare's eyes Chance is sweet because he cares. He actually wants to know if they are feeling well, or they are doing okay. And unlike some other stallions he doesn't view mares as a inferior race, he knows darn right that mares can be strong and hold down the fort as well.

Of all the positives, Chance is a secretive stud and secluded in heart. He may seem like a bright guy on the outside but his inside feelings and motives are never truly known. Past events have left him to trust hardly anyone and the present events may make or break that trust. Chancellor has pent up anger that he learned to subside but like everything, it has to be released and when the time comes for him to burst, you just have to hope that Chance is on your side.

Appearance:

A stocky, well-built structure containing medium length limbs and high-set hindquarters. His head has a convex profile and small ears that are usually pressed forward with interest. Neck and withers are set higher than his wild ancestor's and come from the domestic side of the family. Although the rest of his stock confirmation and height come from his Przewalski father. The color of his pelt is a cookie dough of cremello and dun, with more cremello ingredients. He also has a slight dusting of pangaré, but instead of light white coloring, it is pink and almost the same color cream as his main coat. Upon his pelt are light dapples making themselves noticeable here and there. His coat is relatively short and has the heterozygously passed on gene for 'smooth coat' curly; in that case his is a Curly with no curl. But not to worry his mane, tail and forelock all have a slightly curly, almost wavy disposition. It's just not as intense as his mother's and her brothern.

A herd lead by a vigorous and feared, half leopard appaloosa mare. Smaller in numbers, with a few stallions to help in force the 'Queen's' wishes.

Silence Band [previously]
a small group of lone horses that have grouped together for protection. Most of these horses have their reasons for being 'out casts', and many don't want to talk about their past. In that case, that is how the band got it's name. It is also a group known to accept anyone and see potential in everyone.
