Story: The world was bright, it was so bright that I had slammed my eyes shut and stumbled to the ground the first time I saw it. I had never seen such a blinding shade of white. It seemed to surround me, and encase me in an endless box of blank space.
When I first recognized her scent, I opened up my violet eyes again to a lesser white: one that looked reflective and moved when my hooves scuttled through it; it was a little blue farther away, over by the mountains. I looked up to the winter sun and marveled at it before a shadow blocked the image from my view: it was my mother. She was always so kind to me, and when I saw her I would always long to be close to her, especially during my worst of times…
The new world was my own meadow; even though it was a meadow blanketed with snow. I was an independent and proud Equid. I believed that I was big enough to handle myself by my first few months, and I wanted to prove it to my mother, so I decided to climb up the step, icy crags that we lived at the base of. I knew these crags were dangerous, but I was grown up! I could handle myself just fine.
It wasn’t too much trouble to get to the top: a few terraces and icy rocks that I would slide on from time to time, but I stumbled through it all the way to the highest outcrop I could get to, right at the base of the snowcaps. Proud of myself, I reared up, kicking my legs out like a young stallion and whinnied at loud as I could, allowing my foal-like squeal to echo throughout the crags, bouncing off rocks and resonating up to the snow caps. I finally dropped back on all four of my tiny hooves when the ground started shaking and a deep rumble sunk into my ears, ringing all the way to my bones.
I spun around, suddenly the terrified little foal I actually was. My eyes widened, and I squealed as a giant white monster barreled down the side of the mountain toward me. I turned back to face the long and difficult way down the craggy land and leaped from my post, sliding on the ice and stumbling over the rocks before I eventually fell and slid backwards down the icy slope. I was facing the beast now as it closed in on me, and I squealed out, “Mommy! It’s going to eat me!” Calling for my mother was the only thing I could have thought of to do. Any moment, she would jump out and battle the evil white monster and make him go away. I thought she would, but when the monster opened its jaws and snarled at me, I wasn’t so sure.
I slammed into a stray rock that slowed me down and swiveled me the right way again. I scrambled to get my footing, and once I finally scraped my way up, I ran down the slope and squealed in terror as I felt the beast start clawing at my fetlocks before swallowing me up completely and leaving me to remain forever in its stomach. I slowly fell to what I thought would be an eternal sleep…

I leaped out of the monster’s belly and touched muzzles with her. I managed to squeak a question,”Did you scare the monster away, mommy?”
She nuzzled my face with a gentle smile,”Yes, dear. It won’t bother you anymore.”
I asked more confidently,”Did you see me up there?! I was so brave!”
She laughed and smiled softly,”Indeed. You were like a King.”
((Finished, ^^. In short, it's a memoir of King's foal days when he got caught in an avalanche during his attempt to "show off" to everyone. A few notes: The repetition of the beginning paragraphs at the end was indeed intentional: interpret it as you wish. The "white snarling monster" was the actual avalanche. His mother is just a generic mom. xD))
