Story: The world was bright, it was so bright that I had slammed my eyes shut and stumbled to the ground the first time I saw it. I had never seen such a blinding shade of white. It seemed to surround me, and encase me in an endless box of blank space.

When I first recognized her scent, I opened up my violet eyes again to a lesser white: one that looked reflective and moved when my hooves scuttled through it; it was a little blue farther away, over by the mountains. I looked up to the winter sun and marveled at it before a shadow blocked the image from my view: it was my mother. She was always so kind to me, and when I saw her I would always long to be close to her, especially during my worst of times…

The new world was my own meadow; even though it was a meadow blanketed with snow. I was an independent and proud Equid. I believed that I was big enough to handle myself by my first few months, and I wanted to prove it to my mother, so I decided to climb up the step, icy crags that we lived at the base of. I knew these crags were dangerous, but I was grown up! I could handle myself just fine.

It wasn’t too much trouble to get to the top: a few terraces and icy rocks that I would slide on from time to time, but I stumbled through it all the way to the highest outcrop I could get to, right at the base of the snowcaps. Proud of myself, I reared up, kicking my legs out like a young stallion and whinnied at loud as I could, allowing my foal-like squeal to echo throughout the crags, bouncing off rocks and resonating up to the snow caps. I finally dropped back on all four of my tiny hooves when the ground started shaking and a deep rumble sunk into my ears, ringing all the way to my bones.

I spun around, suddenly the terrified little foal I actually was. My eyes widened, and I squealed as a giant white monster barreled down the side of the mountain toward me. I turned back to face the long and difficult way down the craggy land and leaped from my post, sliding on the ice and stumbling over the rocks before I eventually fell and slid backwards down the icy slope. I was facing the beast now as it closed in on me, and I squealed out, “Mommy! It’s going to eat me!” Calling for my mother was the only thing I could have thought of to do. Any moment, she would jump out and battle the evil white monster and make him go away. I thought she would, but when the monster opened its jaws and snarled at me, I wasn’t so sure.

I slammed into a stray rock that slowed me down and swiveled me the right way again. I scrambled to get my footing, and once I finally scraped my way up, I ran down the slope and squealed in terror as I felt the beast start clawing at my fetlocks before swallowing me up completely and leaving me to remain forever in its stomach. I slowly fell to what I thought would be an eternal sleep…

The world was bright, it was so bright that I had slammed my eyes shut and stumbled to the ground the first time I saw it. I had never seen such a blinding shade of white. It seemed to surround me, and encase me in an endless box of blank space.

When I first recognized her scent, I opened up my violet eyes again to a lesser white: one that looked reflective and moved when my hooves scuttled through it; it was a little blue farther away, overhead. I looked up to the winter sun and marveled at it before a shadow blocked the image from my view: it was my mother, poking her head down into the monsters stomach. She was always so kind to me, and when I saw her I longed to be close to her, especially now, during my worst of times.

I leaped out of the monster’s belly and touched muzzles with her. I managed to squeak a question,”Did you scare the monster away, mommy?”
She nuzzled my face with a gentle smile,”Yes, dear. It won’t bother you anymore.”

I asked more confidently,”Did you see me up there?! I was so brave!”

She laughed and smiled softly,”Indeed. You were like a King.”

((Finished, ^^. In short, it's a memoir of King's foal days when he got caught in an avalanche during his attempt to "show off" to everyone. A few notes: The repetition of the beginning paragraphs at the end was indeed intentional: interpret it as you wish. The "white snarling monster" was the actual avalanche. His mother is just a generic mom. xD))

Story: His lungs burned from their current exertion, new and old air exchanging in gusts of breath that the had sucked in moments earlier. His hooves pounded the ground as his legs pumped to move him faster across the landscape. A terrible metal hurr, whirling and groan of a foreign creature he'd never seen before hovered terrifyingly in the air behind him as he ran. The giant thing, a metal bird almost as it stayed in the air flying after him, wouldnt tire and his body couldn't keep this up. His mind thought quickly as he raced along his mane whipping around and his tail streaming out behind him as he strode for some form of freedom from the beast. He glanced around, it looked as thought the thing wanted to herd him into a ravine and trap him. Was this hunk of flying junk trying to capture him he thought in crediously. Even in the eyes of danger and panic for freedom he still had time to throw quick trash talk at the thing, the dreaded thing that hurt his ears and chased him down. He swerved to escape and dart into the trees to find cover but the beast circled and cut him off. He snorted, his muscles aching, yet when the thing got closer he couldn't help but bolt off again, feeling output by his efforts and falling back into the trap. As he neared the ravine he realized what must be done, he ran in harder pushing him self to limits that he would regret later. He rushed to escape the thing and its noise, he remembered hearing it earlier....

He had been in the meadow near by, grazing alone when he heard and saw the approaching speck in the sky he hadn't realized it was danger and continued his lazy munching, but when the thing got closer and closer, the noise unbearable and the sight finally terrifying him he moved to run from it, the metal bird now giving chase as its weird wings spun in a circle above its head...

He would never forget it now, he thought. He continued running though his pace now slowing from all this exertion. He was now in the ravine. He glanced up at the metal beast once again and this time smirked, they didn't think he would do anything. Just panicked and break down under the pressure, but he wasn't ready to be capture by some freak off the air. He galloped on.

He could barely hear the rushing off water over the noise of the machine now and now knew he was close. He didn't bother looking back, instead he jumped of he banks of the roaring waters and plunged into the rigid water that awaited, sweeping him away, his legs thrashing mindlessly to reach the surface for a breath, after the cold shock made him release his breath. With the water in his ears, he couldn't hear the flying beast after him but before he could make sure to grab a quick breath of air or see if the thing did infant loose him, his eyes closed. Seeping blackness o his vision in splotches and then all over, he couldn't see and his limbs went numb and right then he lost conciseness.

He awoke with a start, choking and sputtering. His lungs gasping for new breath and making him hack up water ever water was in their in horrible coughs. He shivered his body still soaked. It was sometime during the night, and the temperature had dropped. But he had lived through everything that had come at him that day. He lifted his head slowly, the movement causing it to pound. He slowly got up as well and looked at the shore of the river where he had eventually washed up. He didn't know where he was anymore. This was way farther down the river and from home territory than he had ever been. He sighed and began to walk to find shelter so he could finally sleep peacefully....

As found a nice place a thought hit him; he would make the adventure back to herd lands, he'd never told her how he felt, or his feelings, now she might never know now. He had to find her one last time.

Equid's name: Meiseri
Height: 14,2 hh
Age: 4
Gender: Stallion
Story: The world all but gone from what he once knew now, waking from terrors on a cold dark night. The nightmares, they plagued him. Nightmares of the past no to long ago, haunted him every night, over and over again, until the tears ran down his face. He had not really slept since then.

It was a peaceful day, a beautiful day none like any other. The birds where chirping, butterflies all abound, and you could just smell honeysuckle everywhere. This was Meiseri's home, a huge clearing in the wood, very near to the river. He lived there with his family mostly but sometimes others would pass through and stay for a while. He always enjoyed the company of the newcomers, listening to the tales they told, of far off places and adventures they had. Oh how he wanted to do that some day, just go off and explore the world around him. But alas, he could never leave his family, they would surely worry about him. He remembered this and started to sulk, "well maybe someday" he muttered with a sigh. He closed his eyes to daydream for a minute about what might be out there, when suddenly he was startled by an extremely loud noise. His eyes jolted open, turning to look around in every direction. He decided to go investigate direction of the sound, and left into the wood.

After hours of wandering aimlessly through the woods, it had become apparent that Meiseri had gotten lost trying to find his mystery sound. It was getting darker by the second and he was getting more and more discouraged. He tried to smell the air, thinking that maybe he could smell the scent of his family, but he wiffed something else, it smelled delicious. So he followed the smell all the way to something he had never came across before...a man's camp. He heard from the travelers' stories of these things they called man and their so-called camps. He scoured the area looking for signs of movement, but found none. "There's nothing here?" he thought, "how boring." The fire was bright, the smell coming from the cooking pot over top. He pondered for a while on whether or not he should eat the, obviously food, in the pot. Decidedly the smell was too good to leave it alone so he stuck his tongue into the pot to get a taste and "ouch" he let out a noise of such pain. It was way to hot, burning his tongue. He stood there for while with his tongue sticking out, it burned so bad, he was scared it wasn't going to stop. When it stopped hurting, he stuck the tongue back in his mouth, and pressed on in his snooping into things at the camp. There were two sizable tents in which there were all sorts of new and exciting things to check out. He ventured into one of them and gasped at what he saw, there where piles of animal skins everywhere. His ears fell back and his jaw dropped. Terrified out of his mind he blazed out of the tent door and out of the camp, running as fast as he could. He never once stopped to look back. In the dark though he was having a hard time seeing where he was going and after running straight for a few minutes he tripped in a hole. As he was lying there trying to regain his composure, he heard screams and paused for a moment...IT WAS HIS FAMILY!

Dashing trough the woods as fast as his feet would carry him, trying so hard to follow the screams. He finally came upon it, his home, was up in a blaze of fire. Although terrified he could hear his mother's screaming amidst the fire and without a second thought, plunged in to try and find her. He looked in every direction fire roaring in his face at every turn. He called to her so distraught, with tears running down his face. She yelled back to him, he turned around, and there she was pinned under a log. He pushed and pulled but couldn't budge it. He resorted to headbutting it and crying so hard he was almost blind from tears. The fire kept rising, and began to break down right there beside his mother, the whole time wondering where his father was as well, not hearing him at all from any direction. Just then his mother nudged him with her nose, looked him in the eye and told him to go. He was reluctant and stubborn, he wouldn't budge. "I love you, I will always love you" she said with tears in her eyes. "Now GO!" she yelled. He sobbed, nodded and ran, fire closing in all around him. He was trapped. Just as he laid down to admit defeat, smoke inhalation starting to black him out, something grabbed the nape of his neck and yanked him out, dragging him to safety.

When he came to, he looked to the right of him, his father standing there stern as always, just staring at the fire with a solemn look on his face. He began to cry which Meiseri never saw his father do. His father had come looking for him, so he was not there when the fire broke out. Powerless to do anything. He turned to gaze at his son, at least he was safe. A sad smile adorned his face when, an arrow, wizzed by, grazing his cheek. They both turned to look, it was man. "Run son!" his father said. They bolted further into the woods, faster and faster Meiseri ran, until eventually he was the only one left. Such sorrow and despair flooded his entire body. He was now all alone, left to the world.

A couple years have passed and still the memories haunt him. They have left him bitter and disdained towards this new world of man. The humans are never to be trusted...forever they will burn hate within him.

EDIT: Had to edit and cut it down some, but it's 1000 words exactly now :D!

Equid's name: Auden [old english name meaning "old friend"]
Height: 14,2 hh
Age: 17 years old
Gender: Stallion
Story:
The stallion watched the boy, his shivering, crumpled form splayed out helplessly at the beast's feet.
Run. He'll kill you. Run before they can chase you.
He remained motionless, long ears and kind eyes still focused on the human even as the rest of his body was prepared to run. He couldn't just leave the boy to die. He was old enough to know that the boy, even without his injuries, would be dead by morning. It was too cold to be alone out here, even the toughest of predators retreated to their dens in weather like this.
Run.
A snort escaped the equid, massive head inching curiously forward. The human- clearly one of their young, and not unlike a foal; looked innocent enough. His wide eyes darted from side to side before finally settling upon the white beast. He immediately drew back, scrambling backwards before once again doubling over in pain.
"Don't hurt me," he whimpered, one arm held out protectively in front of him, "Please..."
Hardly the reaction one would expect of a seasoned hunter.

Men have killed plenty of your own, why save this one?
He'll grow into a killer! They'll come back for him, they'll kill you!

Auden walked slowly forward, sniffing the human before laying down beside him and curling his tail around their broken form. He'd stay with him, just for tonight. It was cold, after all, and he could use the company. He settled down to sleep, keeping a watchful eye on his new companion.
He could feel a gentle hand on his forehead, then the word "Friend."

Too bad that they are sterile now... but I guess it will just ultimately narrow down the number of people entering. Still love him <3

Equid's name: Camdenn
Height: 14,2 hh
Age: 6 Years
Gender: Stallion
Story: (704 Words. ^^)
Something- something that Camdenn couldn't quite make out - was wrong with the world. All was not as it should be. The light was dim and almost orange, cast from the sun which was peering over the mountains in the distance. While the air of his mountain home was usually a bit chilly early in the morning, there was something amiss that the stud disliked about it terribly. It had a heartless feel to it, rather than what usually made him feel so at home.

His feathery tail whipped around behind him nervously, much like a cat would do when someone dared to disturb it. The tip, like he had dipped it in ink, flicked about, making the grass and leaves around him flutter.

Every muscle in the equid's body was tensed and quivering, ready for him to bolt at the slightest sign that he might be in danger. His deep eyes scanned his home slowly and carefully and soon his gaze rested on an unfamiliar shape in the grass.

Camdenn had travelled this part of the mountains too many times to count. Not once had he spotted such a thing. He hardly had time to ponder this, because less than a breath later, he knew the reason things felt so terribly off.

The shape - found to be a terrible, hulking beast - emerged from the grass. It seemed to triple in size as it rose to stand on four, thick legs. Camdenn now could see its massive claws and slobbery jaws at it towered over him by a foot or so.

For a moment, they both stood and stared at the other. However, the stallion decided that he best not stick around and shot like a bullet the opposite direction. As Camdenn made the first move, his nightmare's beast let out a furious roar. It seemed to shake the ground as the equid ran for his life.

He let his legs do the thinking for him. The only clear thought that echoed within his skull was the word RUN.

The two creatures twisted and ran over the rocky terrain of Camdenn's territory. Even though the equid thought he knew this land like the back of his own hoof, it seemed that the beast knew it even better. His winding path didn't seem to deter his pursuer, and he felt as if he was making no ground in getting to safety. Every turn that he took and path he thought was his knowledge only, the nightmare was able to follow him.

The equid was sweaty and exhausted. His limbs were aching, strikingly resembling the reality he knew he left behind for the night. However, the chase was not letting up. Every stride, it felt as if the beast's terrifying jaws were closing in closer and closer to his tail. A few times, he believed he even felt the longest hairs touch the beast's nose.

Camdenn was forced to skid to a stop, sending pebbles over the edge of a cliff he had no idea existed. Dark water churned and roared below and he shuddered. He was backed as close as he cold to the edge without being forced to plummet towards his certain doom.

The beast had stopped a few feet away. Its tongue lolled out of its mouth and it drooled a bit. The stench it's dark, greasy fur let out was almost as horrifying as the creature itself.

Camdenn squinted his eyes shut and tensed his body as it lunged forward and he waited for the impact that never seemed to come.

The equid woke with a start. The whites of his eyes were clearly visible and his neck was slick with nervous sweat. He began to run, the fear of his nightmare still clinging to his fur as if it was still happening. It took a few minutes before he finally allowed himself to slow and then stop; realizing that the best was no longer directly on his tail.

He was still panting when a bird fluttered out of the grass nearby, making him spook and leap to the side. Shortly after, however, Camdenn regained his senses enough to begin a walk to coax the fear out of his system.
