Equid's name:
Calliope {Pronounced Call-EYE-Oh-Fee}, named after one of the muses in Greek myths. Calliope is specifically the muse of epic poetry
Story:
The small waves of the lake lapped up against the shore as the pinto and brindled filly's head shot up. Awoken from her deep slumber, she stretched her jaws into a yawn as she blinked in the direction of her dozing parents. They slept beside each other with fluffed tail intertwined and their heads nuzzled together. A small smile crossed Calliope's face as she found her footing shakily and stretched out each leg in turn. First the front left, then the right, then the back left, and then the back right, until she was feeling nimble and somewhat-awake. With prancing steps, the little filly pranced over to the pair of equids, her head held high, as she nudged both Freddy and Raelyn with her muzzle in turn. The frost had edged along the filly's back and shattered as she gave her thick winter coat a shake. "The frost has come, the sun did rise, but soon winter is before our eyes." She rhymed, her sapphire eyes twinkling. Even at such a young age she spoke in rhymes and poems for fun.
As her mother and father both slowly woke, blinking into the bright sunlight, greeting each other for the day ahead. As Freddy stood, the young mare stepped into his shadow, huddling close to her beloved father. Her golden, and white based coat stood out against his own dun coat in the morning sunlight, and she blinked up at him. "From the sunrise to the set, what will we be doing next?" She asked, referring to their journey. As a filly she was quiet and thoughtful, always thinking before she spoke, and quite compassionate like her sire. Most definitely was she a daddy's girl, taking after him quite a lot in her personality, but was still quite close to her mother.
Her father, unsure of an answer himself, gave a semi-reassuring smile. "Wherever the wind takes us. As long as we're together." Her mother, moving in closer to nuzzle her foal, nodded. "Of course."
With that, Callie kicked up her heels in the brisk morning air, her fluffy filly mane bouncing as she weaved around her parents joyously. "Into the mountains, into the sun! Nothing matters, for we are one!" She whinnied, stopping between Raelyn and Freddy with an endless smile stretched across her face, ready to face the journey ahead.
{Oh my gosh, I love her so much. Just through writing this short story, I've fallen deeper and deeper in love with her design. <3 Good Luck to anyone else entering this contest! ^-^ }
