Equid's name:
Calliope {Pronounced Call-EYE-Oh-Fee}, named after one of the muses in Greek myths. Calliope is specifically the muse of epic poetry

Story:
The small waves of the lake lapped up against the shore as the pinto and brindled filly's head shot up. Awoken from her deep slumber, she stretched her jaws into a yawn as she blinked in the direction of her dozing parents. They slept beside each other with fluffed tail intertwined and their heads nuzzled together. A small smile crossed Calliope's face as she found her footing shakily and stretched out each leg in turn. First the front left, then the right, then the back left, and then the back right, until she was feeling nimble and somewhat-awake. With prancing steps, the little filly pranced over to the pair of equids, her head held high, as she nudged both Freddy and Raelyn with her muzzle in turn. The frost had edged along the filly's back and shattered as she gave her thick winter coat a shake. "The frost has come, the sun did rise, but soon winter is before our eyes." She rhymed, her sapphire eyes twinkling. Even at such a young age she spoke in rhymes and poems for fun.

As her mother and father both slowly woke, blinking into the bright sunlight, greeting each other for the day ahead. As Freddy stood, the young mare stepped into his shadow, huddling close to her beloved father. Her golden, and white based coat stood out against his own dun coat in the morning sunlight, and she blinked up at him. "From the sunrise to the set, what will we be doing next?" She asked, referring to their journey. As a filly she was quiet and thoughtful, always thinking before she spoke, and quite compassionate like her sire. Most definitely was she a daddy's girl, taking after him quite a lot in her personality, but was still quite close to her mother.

Her father, unsure of an answer himself, gave a semi-reassuring smile. "Wherever the wind takes us. As long as we're together." Her mother, moving in closer to nuzzle her foal, nodded. "Of course."

With that, Callie kicked up her heels in the brisk morning air, her fluffy filly mane bouncing as she weaved around her parents joyously. "Into the mountains, into the sun! Nothing matters, for we are one!" She whinnied, stopping between Raelyn and Freddy with an endless smile stretched across her face, ready to face the journey ahead.

{Oh my gosh, I love her so much. Just through writing this short story, I've fallen deeper and deeper in love with her design. <3 Good Luck to anyone else entering this contest! ^-^ }

Since she's going up I wanted to gather the pieces of art I've got for her. I don't think this is all of it, but I can't seem to find the rest! It's probably on my old comp which is out of commission at the moment. If I find more I'll pass them along to the new owner. A couple of the pieces are with her momma, who I hope she'll still be close to.

Fraelyn called out before leaving.
I draw origonal art of... Kiamara's and JBDs. I'm really good. I really want a fluffy, folded eared JBD. (: I draw art of her all of the time, just without markings.

Equid's name: Patience
Story: Patience gazed at the ice-covered grass, amazed at the way every blade sparkled in the morning sun. There were icicles on the trees and every blade of grass was covered in a thin casing of ice. It was her first winter, and she was amazed how the ice had seemingly appeared overnight. But it wouldn't last forever. Already drops were forming on the tips of those icicles that were hit by the sunlight. One icicle dripped onto Patience's nose, and she squealed at first with surprise, and then with delight at the excitement of something new. She began to run around, enjoying the way the frozen grass crunched under her hooves. Her parents, Raelyn and Freddy smiled at each other, both excited for their daughter.
Finally, after a few minutes of running around, Patience was tired. She flopped onto the grass near her parents' hooves, then started up again once she felt the cold wetness of the grass. She shook once, then smiled up at her parents with her clear blue eyes. Freddy looked serious, but smiled. "We have to tell you something sweetie." Patience looked confused. "What is it, momma?"
Raelyn nuzzled her. "Now that you're older, there are going to be some changes. You're going to be going somewhere else. We'll still be close, but you won't be with us all the time anymore. You're getting older every day."
Patience stomped her hoof, making a loud crunch in the stiff, frozen grass. "No. I'm going to stay right with you forever and ever."
"No, you can't. You're going to grow up, and though you may always stay close to us, you cannot stay right beside us forever. When you get older you'll understand. You won't want to stay here forever, trust me."
Patience's blue eyes blazed. "No I won't. How could you send me away when I don't want to go?" She looked like she was about to burst into tears.
Freddy spoke urgently, "No, we aren't sending you away. We're giving you more freedom. You may go with another herd, but you won't be going far. We'll always be close enough to hear you if you call."
Patience just looked to the ground and glared. Raelyn and Freddy exchanged worried looks. Raelyn nuzzled her daughter again. "We have to go now, sweetie. We need to move on."
Patience didn't say anything. She didn't even acknowledge that her mother had spoken. But she started walking in the direction her parents led her. So the rest of the day went on without a single word being spoken.
When they laid down to rest for the night, Patience stayed a few feet away from her parents. Freddy stood lookout, only dozing while standing up. Raelyn carefully moved towards Patience. The filly was shivering with the cold. Raelyn spoke in her ear. "Come lay next to me. I'll keep you warm."
Patience, looking miserable, laid next to her mother.
Raelyn gently nickered softly. "I promise I'll never be far from you, Patience. You may grow up, but you'll always be my little filly."
Patience looked up, her blue eyes shining in the dark. "You promise you won't leave me alone?"
Raelyn nuzzled her. "I promise."
Patience then snuggled close to her mother, and instantly fell asleep.
