Story: Blistrin was grazing on a beautiful warm, sunny day. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and all the animals were in their peaceful stat. Though, a soft thunder from afar came into ear shot. When she looked up, there was an airplane soaring overhead with black smoke flowing from it, and then stuff falling from it. Blistrin and other equids around her ran from where the large objects were expected to land. As she was taking shelter under trees, a crash sound it the one she was under. Looking up, saw a smaller box hop from branch to branch as it came down. She jumped out of the way as it hit the ground with a high-pitched squeaky noise. Blistrin nudged the box with her nose and was pecked by a beak coming out of one of the holes. It startled her and stood up tall with a snort, glaring at the vicious box that attacked her. It started to move and wobble all about when there it opened up and a small bird was looking at her. The two animals just stood, starring at one another. Blistrin sniffed the critter and with a gleeful whinny shook her tail and tapped her hooves. Their eye connection somehow brought them together in a sense of comfort and familiarity.

Equid's Name: Haijulikani, or Lika for short. This means 'Unknown' in Swahili, because to me, she looks just so mysterious and beautiful, like something out of the mist.
Height: 14 hh
Age: 2 1/2 years.
Gender: Mare
Story: A clatter beyond her in the rocks caused the long-legged mare to lift her regal head through the thick morning mist. She drew in a long breath, before letting out a soft whinny. "Hello? Is anyone there?" She called tentatively, her voice ringing and echoing through the canyon. "Anyone there?... Anyone there?... Anyone there?..." Her voice echoed back. Hearing nothing, she lowered her head to continue crunching the sparse grass growing through the cracks in the rocks. Pitter-Patter.... Her head shot up. There it was again! This time she brought down her hoof hard on the rock, her eyes now blazing. "Show yourself!" She snorted, trying to hide the fear in her voice. Lika whinnied with fear as a long-legged bird that looked creepily similar to her shot out of a small burrow in the rock, weaving quickly around her feet before skidding into a halt in front of her. "Huh. A bird." She commented with annoyance. But as she did so, she lowered her head in curiosity, looking into it's eyes. "You don't seem dangerous. Just like a figure of the mist, someone who isn't often seen... Like me." Lika's voice was slightly mournful, and the bird seemed to sense her loneliness. It took a step closer after hesitating a moment, only to touch her muzzle with it's beak... almost as if in a sense of comfort. Lika's confidence wavered, and she blinked her crimson eyes slowly. "T-Thank you..." She whispered with a shaky voice, her eyes tearing up. The leggy bird backed away to shake out it's feathers, then glanced at the lone mare with a long and sweet note, before stretching it's wings and taking off into the sky. Lika watched as it disappeared into the morning sunset, watching the mist fade away and the sun banishing the darkness for the world. A new day....

Equid's Name: Baria, pronouced bar - E - ah , almost like Maria but with a B
Height: 14 hh
Age: 6 years old
Gender: Mare
Story: Baria moved slowly though the lush grassland, head down, grazing contentedly when she spotted a small nest in the midst of a patch of ground where all the grass had been scratched away into a bowl depression. She kept her nose down by it and sniffed at it, noticing the two olive brown eggs in it when she turned her head to the side slightly. A sharp quero!quero! reached her sensitive ears and she startled slightly, shying backwards. A small bird dove down and almost hit her head, shrilling aggressively. Baria backed up, almost stumbling over her legs. The bird continued it's defense of it's nest, coming back around for another dive. Baria turned tail and bolted. No way was she going to deal with an angry mother bird trying to protect it's nest.

Story: My earliest memory is of me and my grandfather. It was dusk, and Grandpap was telling me about something called Heaven. The old equid leaned in and said, "One day, I'll be in heaven too. When the time comes, remember these words of mine: No one inherits freedom. What is inherited, is the ability to fight for it." I pondered the words only briefly, for a colt's attention span is very short. Two days later, Grandpap died.
I grew up with a loving father and mother, and they gave me a wonderful colthood. However, one day, everything changed. Men that rode on equid-like creatures showed up. They hollered to one another, and rushed at us on horseback. The herd ran. Before we knew what had happened, we were being chased into the mountains. I noticed a young colt begin to trail behind, and our pursuers us were gaining on him. On instinct, I spun and placed myself between the humans and my herd, my family, rearing. I had a rough loop of rope around my neck before my hooves hit the ground. Soon, I was being pulled from my family, and the only life I'd ever known. Fear began to flash off of me in waves, but when I looked back and saw that my family was safe, I knew I made the right choice.
For the next month, I remember being auctioned to the humans. A new chapter of my life began. I quickly found myself penned up in a small pasture with one other equid named Nyre, who was old and deteriorating quickly. For about a year, my days were filled with tasteless hay and musty water. At night, Nyre and I exchanged stories about times when we were wild and free.
Things soon changed again. People in blue invaded my owner's land, with more ropes and more cars. As I was being led into the trailer, I tried to whinny to Nyre, who was laying down in the pasture. Then, it hit me: Nyre was dying.
There was a long trailer ride after that. As we were passing into a lush forest that smelled of rain and so many exotic species, an intriguing brown bird landed on one of the trailer's windows. We spoke for some time-I told him about captivity, and he reminded me of what freedom's like. Just before he left, he said, "I remember my dad once said no one inherits freedom. What is inherited, is the ability to fight for it." Then, he was gone.
From then on, I vowed to fight for my freedom, and I knew I'd see my herd again some day.

Story:

What was the first thing her little eyes focused on? That...thing, the thing over there. Even though she was so new to the world the being not too far off was smaller than her.
It only had two legs. She could feel that she had four and she mustered the energy to use them. She wanted to meet the creature.
She felt her mother's tongue as she was cleaned. Still, she did not so much as glance at her. That thing...
She forced out a sound, the very first time she used her voice. The weak call frightened the creature. Suddenly, it seemed to sprout two more, strangely formed legs. It flapped its forelegs (which were decorated the same as the body) and took to the sky.
She watched it, thrilled. What a wonderful world she had come into.

Story:
It was an unusually sunny day in my mountainside home and the sun's breathe was warm against my shoulders. I, living a solitary life at the time, decided to venture off to explore. I hadn't stayed in this part of the mountains for long and the last thing that I would've wanted is someone to discover that I had intruded onto their turf. Not only would it be rude, but I would practically be asking to be chased or fought out of the area. I trotted to the bottom of the nearest hill and approached dense forest. As I walked further inward the silence grabbed at me. Why was it so quiet? I cracked a twig under my hoof and the unnerving sound caused me to jump. When I caught my breathe the silence returned. I once again continued so that I may reach the center of this thickly forested terrain. My eyes caught sight of a waddling creature. As it got closer I realized that it was being attacked by a much smaller beast. The sounds got louder and my ears were not at all fond of the hissing and chirping. A badger had raided a nest and was being chased by the eggs' parent. What a horrible beast, the badger! Tormenting animals smaller than itself. Its positively treacherous. I reared my head and neighed with dissapproval, then took off in the direction of the monster and its tormented follower. I didn't know how I could help out but did my best. Nipping and pushing and pawing with my forehooves. When I decided that my punishent was over I slowed my gait and the terrified badger dropped something. It was an egg. The bird swooped down to the ground and let out a tired sigh. It hopped over to the lone egg and rubbed against it. At that moment I noticed the birds strange coloring. It was certainly not a species that I had ever layed my eyes upon. In fact, its plumage reminded me an awful lot of my own coat. The bird helplessly glanced up at me. It was obviously too tired to return to the nest, much less roll the egg back. I did the poor thing a second favor and picked the egg up in my mouth. I allowed the small creature to rest atop my head and it secured itself to my mane with its talons. I thought that I'd be taking them to safety but this bird had a ground nest. It was right on the forest floor where anything could reach it. I took a leaf from a large maple tree and covered the egg. The mother bird gave me a thankful nod and sat upon her maple leaf house. After continuing my adventure I discovered that the area seemed to be empty. Other equids were no where to be seen. I decided to make this my home, and nowadays I often visit my flying friend and her young son whom we named Maple. Not only are equid sightings scarce, but since that day I haven't seen a single badger.

Gender: Mare
Story:

Regina nibbled at the bright green grass under the warm spring sun. A breeze ruffled her fur and she threw her head up suddenly, realizing it was the perfect day to explore! The impulsive equid immediately set off at a jog towards a thick forest. She broke until a canter with excitement and leapt over a berry bush at the edge of the woods. She dodged tree here and there then slowed to a walk to take in her surroundings. She looked at the canopy overhead, only allowing splotches of the bright sunlight through. Butterflies flew about and birds dashed through the air from tree to tree. Regina saw a “light at the end of the tunnel,” which was really just the edge of the woods. She broke into a steady canter and ran out into the sunlight.

Regina saw a beautiful sight. A waterfall poured endlessly before her eyes into a small river, which ran down the hill side. The grass was long and the brightest green Regina had ever seen. Wild flowers dappled the grass’s surface and created a beautiful contrast. Regina trotted through the chest length grass towards the waterfall, stirring up many colorful butterflies. When Regina reached the edge of the pool below the waterfall she sipped from its crystal clear, pure water. She waded in and noticed a little baby bird on the other side of the pool. She swam to the other side and noticed other grown birds. These birds were called Quero-Quero.

Thinking that the baby Quero-Quero was simply adorable Regina walked up to it. She bent her head down and sniffed it. Soon she heard a loud, insistent, squawking coming form behind her. The squawks sounded angry, and boy, they were! Regina looked at the strange adult Quero-Quero who held their wings out by their sides, revealing small orange spike. Regina had never seen a bird with spikes on its wings and was very intrigued by these Quero-Quero. She walked over to an adult one and put her had down to look at it. The Quero-Quero thought she was attacking them and all the birds rushed at her with their spikes out. Some flew at her sides, while others just scratched Regina’s legs.

Regina jumped away from the ferocious birds and ran through the pool. They squawked at her angrily even once she reached the other side, as if to say “and stay away!” Regina looked at the birds once more then licked her small cuts and set off for home, never to anger another Quero-Quero again, although she was still very fascinated by the strange bird.

She's gorgeous! And it was a lot of fun writing that (: Haha I really want to see a Quero-Quero now!
