Username: jesus4ever
Horse's Name: Shiloh "Shi"[Shy] (Means: Abundance; Fruitfulness; Gift)
Gender: Mare
Height: 16hh
Story: The Secret (Doing it from a person's point of view but in the last paragraph it switches to the DAM's point of view, hope you like it!)
A man sat in a maroon recliner, reading through a book about horse stories, not forgetting the time he met a Desert Appaloosa Mustang. Then, a soft hand ran through his black hair and he glanced up before digging into the book again.
"Hey Aaron. Reading that book again?" his wife, Linda asked. Her red hair framed carefully around her face as her blue eyes glistened in the dim light coming from the fan. Aaron stared at his wife, smiling a bit before nodding once. Suddenly, screaming filled the air as two children ran into the room. Anna, Linda and Aaron's daughter, cradled a white and red taffy leopard horse that Aaron had carved out of wood, screeching with delight as her twin brother, Luke came chasing after her with a cowboy doll and a regular male doll.
"You won't catch me old cowboy!" Anna cried out, ending her sentence with a whinny as she ran around the coffee table. Linda widened her eyes and tried to calm them down but the children wouldn't listen.
"Just watch," Luke replied with the cowboy and he switched his voice to the male doll. "Stop it you cowboy!" Anna yelped and tried to make a beeline for the male doll with her wooden horse but Luke immediately stopped her with his cowboy. At that moment, Anna slammed into the coffee table and landed on her back, dropping the wooden horse. Aaron shot up and out of his chair, picking up Anna and the wooden horse carefully as Linda squatted and fixed the coffee table. With a sigh, Aaron sat down again with Anna in his lap while Luke climbed up onto his dad's lap as well.
"Please be more careful!" Linda exclaimed but Aaron shushed her carefully. Aaron then looked at the digital clock right next to him, seeing that it was 8:30 PM.
"Okay you two. You want me to tell you another story tonight?" Aaron asked with mischief in his eyes. The two kids nodded eagerly as their father took the dolls and the horse away from them, getting ready to tell the story of how he found a Desert Appaloosa Mustang. "Okay. Many years ago, there was a young man, and he loved horses very much. This man looked like you Luke, and his name was..." Aaron trailed off, trying not to reveal that he himself was the man in the story. "Uh, Jack. Jack would always go out into the desert and look for... Desert Appaloosa Mustangs!"
"Desert Appaloosa Mustangs?" Anna echoed in awe, watching as her father nodded.
"Yes indeed. Anyways, he rarely spotted one, and when he did, they would run away too quickly and he would lose their tracks. However, one day, when he was thirteen years old, Jack snuck out at night, when the desert temperatures were okay. He was determined and knew that he would be able to find one and catch it." Aaron paused, waiting for his kids to ask questions, but none of them spoke. "He searched for hours and finally, he saw her!" Aaron held up the Red Taffy Leopard wooden horse for his kids to see and they looked too astonished to speak. "The mare, which is what you call a female horse, looked at Jack and the two stared at each other for a long time. Finally, Jack stepped forward slowly and waited. Then, the mare walked towards him until they were only three feet away from each other!"
"Wow! Was he scared?" Luke exclaimed.
"Yes, Jack was very scared. He was afraid that the Desert Appaloosa Mustang would run away. With a gulp, Jack stepped forward and held out his hand, looking away. He could feel the Red Taffy Leopard's gaze on him and he felt vibrations as the mare with the long mane and tail stepped forward. After a few seconds, Jack could feel her warm breath on his hand before he felt fur as soft as velvet, come in contact. Jack finally looked and smiled before feeling afraid again. He couldn't move! The mare stared at him and he looked back but not into her teal eyes. 'Do not be afraid young one.' Jack widened his eyes, realizing that the mare had spoken to him with her mind!" Aaron stopped and smiled, remembering that memory well.
"What happened next?" the twins asked in unison.
"Oh right. Jack was surprised and said, 'Why should I not be afraid?' The mare shook out her long mane before answering calmly. 'You're afraid that I'll run away. But I know you won't hurt me and I know you wanted to find me, your treasure.' The mare continued to stare at him and Jack turned towards her. He then nodded and asked if she would like to be named, but she shook her head. 'I already have a name, it's Shiloh.' answered the mare and Jack smiled, introducing himself. After a while the sun peeked over the horizon and Jack widened his eyes and said, 'I need to go home!' After saying farewell, he ran off, promising to meet Shiloh again the next night. When Jack got home, he was just in time for breakfast and was about to tell his family about Shiloh, the Desert Appaloosa Mustang, but he realized he could endanger the breed, so he kept quiet." Aaron blinked a few times and studied the wooden horse for a few moments.
"Shiloh. What a nice name!" exclaimed Anna with bright eyes as her brother agreed.
"Yeah it is. In the afternoon, rain had come and Jack knew it was because he had spotted Shiloh. Whenever a human saw a long-haired Desert Appaloosa Mustang, rain would come to the desert. That night, Jack met up with Shiloh again and they were happy to see each other. 'I wanted to tell my family about you, but I didn't because I was afraid that they would come looking.' Jack murmured and Shiloh lifted her grand head, looking up at the stars. 'You did the right thing, you mustn't tell anyone about me.' Shiloh replied with wisdom in your voice. 'Come, let's go for a walk.' Shiloh started to walk away and Jack followed. Suddenly, Shiloh challenged him to a race and Jack accepted the challenge. Every time though, Shiloh would win. Finally, Jack called it quits and went home. Ever since they met each other, they would meet each other again and again, while rain came to Jack's home. A few weeks later, Jack decided to mount Shiloh-."
"Wait! What does mounted mean?!" Luke interrupted with curiosity in his tone.
"Mounted means to get on something. Please don't interrupt. Anyways, Jack mounted Shiloh but she quickly bucked and he fell off. 'Stop! What are you doing?' Shiloh asked with a snort, her teal eyes filled with fear. 'I'm just trying to ride you. Can I get on your back? I'm sorry for scaring you.' Jack said with teary eyes. After a long time, Shiloh allowed him to do it and Jack got on more carefully this time. Once he got on he squeezed his legs against her sides and the beautiful mare broke into a skittish walk."
"She... Broke?! So she, died?!" Anna asked, ready to cry as Aaron smacked his face with his right hand, letting it slide off.
"No, she started to move, that's what I meant, now please don't interrupt." Aaron replied with pleading eyes. "So, Shiloh started to walk carefully, but Jack calmed her down by rubbing his hand against her neck. Shiloh began to trust him with riding and she lowered her head blissfully. After a few minutes, he squeezed her sides again and pushed her into a trot, which is a jog. Her trot was smooth but it was bouncy, so Jack grabbed onto her long, black-and-white mane in order to stay on. Together in the night, Shiloh and Jack moved together like they were one. After a while, Jack got off and pulled a carrot out of his back pocket and gave it to Shiloh, who ate it happily. Then, Jack returned home again and rain came once more. Jack's sister," Aaron hesitated before deciding to disguise his sister, Bethany in the story, just like he did with himself. "Valerie, suspected something was up and told their father about it. The father called his friend afterwards and asked if he would like to go on a mission. His friend agreed and together, they followed Jack the next night. They made sure that they went unnoticed as they watched Jack ride the Desert Appaloosa Mustang and give her a treat afterwards.
"'That mare, it's a Desert Appaloosa Mustang!' exclaimed the friend, whose name was Matthew. 'We should catch her, and I believe she has a herd. Maybe we could use her to catch others!' The father nodded and followed Jack home at dawn with his friend, as they planned a way to capture the Desert Appaloosa Mustang. After a month of planning, Matthew went out one night an hour before Jack with Jack's father following on a Quarter Horse gelding, making sure he wasn't spotted. When they got to the spot where Jack always met Shiloh, Jack's father hid with a lasso in his hand as Matthew walked up to where the Desert Appaloosa Mustang was waiting for Jack. When Shiloh realized he wasn't Jack, she whinnied and ran off, causing many other Desert Appaloosa Mustangs to come to her to help her. Jack had heard his friend when he was going to visit her and he ran towards her. When he got there, his father had already captured her with his lasso and Jack had spotted other Desert Appaloosa Mustangs. While Shiloh writhed with the lasso around her neck, she cried out to Jack and he ran over to her. For a few seconds, Shiloh calmed down and Jack got on. 'Why did you tell your family? I told you not to!' Shiloh said softly. 'I didn't I promise!' Jack replied and Shiloh sighed. 'Okay, I trust you.' she replied as Jack got the lasso off of her neck.
"Then, Jack pulled at his end of the rope and his father fell off of the gelding. 'Sorry Dad!' Jack called as Matthew grabbed the rope and tried to capture the other Desert Appaloosa Mustangs. 'Oh no you don't!' Jack cried out, anger flowing in his voice. 'Wait! You don't understand! Your father and I are trying to get the horses to safety.' Matthew lied while Shiloh snorted. 'Getting us to safety, my hoof.' she nickered as Jack rubbed her neck. 'Go home now!' Shiloh exclaimed at the other Desert Appaloosa Mustangs and they ran off as Jack urged Shiloh into a canter and they moved towards Matthew. Matthew then yelped and ran off, tripping in the sand as he yelled and cried. 'Dad, please go. I just wanted her to be safe. Can you leave, for me?' Jack murmured as he dismounted. The father nodded and got back on his mount and rode home.
"'Shiloh. I don't think it's safe for us to meet anymore. I think it's time for us to let go.' Jack said sadly as he stroked Shiloh's soft nose. Shiloh lowered her head and let out a whinny that sounded like weeping. 'I think it's time too. You were a great friend, and I will never forget you.' Shiloh nickered sadly. Jack then wrapped his arms around Shiloh's neck and hugged her, crying hard. 'You'll have to leave now. It was nice knowing you.' Jack whispered as he stepped back. After a few seconds, Shiloh turned and looked back before running away, her long mane and tail flowing in the wind. Jack then went back home and never forgot his friend, who may still be roaming the desert sands today. The end." Aaron ended his story and looked down at his children as they blinked their eyes sleepily.
"I liked that story." Anna murmured with a yawn after her father returned the wooden horse to her hands.
"Me too." Luke agreed as he got out of his father's lap with Anna and with the dolls back in his hands.
"Time to go to bed you two. Go to your room and I'll tuck you in." Linda said with a small chuckle as she hugged the twins before they went to their room. Then, Aaron picked up his book again with a sigh, and was about to read it until his wife kissed him on the forehead and stood before him.
"Yes Linda?" Aaron asked softly, seeing light concern in her eyes.
"I just wish you would stop filling their minds with silly stories and myths." she murmured before turning on her heel and exiting the room.
"But that story was true." Aaron whispered as he looked at the time, seeing that it was 9:00 PM. Then, he sighed and returned to his book, not noticing the shadow outside the window.
Outside, a Desert Appaloosa Mustang stood, her teal eyes gazing at her old friend's house. "Aaron, I will never forget you." she nickered with her ears pointed towards the window that Aaron was sitting next to. Shiloh had been listening the whole time and with a soft whinny, she turned before galloping into the desert once again, her beautiful mane and tail painting the night wind.
