why?: Somewhat based on the scientific name of my favorite genus of bee, Trigona! the most well-known bees in this genus are three species (T. crassipes, T. necrophaga, and T. hypogea) which are colloquially called vulture bees due to their unusual habitat of, uh. making honey out of meat to feed their young. the adults eat normal honey made of sugars harvested from rotting fruit but babies get Meat Slop I guess. I think it's a fitting name with that genus in mind because even the non-vulture species in this genus are really neat. Trigona includes some of the most aggressive stingless bees yet discovered!! some are willing to bite would-be hive attackers so hard their heads suffer structural damage and will not let go even should they be removed from the body. they're so cool. thank you for reading this thinly-veiled excuse to talk about my favorite weird bees. source on this is weird. found it on image search but the source page that was linked didn't even have the image on it, at least on mobile. reverse search took me to the stock footage it came from (and an AI site that had scraped it... :( ) but even that doesn't have the gif itself anywhere. ghosts made it a gif ig. here's the source for the stock footage at least.
