Minnow collects because it was an old tradition her and her husband held; every time they visited the nearby beach, they'd try to impress each other with beautiful seashells and funny starfish. Even with him gone, she still collects them, a small reminder to him, and the good times they shared.

Prompt: Word around the pod is that Spotted Seal is vain. He wraps herself in the shiniest, most eye-catching adornments to attract attention. Yes, sel's job is to distract the enemy -- and his accessories could help her in this task -- but she's a craftsman at heart. Few of the other hydras actually trust that Spotted Seal can do vains job, no matter how much he tries to draw attention to herself. Truly, though, it just makes Spotted Seal feel comfortable in her own fur. She struggles with gender dysphoria, especially because of her fins; shark, dolphin, and whale fins are exclusively a male trait in vains pod). Spotted Seal decorating her body with starfish and sea glass is just her way of drawing attention away from selkis fins.

She likes to collect them because they make her happy.
The shapes of the starfish are fun. In a way, they remind her of the sparkly lights she sees glimmering at the top of the ocean and in the black sky above. While she may not know what the lights are, she wonders if there is a way to travel to them to get a closer look. Is the above another ocean that cannot be reached? Is it spirits of Hydrafelis ancestors? Or are they something else entirely?
The seaglass colors soothe her. They come in such pretty shades of blue and green! Sometimes she gets very lucky and finds some brown, white, red, and yellow versions! What she cannot add to her adornments, she has several shelves to display her lovely collection.
