Magpie blinked, flicking an ear and jumping forward to the leaf littered ground before him, his ears swiveling as he stared down the smaller cat before him. “Who in the name of the angels are you?” He chirped, reaching a paw forward to bat at the smaller cat before him with curious eyes.

The other jumped back, their fur puffing out and a low sound escaped their throat. “Leave me alone!” They said, shaking their head and backing away from the other cat with their eyes shut tightly.

Magpie blinked, standing still before the other before tipping his head, “I know cats that would eat you alive.” He said after a few moments with a snicker, flicking his tail slightly behind him and sat down just watching the other with amusement as they stood shaking like a leaf.

The other slowly opened an eye, seeing Magpie just sat there with an amused little grin. His ears twitching as he leaned forward narrowing his eyes, “Boo.” He snapped his fangs in the smaller cat's face who shrieked and almost went flying backwards.

Magpie let out a loud gawf of laughter, falling back onto the dirt with wheezing breaths as the other stared at him with wide eyes “God that funny!” He said through heaves of air, head tipped back as he twitched a paw at the other, “You're funny.” He chirped.

The other monochrome feline blinked, “Who even are you?” they asked backing away slightly with unsure eyes.

Magpie looked at him before chuckling and swinging to his paws, “Magpie at your service!” He said loudly, swinging his tail wildy and bowing down slightly, “What would be your name scaredy cat?”

The other blinked before sputtering “I'm not a scaredy cat! You're just weird.” He muttered, before flicking an ear and shifting, “Jin.”

“Well Jin, I think we’re gonna be great pals!” Magpie purred, lifting a paw to groom out a piece of leaf that had gotten stuck between his claws, he watched the smaller stare at him in disbelief before they slowly shook their head with wide eyes.

Hypothetical kits from these two would likely spend most of their early years around their mother Farra, while Darian visits occasionally. As they get older, they would likely want to become hunters like both of their parents, but it's possible one might want to become a healer if they saw a parent come home with battle wounds. The potential healer kit would probably go to study under Aldro or his occasional assistant Jean who has a bit more field experience. While the other kits would choose to follow either one or the other of their parents to learn the ways of battle and strategy.

i've been meaning to put more energy in developing some of the og aspects of my lore that are in need of a revamp, and one of those things was these sorta 'portals' that a yet-to-be-made deity can create. borealis is a deity with domain over wandering and things from "the beyond", and arwyn is a silly little guy who wanders through the major forested region in the south-western area of the barrens. the lil fairies that follow arwyn around appeared through one of those portals, and i think it would be funny to continue to torment him with little friends who appear randomly from the beyond. picture this: 1-4 little kittens appear in front of him one day. he's like Oh God Not Again. and then i get to draw cute art of them following him around on his little journeys through the woods <3 are you sold yet /silly <3 i thought it would be cute to pair him with borealis for this because of his domain over Weird Happenings and that sort of thing. maybe he takes a particular liking to arwyn (his token comedic relief mortal) and watches over him and his little freak children

he had never even thought about having kits, let alone wanted them.
so when pico and zephyr showed up at their cave entrance with eyes so watery and shiny they looked like miniature pools (🥹), alifera was horrified. what now?

“kids. what is it?”
pico bounced in the air urgently. “dad, we found another kit just like us!! he was trapped in the snowstorm. he said his parents were gone when he woke up cold and shivering. can we left him live with us?”
the last string of words left the munchkin horrified, and he couldn’t bring himself to refuse.
however, zephyr seemed to notice he was hesitant. “dad, you took in pico from the snowstorm when i found him. why would this be any different?”
he grunted and supposed zephyr had a point.
after all, if he did turn them away, he would be no better than that kit’s own parents.

he stepped closer to the kit and starting licking him to warm him up. however, as he felt the kittens velvet soft fur, he sensed something creeping up his spine. the kit mewed and wriggled and that was when alifera noticed that he was blind in one eye. his irises were a cloudy grey and a vibrant blue, just like the colour of the ether when it was dawn.
“what’s your name, little one?”

the kit pivoted to stare into alifera’s own magenta eyes. there was a spark of something in there. alifera met the kit's mismatched gaze and saw stars. he heard melodies lost to time and space echoing in his eardrums, tasted the divine sensation of ambrosia that he never thought he would ever experience again. the ichor in his veins throbbed and he felt lightweight.

the world turned, axis rattling and shaking.
a lone shooting star fell, and everything and everyone was silent.

still, the kit said nothing. they simply stared at the barren cave walls where darkness and shadows danced, and ancient cave paintings seemed to come alive.
life thrummed and the strings of reality came undone, fabric became untethered.
alifera watched in horror as the kitten stayed eerily still. even zephyr and pico, the noisiest cats he'd ever seen were silent, watching the snowstorm outside in mute horror. the ether seemed to unravel, sky filled with technicolour rainbows. and in the middle of the raging tornado of snowflakes was a light blue eye, gazing down at them from up above.

reality shattered and was pieced back together.
alifera hissed. "the kit- it has to go."
"but father, we can't! its too dangerous. we need to let him stay. if we let him go, who knows what he might do unattended?"
pico wasn't exaggerating.

alifera swallowed and inhaled sharply.
"alright. he stays. but zephyr, i need you to keep an eye on him at all times."

"aye aye, dad."
for the first time, zephyr's green irises were filled with fear.
"never let him out of your sight."

"he could destroy worlds and even entire dimensions."

pico took a shaky step forward. "did you hear us...? what's your...name?"

they spoke in the tones of muffled whispers, the rattling of skeletons and bones, and the slow oozing of the void.
most importantly, in the humming of static.
"sonder."
