Prompt: Almond had always felt that they were out of place. The world was too soft, too good at hiding - not Almond, however. He always said that life was meant to be lived, and that meant not keeping to the shadows, and being unapologetically them. Not many around them had the same thoughts, but Almond didn't care. He lived life as a lone wolf... at least, he thought that was going to be his future.
As an adult, being a loner was easy, albeit not the most exciting thing Almond had ever wanted to do. She would travel wherever she wanted, go wherever she wanted, and take what she wanted. And she didn't realize the extent of the taking she would do until she found the empty nest.
Usually, Almond liked eating bird eggs. They were a treat, as they didn't often like the idea of taking from birds unless absolutely necessary. But this egg was different, with no parents in sight - Almond saw the shell breaking in two. He watched, fascinated by the transformation, by the way nature was so beautiful. And out hatched the ugliest bird Almond had ever seen in his life. He watched in fascination for hours as the bird emerged from the egg, squawking for parents that seemed to never come. Eventually, Almond grew bored, feeling that the poor creature was doomed to die, its parents already gone or dead as well.
The cat was about to turn tail, when overhead a hawk screeched. An idea formed. And Almond did what they did best - took for himself.

It was the hardest thing Almond had ever done, raising a creature that was not his own species. Yet, the challenge felt energizing. Almond did whatever it took to keep the hawk alive. He was rewarded with a friend, a protector; the two were always with each other, and kept each other safe. The bird hunted for Almond, and Almond for the bird. What Almond thought was going to be one sided turned into a better friendship than he had ever dared - not that the stubborn cat would admit it.
When the hawk seemed to be full-grown, it was then that Almond decided it was time to give him a name. "Alright, the day has come," Almond beckoned the hawk over, and the bird obliged happily. "Time for a name, my comrade." The hawk puffed it's chest feathers in pride, wanting to prove that he was meant to be a strong force next to Almond's side forever. "I dub you... Oathkeeper." Almond said, an idea forming while he talked to the bird.
"Oathkeeper, I don't think it should just be you and me against the world. You know..." Almond trailed off, a distant look in their eyes. "We can form a group of our own. Lead side by side. Breach gaps we never even thought possible. Take control and prove that we were meant to do more than cower in fear."
Oathkeeper, newly named, let out a low sound, which Almond took as agreement. One look into the bird's eyes proved Almond's own thinking.
Bird and cat, a new powerhouse, ready to do whatever it took to take over the world and make it
stronger.
