Big floof.
This cat recently had to clear up a misunderstanding between itself and another cat... what happened, and did they get everything cleared up?

Big preference for it being written like a story > description for this one! 👍
There's no minimum or maximum, but please don't make it super long. XD

Ends the 30th 31st at 5 PM eastern time.

Cat Name: Dandy-Do
Gender: afab nonbinary molly (she/her)
Rank: Assassin/Navigator (The Tamed/Ragtag's Greenery Park resident)
Clan: The Forgotten Farmyard
Prompt:

"So let me get this straight," a cat sniffed from the depths of the tree's shadows. "You want us to help you do what exactly?" At its base, another cat sat down with a scowl. "I need you and your...friends...to follow a group for me. Is that too much to ask?"

"Not at all, it sounds like a decent job. But, there's something I need to ask first. Who are these cats you've spoken of, old one?"

"Some rude cats that go by the name 'Beach Dwellers’. Their group is an interesting bunch, but don’t let that fool you, they’re a slippery bunch. They like to slip into our domain and take our sacred pebbles from us! Our once beautiful paths are soiled because of those fish-bone eaters! They steal our food and they dare to mock my small number of cats!”

Ragtag kept on ranting as Dandy-do listened on. “And as for those Desert cats, or whatever they're called. That rowdy bunch attacks us at any chance they get! Our precious herbs and” Ragtag spat. “Lousy good-for-nothing fleaballs! They want to take our home from us!”

The tree cat curled its tail, lost in thought. "So, what do we get in turn? My master needs more felines to follow behind zhir, we wouldn't mind having some of yours. Together as one, we can-" A hiss interrupted the cat.

The black cat bristled in rage. "Have? What do you mean by 'have'?" they snarled. "I'd outta let you know that the Ragtags are not for offer!" with their nose tilted to the sky, ze took vamps leave. "Good day, stranger. I shall do my bidding on my own."

Oh great, Hummer's going to be furious. I just lost a potential ally. And even worse, I just had to mess up my words now? Stupid Dandy-do, stupid! She had to find a solution, and fast. This cat could be a value asset to the Tamed Ones. She's been talking with this Ragtag cat for a while now, what could she do to possibly gain vamp's attention? It came to her as quickly as it left.

"Wait!" her voice squeaked a bit. She cleared her throat, she didn't want to sound desperate. “We don’t want to actually take you cats! Excuse my misinformation. The need for more felines is for us to team up against all odds.” Ragtag turned to Dandy-do. “Yeah right, you’re just playing with my brain at this point. My cats aren’t to be controlled by some snake-befriending cat! We have enough issues to deal with!

Dandy-do narrowed her eyes on the cat. This is a tricky one, its ze? She calmly climbed down the tree, her dark pelt shining under dying lights. “We aren’t trying to control you or add more issues to your paws . I hope what I said hasn't hurt your trust in us too much,” she paused, spotting an interested glint in Ragtag’s eye. “Our intentions are to help small groups, like yours, to prosper and prevail. You’d like that right?”

“Not only that, the more of us that band together, the less dangers the park may have. And we'll have more of an impact on the merciless world around us, shall we? I know you and your cats have been fighting with the Beach Dwellers and for prey and a place to stay for a while. You’re close to being chased out, despite the fact your group has been here for more than a century. Do you and your cats want to be wiped out by some newcomers?”

Ragtag lifted a brow, studying the cat’s stony face. Dry looked down at zir own pelt, cringing at the ribs poking out for dryad’s flanks. The scars haven’t fared any better, the deadly battle with the Desert cats still fresh in wyr mind. Zir cats were in imminent danger of being wiped from existence. Grandfather Sprout wouldn’t allow it, so Ragtag wouldn’t either.

"Sounds interesting, stranger. Fine, I can solidify our deal, you can tell your master that the Ragtags are zhir allies. Me and my cats are willing to help you lot in exchange for our safety. Slip this up however, and the deal's off between us and the Tamed."

Dandy-do let out a velvety purr. “It’s a deal then. Thank you for your understanding.” With that, she vanished into the night.

Cat Name: Otterdive
Gender: Tom
Rank: Multiduty [Main Fisher/Guard/Gladiator]
Clan: OceanClan
Prompt: A bundle of moss hung from the large tom's jaws, dripping water onto the dry, warm sand. It crunched under paw as the Warrior made his way through a busy crowd of cats- a border patrol, just returning with fresh news from the Ashen Trails and reporting the details to Tansystar, Thrushslip sitting at her side calmly for support. The older she-cat looked clearly distressed as she absorbed the information. Politely nudging past a few stragglers in the group, Otterdive set the moss down as he had begun to hear the news.

"... a wandering she-cat. Black and white, wearing flowers, seemed calm enough. She was accompanied by another she-cat similar in appearance- she claims her to be her sister and littermate. No known affiliation with the Ashen Trails, Anala, or any of her goons. So she says, at least." A stoic, stern tom by the name of Puddlefern was reporting curtly, finishing with a polite nod and stepping back. Two guards stood on either side of him, pitching in a piece of information as he caught the leader and her council up on the pair of cats. "I left Acornnick and Rosetta with them as we speak. I can call reinforcements if-" Tansystar shook her head lightly, "That won't be necessary." Turning her gaze to the group of gathered OceanClanners, she blinked slowly, looking through the faces of the gathered cats.

"Otterdive, could I borrow you for a moment?" Surprised at his new name's mention, he stepped forward, and the others, including Puddlefern, began to disperse. "Yes, ma'am. What may I help with?" Otterdive spoke in a friendly, polite tone. Tansystar flicked her tail to the left towards the sandy forest and beyond, "Please see to it these outsiders are brought safely to me. Absolutely no claws, okay?" Tansystar seemed distracted; Thrushslip comforted beside her and nuzzled his mate's shoulder. Otterdive dipped his head and headed towards the woods, eager to take this chance to show his new leader his dedication. Lately, it seemed as if OceanClan's everyday interactions with Outsiders had been strained- definitely due to the aggression of the Ashen Trails. Unfortunately, when Otterdive arrived to request a place in the clan, he was met with a variety of weary or harsh voices ready to turn the stranger away- Tansystar looked past these concerns and offered him a place. Only two moons ago, he was a loner looking for a purpose, a group he could run with for the remainder of his life despite his reasonably young age. Now, he had that and was ready to show his loyalty to their ways of life- even though she seemed okay with the new addition, Tansystar's existing cats didn't all agree with his presence among them. He was often met with jeers or silly comments, nonetheless unappreciated by the sturdy, hard-working tom.

---

Leaves crunches beneath his paws, cool to the touch. The river could be heard past the dying, brown ferns and tall trees surrounded him on both sides. He trotted towards the border, slowing his run so that he wouldn't startle the cats waiting with the strangers or the strangers themselves. The she-cats described before stood on the other side of the shallow river, speaking quietly with their guards- Acornnick and Rosetta. The taller of the black and white she-cats perked at the sight of him and said something to their guards, alerting them of his appearance. Rosetta and Acornnick turned and crossed the river with the pair of outsiders. Despite their compliance and Rosetta's calm look, Acornnick's tail was lashing, and his hackles were raised. He stomped past the trio of she-cats towards Otterdive, ready to argue.

A harsher voice and an even sharper tongue growled, "Why are we letting them across? Why are you even here right now? Where's Tansystar and the council?" Otterdive drew in a deep, relaxed breath. Acornnick was famous for stirring trouble and made himself mainly known at Otterdive's welcoming ceremony- that wasn't enjoyable. He hadn't quickly forgotten the young tom's outrage at his welcome. "I was sent by our leader to bring you all back to camp for a discussion. The mottled she-cat swapped a curious look, most likely referring to the strangely aggressive nature of the tawny tom. Turning back to the others and cutting Acornnick off before he could chew him out further, he dipped his head in welcome. "Welcome to OceanClan territory. I'm sorry for the wait. If you're alright with that, these two warriors will lead you back to camp?" Both newcomers simply nodded and dipped their heads politely in return. Looking irritated at Acornnick's unnecessary outburst, Rosetta flicked her ear and led the sisters away from the river and past both toms deeper into the forest. After they left earshot, Acornnick leaned closer to Otterdive and snarled, "This isn't over." Before darting off to catch up with the others, he cast one more look over his tortoiseshell shoulder.

Rolling his eyes irritatedly, Otterdive slowly trailed behind them, wondering what this cat had planned and why on earth Otterdive had to deal with him.

Cat Name: Martin Mouseheart
Gender: Male
Rank: Warrior
Clan: In The Wake Of Giants
Prompt:
"-and if we modify that insect-killing powder Junebug uses on her flowers, it should do pretty much what you're after! Except it might dye your fur green. But I think you'd look nice with green fur! And I'd need to work on the whole... toxcicity problem. We want to kill crawly things, not cats. I wonder if-"

Martin was starting to regret ever bringing his problem to Flashbang.

Scratch that. He was starting to regret coming to the Wake at all. Back in the big city life had been handed to him on a silver platter. The bent old woman who cared for him had always gone to great lengths to ensure he was warm, fed, and comfortable. The food might not have been particularly good, mind, but there was plenty of it, and it appeared at regular intervals without him having to lift a claw. All he had to do in exchange was wind around bookstore patrons' ankles and hunt down the occasional mouse.

The Wake was a rather less indulgent mistress. There were no can openers out here, no fluffy blankets, none of the myriad comforts he'd grown accustomed to. Of more pressing concern was the lack of flea treatment. Martin's luxurious coat had somehow become infested with a legion of tiny, hopping things. No amount of vigorous grooming had deterred them. After the third sleepless night he'd finally broken down and turned to an unlikely source for help.

"-and then we could douse the whole clan all at once! We'd have to get Chip and Flicker on board, or maybe set up some sort of dispersal device that hangs over the camp? Either way, if we get the powder airborne, it would make it a lot easier, but then we'd have to worry about getting the concentration right-"

"Flashbang!" Martin nearly had to yell to make himself heard over the torrent of stream-of-consciousness rambling. "Please, take a breath!"

The violently orange inventor stopped mid-syllable and did as instructed. Martin just wished he looked a bit less wounded while doing so.

"Thank you." He took a slow breath as well, exhaling it as a sigh. "As I was saying... our esteemed healers believe they have a solution ready to paw! A combination of powdered stone and herbal soaks, if I understood correctly? The problem is, ah, my fur."

"Your fur?" Flashbang blinked rapidly, not entirely sure how to react to that. Too much fluff wasn't the sort of problem that could be solved with his preferred brand of... applied overenthusiasm.

"Apparently there is rather too much of it." Martin cleared his throat sheepishly. "I was hoping you might have some sort of tool to make the experience of... losing most of my coat less miserable."

"Oh. So you need choppy-thingies?" Flashbang blinked rapidly, visibly redirecting his train of thought. "Well why didn't you say that to start with?!"

Martin couldn't help himself: he boomed a laugh so loud it startled nearby birds into flight.

"My dear boy," He wheezed between peals of laughter, "I tried my very best! But I fear you heard the word 'fleas' and took leave of your senses!"

Flashbang covered his face with a paw and tried his best to become one with the dirt.

"Right. I knew that. Look, can we just- try this whole thing over again, without me sticking my paw halfway down my gullet?"

Still chortling, Martin waved him on, too amused to be annoyed.

"Hi, I'm Flashbang! I heard you're looking for some snippers! I know just where to find some!"

Off they trotted in search of scissors, all awkwardness forgotten in a twinkling. There were more interesting things to consider- things like unleashing unholy terror on all things remotely flea-shaped.
Be the nonsense you wish to see in the world.

Cat Name: Claude
Gender: Male
Rank: Gatherer
Clan: Galaxy Stables
Prompt:

Claude was a poet at heart. As he scratched away his ideas of what to say to his crush, he thought of how things could go. Mama had always said the way to a girl's heart was through honest feelings. He imagined how she would get a small smile on her face and accept his heartfelt feelings. Oh.. He could get lost in those eyes...

"Get it together Claude," he muttered to himself. Breaking out of his daydream, he read over what he had.

'You are a beautiful flower, and I am but a clod of dirt.
Ever here to support you in your endeavor for the sunlight
May it's brilliance always shine upon you'

"Hmm.. Is this too much of a pun instead of a poem..? I feel there should be more.. But what?" Claude wondered as he stared at his work. Oh why was it so hard to find words when thinking of the one that had his heart? "Well, there's nothing to be done but to just do it." And with that, Claude set out to find her.

Seeing her sitting near a tree watching a small butterfly flutter around, he approached nervously. 'Oh goodness.. words.. She's so pretty.. what did I have again..?' he thought in his approach. When she turned to him, he stuttered as their eyes caught.
"I..um.. I'm a flower and your a clod of dirt.." Claude paused thinking 'wait, that wasn't right..!" He then noticed as her eyes widened and she let out a small gasp. Shaking her head, she quickly left with Claude calling out "Wait! I didn't mean..!" But it was too late, she was gone. "Oh no..! What am I going to do..?!" Claude nervously clawed the ground casting his eyes about trying to think.

"Okay, I'll let her calm a little so she'll hear me out. ..hopefully." Claude sighed as he slowly wandered back to his den.

A little while later, as the sun was setting Claude set out to talk to his dear-heart again. Upon finding her, she gave him a wary look and started to turn away. "Wait! I've come to apologize!" Claude quickly said. She pawsed and sat quietly to let him speak.
Claude took a deep breath. 'Honest feelings, like Mama said..' he thought. Looking her again in the eye he said, "I'm sorry. What I said earlier wasn't true. I had written out a poem for you, and your beauty caught me off guard again and my thoughts got all scrambled. May I have the opportunity to try again?" She watched him a moment, not a thought given away on her face. She opened her mouth to give her answer and Claude took a breath in anticipation. 'What will she say..?' he thought.

Cat Name: Pelican
Gender: male
Rank: tbd (warrior/kitsitter)
Clan: SecludedGlade
Prompt:
This cat spent the first couple years living in a sort of commune. Not quite feral, not quite kittypets, it was a friendly community of outdoor cats that got food and attention from the twolegs but didn’t belong to any single home. The cats had plenty of food and didn’t have to worry about resources. Some things happened (a story for another time) and Pelican found himself looking for a new home. He had heard rumors of wilder cats. He was tired of his old life and wanted something completely different. So, he took off in search of a wild clan that would accept him.

Honestly it’s shocking he survived as long as he did. His new clan found him starving and matted but still full of life and determination. After a few months of a trial period, he was starting to be more fully integrated into the clan. He was included in activities and began receiving assignments. But a few issues began to pop up that made Pelican worry he was out of place.

The first issue was around food. He saw the other cats eating so he didn’t think twice about walking over as soon as fresh kill was brought back to grab some for himself. It took a few times for him to notice the glares and hear the phrase “the audacity”. He was confused. There was food, he grabbed some. Just like at the colony, food appeared every day and he ate it. He arrived at the clan during the season of plenty and did not yet understand all the work that went into catching food. He didn't know food went to elders, the sick, and those nursing first, then hunters and warriors working to obtain the food, and then anyone else.

After dinner he saw cats sharing tongues, just like at his old home, he thought nothing of walking over to a group, plopping down, and immediately licking a cat. He noticed them stiffen and shift and pin their ears. He didn’t think he had bad breath or anything so why would they be offended? He didn’t know the clan had a tradition where permission was extended or asked for first, especially the first time with a new cat.

The third biggest issue was when he was finally allowed to join a patrol. As soon as the party set out, Pelican started chatting. He asked questions and told stories from his youth. He noticed he was getting some glares and that the other cats weren’t engaging in his stories. They would give an abrupt answer if asked a direct question but otherwise they stared straight ahead. For Pelican, in the past, walks were a time to catch up with each other and check in. There were no real dangers in the neighborhood and it was a time to check in with each other. He didn’t fully understand both the purpose or the dangers of a patrol.

Luckily PeakingStripe eventually realized there were some cultural differences that needed to be explained. He sat down with Pelican and went over some of the things that were causing tension with the clan. First, he explained how prey was a finite resource and there wasn’t always enough to go around. They had to prioritize an eating order and fair shares both to make sure everyone got something and to avoid fights in lean times. Next, sharing tongues was a close and vulnerable activity that cats did with those they trusted and were close to. It was important to get consent before touching anybody, especially when Pelican was still so new to the clan he still smelled like a rogue. Lastly Peaking went into detail about patrols because it obviously hadn't been explained well enough before. He explained that silence wasn’t required and chatting happened from time to time, however most of the patrol was spent in silence. It’s critical to be able to hear your environment and not be distracted when you’re looking out for all kinds of things that could cause you harm.

When he was done going over everything Pelican felt embarrassed but also relieved. Obviously, he hadn't meant to commit so many faux pas but he was happy to have an explanation. Now everyone’s behaviors towards him made sense. He understood why the other cats seemed to get frustrated or offended seemingly out of the blue. PeakingStripe also spoke to others in the clan to give them Pelican’s perspective. Everyone else realized they had been treating him like a born clan cat rather than someone who was new to everything. After that, it didn't take long the friction to ease and for Pelican to truly start to fit in and feel like he belonged.
