favorite food: Waves would have to say their favorite food is trout, well more specifically Steelhead and especially during spawning season when they are full of nutrient rich roe- which they are more than happy to share with their fellow tribe mates; not only do they enjoy the roe but they also love the oily skin and flaky, tender meat that leaves a mild yet savory sweet taste in their mouth, conjuring up memories of when they were in the Nursery and their mother would bring them their meal and preen their feathers; so to Waves eating Steelhead brings them a sense of peace and comfort like when they were younger, making it their favorite meal of all time.

cat’s name: Glisten
archive link: The Ivory Oasis
favorite food:
Out of all the foods Glisten has had, from when he was still living deep within the forest, to when he got together with Globe, and moved into the desert with him, there's always been one little snack that stood out to Glisten. One food that Glisten always goes crazy over, whenever he manages to find it himself on trips outside of the desert, or on the occasion where Globe returns with it for him.

    Raspberries.

Whether picked straight from a shrub, put into pastries, or dried to last longer in the hot climate, Glisten has always been in love with the taste of raspberries. The tartness sitting just right on his tongue, as well as the small size, perfect for being stored for later. Being able to store and preserve the red fruit is quite useful, as well, when it's too hot out to go hunting, where Glisten has to stay in the shade, alternatively, if decided to go outside anyways, hang out in the cool waters of the oasis, so Glisten has a nice, little source of food to go to if there isn't much else at the time.

It might just be the nostalgia, as well. The memory of being taken out and about by his grandfather, being taught about what can be eaten safely, and what would kill, or what requires a specific procedure in order to be eaten in the first place. Finishing off the lessons, by being taken to the garden his grandfather grew, and being allowed to nibble on some of what grew, as a snack. Though, of course, Glisten always went straight to the plant, where the lumpy, little red raspberries grew.

favorite food: Azul loves to sneak over near the boardwalk the humans use just after sunset when most of them are gone in search of some forgotten Blue Moon ice cream. The mysterious chilly sweet snack has always captivated him, it tasted like nothing he ever encountered before. Vaguely fruity, slightly almond-y, but nothing he could 100% pin down. He's tried to convince others to come indulge in his favorite snack, but they're all either too afraid of getting caught or think its some kind of poison being planted by the humans. Maybe one day he'll get someone else hooked on it, but for now it just means he can gorge on it all by himself.

cat’s name: Geode

favorite food:

Geode's favourite food?

Ah yes, Geode and his honey. There is no other guardian as enthusiastic about honey as Geode is. Ask him about honey, and he’ll flick his tail, play off the excitement bubbling inn his chest with a slow, knowing blink that says, 'Ah, now that’s a proper question.' He could go on and on about the poetry that honey creates. And he will, with quite a lot of excitement, if you ask.

Why honey though? He could have his pick of anything. Fresh fish from the ocean is certainly always tempting. But Geode would argue that nothing compares to the golden, sunlit perfection that is honey. For Geode, it is much more than just something sweet. It’s the taste of golden afternoons spent soaring over meadows, the hum of bees as they work tirelessly to create something magical. Magical is exactly the word that Geode uses to describe honey. And that first taste? Oh, it’s everything. Thick, smooth, rich with the essence of wildflowers and sunshine. It’s not just food, it’s warmth, it’s the reward for a quiet moment well spent. Geode doesn’t just love the taste, it’s the whole experience.

So, why is honey his favourite? For Geode, honey isn’t just something you eat. It’s something you savour. Honey is sweet but never ordinary, simple but never plain. It reminds him that some things in life are worth waiting for.

    cat’s name: Basil Ray

    favorite food:

Basil loves some good ol' garlic. Not raw or by itself, of course, but whenever he's asked about his favorite food, garlic always makes the list—even if the base food changes. It’s the warm, savory punch it adds that he can’t get enough of, a flavor that feels like home, no matter the dish.

One of his favorites, though, has been his father’s signature dish that he first cooked for Basil’s 10th birthday. He calls it Lemon Delight, a name that’s stuck around despite its quirks. It’s a tradition now, something Basil looks forward to every year, a little piece of his father’s creativity plated just for him.

Now, his father knew he’d given his son Basil plenty of dishes with basil in them over the years—pasta with fresh leaves, roasted vegetables sprinkled with the herb, even a basil-infused soup once—but recently, he’d realized it wasn’t the basil that lit up Basil’s eyes: it was the garlic. That rich, aromatic bite had been the real star all along. So, for Basil’s 10th birthday, his father decided to go all out.

He started with a whole chicken, plump and golden, roasted to perfection. He’d dreamed up a lemon and garlic cream sauce to drizzle over it, studded with caramelized shallots for a touch of sweetness. The kitchen filled with the mouthwatering scent of garlic sizzling in butter, with a tang of lemon cutting through the air. It was going to be a masterpiece, a dish to mark the milestone of double digits. Without warning, a spark from the stove caught a dish towel, and in seconds, flames licked up the counter. His father scrambled, dousing the fire with a pot lid and a string of muttered curses, but the damage was done. The chicken was a charred ruin; and the sauce? a smoky mess. Basil—playing and flying outside without a care in the world—didn’t hear a thing, much to his father's relief.

His father stared back at the wreckage, heart sinking. The birthday dinner was in ashes, and time was ticking. He rummaged through the fridge until he found their singular leftover slab of white fish—cod, probably, though it wasn’t labeled. It wasn’t much, but it would have to do. He grabbed the last of the lemons, a handful of parsley from the windowsill pot, and, of course, a generous pile of garlic cloves, which thankfully, he had bought more than he needed for the chicken dish. No shallots, no cream, and no chicken was left—so he went with just the basics. The fish went into a hot pan, sizzling with butter and garlic, while he squeezed lemon juice over it, letting the flavors meld. A sprinkle of parsley at the end, and it was done—a simple dish, but fragrant and golden nonetheless.

His father plated the dish and went outside to where Basil was playing, oblivious to the chaos that had unfolded minutes before. He called his son over, who laughed at the name of the dish his father announced: “Lemon Delight.”

“It sounds much more like a dessert than a dinner,” Basil teased, his grin wide and unguarded. His father chuckled in response, a little sheepishly—as it was the only name he could come up with after the secret fiasco earlier—but the young cat’s words sparked an idea. With a playful glint in his eye, he went back inside and quickly grabbed a candle from their drawer (the kind meant for birthday cakes) and plopped it right in the middle of the fish dish. “There,” he said, lighting it with a match, “now you can have a taste.”

Basil blew out the candle, the tiny flame flickering out with a puff of smoke, and dug in. The first bite hit him like a rogue wave—the tender fish flaking apart, the garlic warm and bold, the lemon bright and sharp against the buttery richness. It wasn’t fancy, not like the chicken would’ve been, but it was perfect. The flavors danced on his tongue, simple yet unforgettable, and he looked up at his father with wide, awestruck eyes. After he swallowed, he set his plate down and declared, “I want to be as great a cook as you are.”

His father blinked, caught off guard. Then a slow, proud spread across his face. “Well,” he said, leaning back against the hut, “you’ve got plenty of time to practice. But you’ve got to promise me one thing.” Basil tilted his head, curious. His father winked in response, “Always keep garlic in the kitchen.”
