story:
He felt himself sink as the end melted like tears from his eyes. Light dappling through the water, its warmth gently tapping his head, was his last tendril of hope and he did not cling to it. Even if he were to make it to the surface with his tired, beaten body they would send him back down. As he accepted his fate, colors tickled his nose and he opened his eyes. A melody simple and soft danced in his ears, cool and refreshing as the water itself. A blurry figure rose from the depths, a lovely shade of maroon sparkling below him. He was no longer sinking but he did not rise either. Water curled into his fur, passing by his head with a friendly whooshing chant that caused dripping pink before him. His lungs nearly emptied, he slipped into sleep, comforted by the creature that pulled him.
He woke later in a cave, moonlight slipping on his wet frame. His head rose slowly, the sound of sand falling from his neck jumping up in lovely yellow spikes. He looked about and saw her in the back of the sea cave. A creature from myth, he identified her as a child of the sea, rarely seen, hardly known. In that dark night she whispered words of comfort with a voice that only knew song. In gratitude he delivered his own words, urged on by her. He told her of his adventures rescuing the lost and forgotten, dodging their hunters until he no longer could. Night came to day and she slipped back into the waves, leaving the color of the sea’s sigh - a color as vibrant and friendly as her. He soon would rise with the sun. She had given him a second chance. He was going back.
