springfleet are group animals that move in herds and can live in nearly any biome. they are herbivorous and enjoy grasses, berries, nectar, bark, vegetables, and fruit. they have large canine teeth in the front, which help them bite into fruits and other thicker plants, and blunt teeth in the back to allow them to grind grasses. they also have bony protrusions in their skull which protect their canines and give them a distinctive "false tooth" appearance. males have a longer false tooth than females, but each gender can occasionally sport the opposing tooth length.
the false tooth is not an actual tooth but is bone and a part of the skull - the canine lies just underneath it. similarly to snakes, springfleet can retract their canines when not in active use. for example, when going to bite an apple or gnaw on bark a springfleet would use its false teeth rather than its canines, so the canines would stay retracted in the skull. this keeps the canines sharp and ensures they stay protected against tougher material. when defending themselves or fighting, the canine teeth will descend past the false teeth to allow for a powerful bite. since males typically have larger canines than females, they also sport larger false teeth. this said, it is uncommon but possible for false tooth sizes to be inverted, meaning males have short ones and females have large ones.
springfleet have a similar ambulatory style to antelope - when running they will leap into the air between strides. their feet are a strange mix of canine and caprine, of paws and hooves. like a canine springfleet have five toes on their front feet and four toes on their hind feet, but each toe ends in a keratinous claw similar to that of a goat. springfleet do have a central, very large and puffy paw pad that helps them balance, as they essentially walk on their tiptoes. this paw pad also helps absorb impact when landing, protecting their joints from wear over time.
springfleet hind legs are noticeably larger than their front legs. their hind legs are extremely muscular and powerful, and enable them to jump distances of nearly 40 feet horizontally and 10 feet vertically.
springfleet come in all colors and patterns.
