Fable #82 - closed

Postby bezel » Mon Jan 20, 2025 1:31 pm

    owner: ♔Voltaire♔
    name: Liara

This fable is spending the night visiting a little market, tucked away in a peaceful hollow. Bustling stalls offering wares of all kinds line the winding cobblestone road and the stars twinkle above. So many options, but they only have room in their bag to bring a few things home...

    🌿 The Herbarium
A weathered stand piled high with bundles of unfamiliar dried plants and jars with worn labels.
    🗺️ Cliff's Curiosities
A small cart overflowing with strange items of all kinds; books with no titles, peculiar dolls, trinkets from places unheard of.
    🕰️ Oldwood Antiques
A disorganized collection of forgotten relics. Each item seems to have its own story to tell.
    ⚗️ Haven's Remedies
An apothecary stand filled with unlabeled bottles of all shapes and sizes. They claim to have the perfect brew for any ailment.
    💍 Silverthorn Charms
A stand with a wide assortment of glimmering jewelry. A few pieces hum with an otherworldly energy.
    🧣 Moth's Loom
A cart draped with fabrics, blankets, and scarves of every pattern and hue that shimmer and shift colors under the light.

fable name:
Sellue

market haul

From the Moth's Loom....
A silvery fabric caught her eye, with delicate, lacey flowers strewn almost thoughtlessly throughout. It reminded her of her sister's garden, before she faded away. It will make a stunning veil.

From Cliff's Curiosities....
A map of a country that might not exist, hand-drawn with gorgeous illustrations of twisting gold dragons and shimmering capitals. Her fiancé will adore it.

From Haven's Remedies....
The tonic looked as dull as always in its green glass phial. She knows she needs it to treat the fading, but it's a considerable purchase. Haven smiles, just like the tonic, he is cloyingly sweet.

From Oldwood Antiques....
A crown was hidden on an overflowing table beneath two fur throws. No gems stud its platinum exterior, but the points looked like flower petals, and inscribed painstakingly upon its surface are swirling etchings that make it look almost alive. Something in her cannot stand to pass it by. The shopkeeper barely glanced up from his painting before motioning for her to leave. "No charge." He mumbled around his pipe.

fable name: Bard

market haul:

Haven's Remedies ⚗️: Bard runs his fingers gently over the worn label. He couldn't make out the printed words, even if he had a magnifying glass. The mysterious old woman running the shop assured him this would do the trick to rid the receiver of terrible curses. He sniffed the contents and reeled back, making a sour face. It smelled as if all the fish in the ocean had been left rotting for months. He asked for a cork and told himself to remind Victory to plug his nose while applying.

Bound and Woven 📝: A delighted feeling roused in Bard's chest as he approached a kind older man who was busy at work stamping a custom brand into a soft leather journal face. His small store smelled wonderful, freshly made blank pages hung with twine from the ceiling to dry. Bard was approached by the owner and they chatted for a few minutes before they exchanged goods. He tucked the empty journal made for sketching and the bundle of charcoal pencils in his jacket pocket. He was fairly certain he is the only one who has caught the new surgeon aboard practicing anatomy in his spare time.

Cliff's Curiosities 🗺️ : For some reason, this cart made Bard nervous. He felt as though he was being watched, which was ridiculous but that did not stop him from looking over his shoulder several times. He shyly asked the pair, a married couple he presumed, if he would be able to build a glass jar of several smaller trinkets. They agreed, so he scooped various cogs, screws, and broken parts for watches and contraptions he could never fathom existing into his container. This gift was for Arthur, the thought of giving it to him making his heart thump out of rhythm. Surely the smart and handy boy could find some use in this practical present.

fable name: Sitheag
market haul:

a skein of soft yarn in swirling brown and white. The shopkeeper proudly notes that it's spun from their own fur, hand-stripped from their coat this past spring. It costs a small fortune, there isn't much, and what is there is fairly delicate, but it clearly has a lot of care put into it. It will hold the memories of this market and the kind merchant long after the night has passed, and Sitheag cherishes that.

a small glass bottle filled with translucent green liquid, narrow and hooked, somewhat like a pepper in shape. Uncorking it to take a sniff reveals a sharp, metallic scent. It smells horrible, but it does clear Sitheag's mind, and the tiny thing doesn't cost much anyway. She just has to be careful not to lose it, or worse, spill its contents all over her bag!

a flat tin of fragrant wax, etched with a simple design of a cloud and moon. Wing wax, the merchant selling it proclaims, to repel rain and keep feathers and leather alike from drying out or becoming bitten by windchill in flight or glide. They falter a bit when they see Sitheag, apparently unsure what to make of her. She tries not to laugh, and notes that while she can't fly, her wings do become brittle sometimes, so she might as well try it.

a perfectly round, mottled white and grey stone. It smells like old wood and anise and gives off a faint glow, akin to moonlight. For some reason, it seems to cheer Sitheag up. She's happy to part with a bit of coin to take it home.

        fable name: dela
        market haul:

        the first thing to catch her eye was a wind chime hanging off of cliff's curios cart;
strange crystals, bells and beads twisted in the air and refracted the stars and lantern lights.
it's soft sounds made her feel nostalgic for... something, so she had to bring it home with her.

next, and the whole reason for coming to this market, she heads to haven's remedies, where she searches high and low
for an herbal balm for her aging badger friend, karasi. karasi is a crabby old witch who loves halloween. she'd never admit it, but her bones creak and crack, so dela is sure she can find something to ease the old lady's aches and pains here.

her last stop is at moth's loom, where she finds a small linen hankerchief with beautiful
silver embroidery and delicate lacing in the pattern of butterfly wings on the corners.
perhaps a bit self-indulgent, but she purchases the fabric trinket with haste.

finally, while she's leaving, she spots an unnamed cart selling spell books and tomes; worn leather bags
bursting with tattered scrolls and parchment with hasty scribbles hang from every corner. dela finds herself questioning
the authenticity of some of the "spells" being sold by the little kitsune manning the cart, but then she spots what she was hoping to find: a grimoire, it's pages bound by spidersilk and cover encrusted with silver.

fable name: Thorn
market haul:

antique, hand crafted violin in a soft, carved leather case:
the strings of the violin are loose, the first string broken in two from being held stiff for too long, and the bridge is worn through years of play, but to Thorn, this violin held sentimental value. a few years prior, Thorn's grandfather had sold his old violin in order to pay for his daughter's medical bills. Thorn is intent on buying the instrument back so that she can her her grandfather play once more; he still have callouses on his fingers from years of practice, and Thorn still misses the sound of her favourite lullaby that he'd play whenever he'd visit.

violin strings from the music store:
with the shape the violin strings are in, Thorn must buy a new set to replace them. she is going to string the violin before gifting it back to her grandfather, so that it's ready to play.

fable name: Navi
market haul:

hand-carved wooden statue: an old worn down statue in the shape of what looks to be a fable. underneath the base of the statue there appears to be initials carved into it, likely by its creator who has been long gone.

tarnished necklace: once a fine piece of jewelry likely worn for the most elegant of events. now it just sits in a dusted over glass container, hoping someone will come by and claim it as theirs once again. perhaps the necklace could be restored to it's former glory if given the right home?

raggedy old blanket: it has loose stitching and a few holes. it looks to be long past its expiration date but it seems someone thought otherwise. after all, there is the saying that one man's trash is another man's treasure. it could definitely be patched up if given the chance.

old chalice: a dusty old chalice sitting in a cabinet with other various glasses and cups. who would think to get rid of such a phenomenal piece crawling with so much history?
